Brandon Jennings Is a Class Act

Brandon Jennings (Dime #46)

When I spoke with Brandon Jennings for the cover of Dime #46, he made no qualms about his intentions in going to Italy. He wanted to be there for one year to gain some valuable experience to come back as a better prospect and a better pro in the future.

But Jennings officially proved to be much more than a semi-permanent tourist when he donated $50,000 to assist the victims of families who perished in the terrible earthquakes that have recently rocked the country. Read More »

Phil Jackson Would Choose Dwight Over LeBron

LeBron James, Dime #47

Normally I’m reverent about everything that Phil Jackson has to say about basketball. (His Eastern philosophy is a whole other story.) But on the Dan Patrick show, the Zen Master said that if he were building a team from scratch, he would pick Dwight Howard over LeBron James, Dwyane Wade or Chris Paul. Can’t say I agree with him this time. Read More »

Please Welcome Isiah Thompson??

Florida International University

Really, FIU Provost Ronald Berkman? Really?? You make the biggest hire in your school’s history, bringing in a guy who has a TON of personal and professional baggage and has raised red flags everywhere – a hire that you would think would have required you to be in several meetings discussing whether or not this was a smart move for your school and you can’t even get his name right? Kenyon Martin Responds to Joe Maloof

martin_17_01

Kenyon Martin isn’t above committing a dirty foul. And if he does so, know this: he isn’t going to apologize. So when he approached Spencer Hawes after the game to say that he was sorry, Martin was also clearing the record that he didn’t mean to hurt him.

So Joe Maloof can go shove it with his talk of K-Mart’s foul being ‘thuggery.’ Read More »

Kenyon Martin “Raining Down the Love!”

Shout to Smack reader Alf – this might be one of my favorite calls of the year:

“Oh!! Tomahawk follow! (Def?) Jam! Kenyon Martin raining down the love! Wow!”

After K-Mart spiked this cram through, I’d imagine that the ESPN broadcast booth looked like a bunch of guys with bitter beer face.

Finally, it’s playoff time

Tim Duncan

Last night you saw reasons A-thru-Z why — even with Manu Ginobili out of the picture — nobody wants to draw the Spurs early in the playoffs: Tim Duncan. Needing a win over New Orleans to secure the 3rd seed in the West and win another division title (a loss could have dropped them to 5th place), Duncan turned into the bad guy from No Country For Old Men in overtime.
