Kendrick Perkins: The Refs Don’t Like Us

Kendrick Perkins

Kendrick Perkins has figured out how to turn yesterday’s biggest non-story into an issue. Yesterday, some excuse-making Celtic fans spread word that two of the refs from Game 4 in Chicago were both Chicago natives. And get this, their families left the game wearing Chicago Bulls gear! Holy crap. If that’s the case, David Stern should probably investigate before we’ve got another Tim Donaghy scandal on our hands. NOT.

These conspiracy theorists now have more fuel in their fire thanks to Perkins because of his comments after practice yesterday. Read More »

Paul Millsap Scares the Lakers

Paul Millsap

When the Lakers went up 80-58 last night, I flipped the game off. (That scene from the Italian Job when Charlize Theron is infiltrating Edward Norton‘s compound for the first time was on. She’s fantastic.) But when I turned back to TNT, it was an 11-point game, then a two possession game only a couple of minutes later. During that stretch, it was Paul Millsap – not Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer or Andrei Kirilenko – who single-handedly put a scare into the Lakers. Read More »

Barack Obama Will Light You Up

President Barack Obama

We’re not sure if President Obama felt the pressure to go above and beyond for the UConn Women’s National Championship squad on their official trip to the White House in order to make up for the most ridiculous story of the year, but this is still cool as hell: Read More »

Does Chris Paul no longer trust his teammates?

Chris Paul (photo. Chad Griffith)

Of all the droopy-faced answers Chris Paul and Byron Scott gave trying to explain how the Hornets got devoured by 58 points last night, one in particular stood out to me. Asked how N.O. would possibly bounce back in an elimination Game 5 on the road, Paul said: Read More »

Joe Johnson is “good, not great”

Joe Johnson

That was according to Charles Barkley, leading up to yesterday’s Hawks/Heat game. Recapping Joe Johnson‘s subpar showing in the series’ first three games, Barkley blurted out, “He can’t be the best player on a team.” As Kenny Smith was fixing his mouth for a nice way to ask Chuck, “The hell are you talking about?” Barkley clarified that he thinks J.J. is better suited as a complimentary player (like he was in Phoenix) rather than a franchise guy. While you can win with guys like Joe on your roster, you’re not gonna win if he’s The Guy. Read More »

The Kobayashi Game

Carmelo Anthony (photo. Mannion)

It was tough to come up with a name for what the Nuggets did to the Hornets last night. The Oz and “Ivan Drago vs. Apollo Creed” references worked for the mere 20-piecings of Games 1 and 2, but last night? The Nuggets damn near won by SIXTY, 121-63, setting an NBA playoff record for margin of victory. Call it the Kobayashi Game: Chauncey and Carmelo and crew ate up the Hornets like Takeru Kobayashi plows through 50 and 60 hot dogs, kind of gross to watch but so fascinating you can’t look away … Read More »

This Is Just a Little Bit Unfair

Chauncey/AI

If it wasn’t enough that Pistons fans weren’t showing up to the Palace despite $11 tickets, or that they showed absolutely zero heart in getting swept by the Cavs, the ESPN/ABC empire decided to post this graphic during their NBA coverage this weekend.

Seriously? It’s like they had a meeting to figure out how to make Allen Iverson look worse and this was some executive’s brainchild.

End of the road for Rasheed

Rasheed Wallace

One play defined exactly why I’ve never understood some people’s love affair with Rasheed Wallace. In the second half of yesterday’s Cavs/Pistons game, with Detroit down by 15 and five minutes away from getting swept out of the first round, LeBron had Will Bynum posted up on the elbow. Easily spinning off Bynum, ‘Bron attacked the rim with a punctuation mark on his mind, and ‘Sheed was the only man standing in his way. Read More »

The Pistons Should Be Embarrassed

I’m not sure whether it’s fair to be critical of Detroit or not right now. On one hand, you’re looking at a team that was showing such little effort in games one and two against Cleveland that fans in the cash-strapped Detroit area wouldn’t dish out $11 for tickets to a playoff game at the Palace. You’re looking at a team that was resigned to getting swept before this series started.
