For the first time all year, I’m siding with Chris Webber over Kenny Smith. Though I’m not really sure what C-Webb’s argument is – except for the whole thing about Orlando not playing like a No. 3 seed – I like his borderline out-of-control fire.
Headed into the playoffs we pinpointedMichael Beasley as the most important rookie of the playoffs, figuring that he has the power to swing the series in Miami’s favor if he plays up to his potential. B-Easy tried to establish himself early and often, but only ended up contributing to the blowout, as he shot 5-15 from the field.
All this time we’ve been arguing Chris Paul vs. Deron Williams vs. Tony Parker for Best Point Guard in the League, and no one ever seems to remember Chauncey Billups. It makes sense; all Smooth does is bang home threes, dole out forearm bruises, win more games than almost anyone at his position, cash those playoff bonuses and go home. It’s all cyclical, really. A few years ago when Shaq was on top of the NBA world, he christened Paul Pierce with the nickname that’s stuck ever since. Now with Pierce sitting on top (reigning Finals MVP and all), he could/should have told the world yesterday: Derrick Rose is the muthaf***in’ TRUTH. In those two long, slow days between the end of the regular season and the start of the NBA playoffs — as well as the actual off-days during the playoffs — there’s really nothing left to do but get injured or let some “bulletin-board material” slip out of your mouth. So far there hasn’t been much going on injury-wise beyond the Kevin Garnett news, and no smack talk other than a couple of Sixers admitting Orlando would be “easier” to go through than Boston.
