Dwyane Wade Won’t Wait Until 2010

Dwyane Wade (photo. Mannion)
Hey everyone, my name is Liz Toppi and I will be posting for the next couple of months as an intern at Dime. I am a senior at the University of Rhode Island and a Rhode Island native. I’ve been playing basketball since I can remember and I love the game. My favorite player is Rajon Rondo and I’m a Celtics fan (and at no point in time wish to discuss that last game against the Magic in this past series).
The topic in question today is whether or not Dwyane Wade will wait until 2010 to sign an extension with the Miami Heat. He has until July to make that decision and is taking his time with it. I think he is going to stay. It’s obvious he wants to have a commitment with an organization and that organization appears to be the Heat. I say Michael Jordan, you think Chicago Bulls. I say Larry Bird, you think Boston Celtics. I say Dwyane Wade, and what do you think? Miami Heat.
What are your thoughts?

For some reason, I dont really think Miami Heat – D Wade. And Im not even trying to be an asshole

CasualFan says:
I think he will stay. As long as Pat Riley is running things out there, there is s good chance that they can build a contender. The Heat have already proven to Wade that they know what they are doing, and if B Easy becomes the player he was hyped up to be as the 2nd overall pick I can see him and Wade having roles as a clear #1 and #2 option combo.

Rare Air says:
I think Riles will convince him to stay. At this point I dont really know where else would be a great fit for him. Miami has a team that could do some damage in the next few years. D Wade was looking hella strong this year, Miami is a good scene for him.

SWAT says:
hmm…i dont kno if players see it as they used to. i mean obviously you get the correct PR answers “Yea i would like to come back…” but how many times do you hear a player say i want to retire as a ______. And even if thy do that look wht Boozer did. Sadly our society has become a what have you done for me lately type and this is how i see a majority of the current NBA players, and this is no knock against tht hustle because i think tht some of these dudes actually deserve the money. Bottom line i think it’s gonna boil down to who has the most to offer.

Also, I say he stays

Miami Heat, D-Wade, no question. Not Glen Rice, not Tim Hardaway, not Rony Seikaly, not Steve Smith. Only Alonzo Mourning comes close. If they get help, i.e. Boozer, then he definitely stays…
May 26th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
John says:
He should stay. Pat Riley is always in the win now mode. The Heat have a 23 Million expiring contract of Jermaine Oneal and a 7 Million expiring contract of Mark Blount, plus Dorrel Wright, Cris Quin, Jamario Moon, Joel Anthony, Diawara, MLL and picks to get 3 players. Something along the lines of Kirk Hinrich, Caron Butler and Tyson Chandler. Get it done Riley !
Kirk – Chalmers
Wade – Cook
Caron B. – James Jones
Beasley – Haslem
Tyson – Magloire

Welcome Liz!
D Wade is staying put. He LOVES the south beach and they love him. He is a freaking super star who has already cemented his name as an all time great… and he’s getting better.
I have no doubt that he re-signs. The Heat management have already committed to building around him and are starting to round out a semi-successful roster. If Joel Anthony continues to build his game (picks up some pointers from O’Neal on the turn around J), if Mario decides to step up his ball handling skills, and if B Easy puts a thought process into his game – Miami is straight.
Of course, we could use another dominant center – but who couldn’t?
D Wade is a lifer in Miami.

Marques says:
I don’t think he is going to stay in Miami. I think he is going to go to a team that is winning right now and has a shot at getting another championship. I could see him going to Chicago since that’s where he is from and they have players to trade away and expiring contracts they can get rid of to make room for Wade.

Ashlov says:
Hey Liz, welcome aboard.
Aside from Miami being a great city, Florida being tax free, the Heat having a great owner, and Wade being a demigod there, he’ll stay for two other big reasons. The Heat can pay him more than anyone else, and with the CBA more than likely reducing the maximum that players can make, Wade will stand to lose more money by not signing an extension.
Wade has already established a legacy in Miami. At this point, Riley will help him build on it by acquiring another star player and a stellar supporting cast.
If Wade signs an extension this summer, expect Riley to acquire Chris Bosh and trade all of his expiring contracts for one helluva supporting cast.

Welcome Liz and great point….
Miami is one of the big markets in the US that needs a star(NYK, LA, Boston and Chicago aint the only ones) so money aint a problem and they have the money and flexibility to put a team together to win soon. keep chalmers and b-easy, go get amare, hinrich, Caron, jamison, or tyson, or even a young developing center (deandre jordan anyone?). he already has showed that he can get a team to the post season and he as a hell of a following wherever her goes. when he visits you know u goin to see him play. Riles will make sure he stays

west coast says:
I think Wade will stay in Miami but I think he will play it out until ‘10. If he keeps the Heat in limbo that puts the pressure on Riley to bring in better players this off season. He does not run the risk of being traded since they cant get a value close to him as well. He is still getting good endorsements and Miami has favorable tax laws which means he will most likely stay because he takes home more money.

WE HATE WADE FROM 05-06 BUT WE’LL GLADLY TAKE HIM ON THE ROSTER LOL

What’s going to be interesting for all these Class of ‘10 guys (LeBron, Bosh, Wade) is that they are eligible to sign extensions this summer.
If they don’t sign one, then you can read into it as them saying “see ya” to their respective teams.

Wade is staying with no questions asked. He started something great with the Heat and will remain there to build the team up for the long run. I doubt he’ll be made an amazing offer. So he’ll stay put and be one of those guys who aren’t thrown around team to team and make an even bigger name for himself with Miami.
Nice work Liz, representing that URI-RI-Celtic pride. Don’t listen to the people who have nothing else better to do than to trash you or ask for pics. Keep up the great work.
