Dagomar says:
This is depressing. It’s a disgrace his reputation from years past is coloring the officiating to this extent.
May 9th, 2009 at 9:33 am
QQ says:
Reputation bullshit. JVG is right. This is not EVEN a flagrant foul.
The refs are blind as hell.
May 9th, 2009 at 9:40 am
foolio_iglesias says:
Not even close.Oh well…
May 9th, 2009 at 10:06 am
flegman says:
a simple foul. Refs are overracting. NBA is fixed.
May 9th, 2009 at 10:06 am
Ashlov says:
Not a flagrant whatsoever.
May 9th, 2009 at 10:07 am
ticktock6 says:
Just a foul. Two free throws. Disgraceful.
May 9th, 2009 at 10:12 am
res. says:
Not a flagrant foul 2. It’s not even a flagrant 1 in my opinion. I think the fact Gasol is tall and all made it seem look worse than it actually was.
Rockets fans shouldn’t be worried. Artest won’t be suspended.
May 9th, 2009 at 10:20 am
NBAizAbiz says:
This is why I hate the NBA come playoff time….Makes golf look like football…NBA used to mean No Boys Allowed….Just pathetic…FIXED FIXED FIXED..Just give the O’Brian to Lebron already and go straight to training camp so the league can decide which team will win based on popularity…BS
May 9th, 2009 at 10:22 am
Big Mike says:
I’ve been saying since game 2 that the L is soft and the refs over react. The Kobe elbow wasn’t a flagarant 1 but everyone was yapping about how he should have been suspended. Ron was worst because pau was in the air but it wasn’t a flagarant. LA is gonna win the series anyways so it doesn’t matter if Ron is suspended or not. The L is fixed.
May 9th, 2009 at 10:38 am
JA says:
Holy shit this is no where near a flagrant 2! In my eyes it’s just a normal hard foul…
May 9th, 2009 at 10:39 am
Ekstor says:
Even Kobe said it should have been nothing more than a foul and that Artest should not have been thrown out of either game.
May 9th, 2009 at 10:51 am
res. says:
Quite frankly, I find those NBA is fixed comments ridiculous, especially considering I have seen the Lakers getting several bad calls, not to mention one of their players getting suspended (Fisher). Like I said, this was not a flagrant 2 (and not even a flagrant 1 in my opinion) but it has nothing to do with the league being fixed or not. Crappy calls and blind refs have always been part of the game since forever and not just in basketball. Every single team in the L gets calls going their way and calls going against them at some point or another. The Lakers deserved to win last night. The ejection happened when the game was basically over so it’s not like the refs ejected Artest in order to help the Lakers to win. Come on now.
May 9th, 2009 at 11:06 am
Bulls Fan says:
Wow that was ridiculous
May 9th, 2009 at 11:15 am
rlf says:
it’s not a flagrant, not 1 or 2…but see this is the same thing that happened with trevor and rudy, except pau is 7 feet, same play, same fall, different result because pau is not a drama queen like rudy.
in any event, like kobe said, is a hard foul and that’s it, he didn’t deserve the flagrant.
ron’s at fault in all of this, he ran his mouth to no end in the last 2 days, for a tough guy it sure hurt him a lot to have an elbow in his CHEST.
poor guy. but that’s not a flagrant. what about rondo? why is he getting away with so much, is he a superstar?
May 9th, 2009 at 11:18 am
Spliff 2 My Lou says:
Not a flagrant at all. It looks like Lowry was the one who actually caused Gasol to fall from behind.
May 9th, 2009 at 11:31 am
tl says:
how was ron called for a flagrant and not rondo when he damn near decapitated brad miller. the refs suck at there job.
May 9th, 2009 at 11:37 am
E$ says:
I wonder if the NBA has a rule that Ron Artest will never win a championship because of “THE PALACE MASSACRE”
May 9th, 2009 at 11:38 am
rodnets says:
rondos smack over miller was 10 times worse that the foul refs are crap
May 9th, 2009 at 11:47 am
m.rob says:
Van Gundy keepin’ it real….that’s a good hard foul. This is the playoffs, if anyone tries for a layup they get laid out. The nba is turning into a sport for pansies with refs calling the game like this.
May 9th, 2009 at 11:58 am
j says:
thats not even a hard fould. when you have battier grabbing gasol, and lowry coming behind pushing that was why gasol was so off balance. In my opinion artest didnt even foul him. plus gasol flops all over the place. and hes a pussy. he was boo hooing that artest hit him in the head. thats garbage, and the dirty hairy spaniard who said that is garbage.
May 9th, 2009 at 12:05 pm

yeah… ron artest will never win a chip. the l would not let it.

