Who Do You Blame?
Rasual Butler got a wide open look from three to down the Kings coming out of a timeout. Somebody deserves to be blamed. Is it Francisco Garcia for not fighting through a screen and getting out on Butler? Is it Andres Nocioni for not switching to Butler quickly enough? Or is it Kenny Natt’s fault for not making sure that his guys knew exactly what to do in this situation?

Ultimately it is the coach’s fault. It is his job to make sure the players are prepared for those situations. Kenny Natt has been an assistant to some great head coaches, but I think he is still learning. The players do share some of the blame for not fighting through screens or switching fast enough. Those are things that should come preprogrammed through their years of playing organized basketball.

It looks like Noce is pretty dejected in the background. He may have been late on the switch…

Kudabeen says:
On a better team I would think Martin would have been aware and slid off the inbounder to the Butler. If the ball went back to the inbounder (typical) Garcia would have been responsible for recovering there…
Garcia felt Noc should have switched out, because of West’s pick…I blame the coach and team for not communicating…Switch every thing off picks when it is under 5 seconds…it was a catch and shot…

As a wrapup to his crazy night, West manages to screen two guys while playing on one leg. That is kind of sad on the Kings’ part. (At least as I recall he did. I’m at work and can’t see the replay.)

Taj says:
Sorry.. he was obviously late on the switch. Looks like it was his assignment. Wasn’t much of a screen though, but if the call was to switch on everything… He should’ve been there.

Billy Hoyle says:
Clearly Garcia’s fault .. there’s 1.7 seconds left , there’s obviously not going to be another pass .. no time for a switch . He should have followed his man through the screen , and got a hand up . Pretty lame that he was yelling after they lost . Suck it up , hombre . His chicken dance after hitting a late 3 was not only lame , but premature .

jryu says:
that was a weak ass screen. garcia didn’t even try at all to fight through it.
but as taj said, above, if they were supposed to switch, nocioni should’ve closed out faster than that..

Brown says:
How do you get screened by your own teammate and expect him to cover for your ass? Garcia should have been smart enough to GO AROUND Nocioni. Entirely Garcia’s fault.

We all know that was Sacramento’s attempt at clinching the last place overall. Anymore wins and they might actually catch Washington or the Clippers.

From the look of the play it looked as though the coach had called an automatic switch, kinda like a matchup zone and Nocioni had a brain fart.

they should focus on playing it easy they should keep one foot in cancun and the other on the court so they than get a higher lottery pick.

Well, I’m biased in situations like this. I’ve always felt that players should fight through the screen. I don’t care what level you’re playing, I’m not a fan of switching. Based on that, I blame Garcia. He didn’t even attempt to fight through the screen.

Marc Stein says:
Garcia’s fault – if he’s not going to follow his defender, he should at least push Nocioni out (Garcia unfortunately, didn’t do it fast enough)… what made it worst was that he gave up on the play too.
Garcia = FAIL

LMAO Mark! I hear you. That was a damn do or die shot right there. I’m pretty sure the Kings wanted to get the W for Vlade but the Hornets went and spoiled it.

Also did anyone pay attention to Abdur-Rahim’s reaction in the crowd to Rasual’s shot? It’s like he knew that shot was in before it reached the net. LMAO!

Who’s fault is it? Thats easy, the ref’s for giving Nocioni a tech for hanging on the rim. Poor players, other than the money I’m sure they wish they could return to the good ol’ days of pick-up/streetball where you could do whatever the **** you wanted to the rim.

the sad thing was I wasn’t even shocked. After watching this Kings team all season, I’ve decided Kenny Natt coaches like Barack Obama in the special Olympics. I would have been more shocked if Rasual didn’t nail that. Its the way things have gone for the past few years.

Nocioni should have have switched, since that’s what the coach proly told them, but Garcia should have said something and PUSHED NOCIONI out to him.
with that much time left-DO NOT GUARD THE INBOUNDER.

Garcia’s fault. He had no reason to switch. It’s not like he got caught on a screen. He had a clear path to Butler but failed to stick to him.
Even if he was told to switch, commin sense and basketball IQ atthe time would have told him otherwise. Not only did he have a clear path, but Nocioni was bodied-up against West and it would be impossible for Nocioni to switch out on time.
Just a clear, glaring, inopportune defensive lapse.