Scott says:
Agreed with everyone, not a flagrant 1 for that matter, how they didn’t call Rondo on Miller a flagrant 1 at least, and here Artest actually goes for the ball and he gets the boot, wtf is going on. Fuckin Refs.
May 9th, 2009 at 12:19 pm
Ric Hardwood says:
he went for the ball… just a hard playoff foul… nba trying to hand Lakers the series… let them play….
May 9th, 2009 at 12:40 pm
IGP says:
Also, Pau doesn’t even get pissed about the foul. He just gets up and walks to the free throw line.
May 9th, 2009 at 12:44 pm
0nyx says:
Bullcrap!
Artest went straight for the ball. If that’s a flagrant 2 then Rondo should have been suspended for the rest of the playoffs.
May 9th, 2009 at 1:02 pm

Is he getting a bad rap?He got the same rep he been had for years now.Thats why they call the bullshit on him.

fuck the nba last night was the first time i ever said fuck u the refs the nba is a piece of shit. not even when joey crawford was fuckin up the spurs i was this pissed about the refs.

Mikey F Baby says:
Van Gundy was right. he said on a number of occasions last night that the NBA has gone soft and this just proves his point.

Make-It-Rain says:
WTF..If it was the other way around and KOBE fouled yao in the air like that they wouldnt of even called a flagerent 1

marcus the great says:
man i fell asleep in the 3rd quarter and when i woke up they showed this replay like every break and i kept wondering why. i just found out now that Artest got ejected.
this is COMPLETE BULLSHIT! thats not even a flagrant 1!! this is really depressing. HE EVEN BLOCKED THE SHOT!! i say its barely a personal foul, the momentum from Gasol’s shot gettin thrown back in his face is what made him fall! i admit it looked pretty awkward but thats jus cuz Gasol is tall and goofy lookin, Artest shouldnt have been ejected.
the refs are deciding too many games in the playoffs this year (except that every player that has gotten suspended, their team ends up winning anyway) but still they are having too much of an impact. i’m upset now, this has started my work shift off bad lol
May 9th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Rafa23 says:
i agree its not even a flagrant 1.
BUT the way ron artest has behaved on and off the court is just ridiculous and he shouldn’t be surprised by those calls.
the fact is he killed an entire franchise which was the best young team in the league with a number of actions(not only the brawl, he did something every 2-3 months.)
then in sactown he didn#t do alot on the court but beat his wife.
i like his game alot, he may even be a nice guy, but he is just in serious trouble mentally and everybody knows it.
so dont be suprised he gets called alot closer, you never know when he will explode again.

Curtis G says:
I Posted this under the “Would Ron Artest Have Been Suspended” blog yesterday and some of you mocked me when I said that the Stern was out to get Artest for what he did to the NBA’s image at the Palace. Yea… who’s f*cking laughing now? If I were Ron, and the Rockets do go one to lose, in the closeout game, if the Rockets are obviously going to lose, I would f*cking try to F*ck up Kobe or Fish and get ejected for real because it seems, either way, they are just going to keep f*cking with the dude until he does something close to what happened at the Palace just so they can say “I told you so” anyway.
Check this out below:
Here’s my problem; name one incident Ron was involved in BEFORE the Palace brawl? Can’t? Okay, let’s try this. Name one incident that he’s been involved in SINCE the brawl? Oh the domestic dispute case? Oh yea, I forgot about that. A case in which the judge dismissed the charges. Yea, I totally like to think that judges go around letting insane motherf*ckers off the hook for beating their wives! Keep this in kind too; in domestic violence cases, the DA can bring charges against a person WITHOUT the consent of the victim if they renege. The dog incident you say? Oh, another charge that was dropped… because he proved he had someone on the payroll to feed dogs locked up at a house he hadn’t been to in almost a year! Yes, I can totally see how that is his fault! The truth of the matter is that Ron’s only real NBA transgression was being the first player to start an NBA fight of that size (which I still think Ben was more responsible for starting). The f*cked up part is that he wasn’t even the first to actually go in the stands and fight a fan but he was the only one that has been ostracized the way he has. Any Houston fan should remember and be able to tell you how Vernon Maxwell charged into the stands after a fan that had been disrespecting his daughter. Yes, the same Vernon Maxwell that Jordan said was one the toughest and (sometimes) dirtiest people to play against in his entire career. Vern definitely had the reputation for being insane but never got anywhere near what Artest is painted as. Ironically, there have been quite a few others as well, but for some reason, Ron has been made out to be way worse than he actually is. Now I am not saying that the cat ain’t kind of insane (he is)and tends to say some off the wall sh*t (that no doubt contributes to the way he is treated), but that’s more a product of how and where he grew up, not because he really is that way. And let’s be real, Charles Barkley was saying ignorant sh*t well before and above most of the benign stuff that comes out of Artest! But if you’re looking for certified crazy people with anger issues, Ron isn’t that person, however, the a**hole that stabbed that kid with a broken off table leg probably qualifies as psycho material, but Ron? Please! Passion cannot and should not be confused for anger. Regardless, you’re going to have to do better than starting a fight (albeit a large one) in an NBA arena where ZERO people suffered serious injury to qualify as the bane of the NBA to me. The only thing seriously hurt in that incident was Stern pride and what he perceived as an injury to the NBA’s image. The real crime though in that brawl was the fact that the punk a** Auburn Hills police couldn’t control their arena. I bet any kind of money HPD would have shot AT LEAST 5 people… on camera… and then denied that sh*t!

Rafa23 says:
@ marcus
barely a personal foul?
its obv a horrible call to give him any kind of flagrant, but its a clear hard foul, lets not get too dramatic
May 9th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Curtis G says:
By the way, I am not even watching the rest of the series or the rest of the playoffs if the Rockets lose. Anyne who saw what happened to Artest last night can no longer deny that the NBA (like alot of people already suspected) has hidden agendas for and against certain players. Well I guess it isn’t so hidden anymore is it? Waht Stern is doing and allowing his refs to do isn’t basketball, it’s getting vengeance and that’s bullshit.

F that call.
May 9th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
x0t says:
this happens every year. There’s really no need for refs at all, their only purpose is to fix the game. Call your own fouls, honor system. real basketball
May 9th, 2009 at 4:06 pm
Rainbow says:
I don’t think Artest getting tossed with 40 sec left in the game is a conspiracy to get the laker in the finals. No way he’ll miss the next game.
May 9th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Tha Boddy (SouthPaw) says:
Mad props to Curtis G again!!!
Ron Artest blocked the shot and his hand hit him on the follow through if anything it’s just a hard foul he didn’t body him up or anything he blocked the shot
May 9th, 2009 at 4:58 pm
E$ says:
the NBA downgraded Ron Artest’s flagrant foul against Pau Gasol in Friday night’s Lakers-Rockets game from a flagrant-2 to a flagrant-1.

dmitry of jersey says:
gotta say.. i’ve never seen so much agreement on Dime before. the refs got this one wrong for sure
May 9th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Ricki Lutes says:
this is no where near a flagrant foul 2, cause it’s not even a flagrant foul! the refs gotta stop making weird calls on artest and stop loving kobe!
May 10th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
Taj says:
No way thats anything but a hard playoff foul!!
May 11th, 2009 at 7:57 am
Alex says:
What he does with his left hand is a flagrant foul if you take a closer look. Of course I wouldn’t call a flagrant 2, my opinion
May 11th, 2009 at 8:15 am
shake&bake says:
How is it a flagrant 2 when you get that much ball?
