Paul Pierce Should Be Thrilled

aubrey

Who cares that you just had your best game of the playoffs thus far, going for 27 points on 60% shooting and finding Big Baby for the game winner? Who cares that Doc Rivers said that the pass to Davis was “as good as the shot to me,” and that “our best player trusted the pass”? Right now there’s a greater reason to celebrate if you’re Paul Pierce: Aubrey O’Day wants a piece. Read More »

Rashard Lewis Isn’t Happy About the Celtics Celebration

I thought Doc Rivers post-game touchdown dance was going to elicit a reaction from the Magic. But as long as he didn’t split his pants with his Rod Tidwell ground-slap, Doc didn’t cause any problems. After Big Baby hit the game-winning jumper (and pushed a little kid into his seat), some other Celtics supposedly crossed the line, inciting notorious tough guy Rashard Lewis to issue a warning to Boston through the media.

NBA Draft Rumor: Knicks Promise to Take Stephen Curry at No. 8

Stephen Curry at Davidson

Yesterday NBADraft.net posted this rumor:

A rumor that has been gaining steam is that the Knicks will select Stephen Curry with their 8th pick. We’ve received word that there could be truth to this from inside sources claiming that Curry chose to put his name into the draft this year based on the Knicks assuring Curry that they would use their lottery selection to draft him. Mark Cuban Calls Kenyon Martin A ‘Thug’

Just as Mark Cuban started to storm on the court after Carmelo Anthony‘s game-winning three, he gave an innocent camera man a completely unnecessary one-handed shove (check 2:25 mark on video). And now he’s the one who is calling Kenyon Martin a ‘thug.’

Even though K-Mart was the guy who was trying to calm things down – he and Jerry Stackhouse looked like they came to an understanding at center court – Cuban insulted Martin, not to his face, but to his mom.

The Best “Where Will Amazing Happen” Commercial

The first time I ever set foot on the court at Madison Square Garden, I walked over to the wing where Larry Johnson sunk the three as part of his four-point play over Antonio Davis. If I were a Laker fan, this is the moment I’d try to recreate…

Rockets pull the surprise upset; Big Baby hits a game-winner

Shane Battier (photo. NBA)

There was one thing all of us over here overlooked when we wrote off the Rockets as soon as they lost Yao Ming: That Houston has played some of their best ball this season (especially against the Lakers) when they use a smaller, quicker, sans-Yao lineup — and even more so if they’re also hitting their threes. For yesterday’s Game 4, the Rockets started Chuck Hayes at center, surrounded by Luis Scola, Ron Artest, Shane Battier and Aaron Brooks. Read More »

The Mavs Who Cried Wolf

Carmelo Anthony

Antoine Wright, Rick Carlisle and the rest of the Mavericks made NBA history yesterday: Becoming the first player, coach and team to ever argue in a playoff game that they DID commit a foul, not the other way around. In something straight out of The Boy Who Cried Wolf, the Mavs were up two on the Nuggets with six seconds left when Carmelo Anthony got the ball. Instructed by Carlisle to foul ‘Melo on his first move, Wright bumped ‘Melo twice with no whistle before ‘Melo freed himself and stuck a three-pointer with one second left right in front of Dallas’ bench. In a hilarious bit of irony, everybody on the Mavs was then screaming at the refs, swearing Wright had fouled ‘Melo. Read More »

Breaking News: Yao Ming out for the playoffs

Yao Ming

It happened again. After limping around on what was thought to be an ankle injury in last night’s Rockets/Lakers game, it was just reported on ABC that Yao Ming has a hairline fracture in his foot and is out for the rest of the playoffs.

We’re not even gonna pretend to be optimistic. The Rockets are done, and the Lakers only have the Nuggets to worry about now on their way to the NBA Finals.

Chuck Daly (7/30/1930 – 5/9/2009)

Chuck Daly

In a season during which the basketball world has already lost legends Pete Newell, Johnny “Red” Kerr, Norm Van Lier and Kay Yow, today brings more sad news with the death of Hall of Fame coach Chuck Daly.

Daly had been battling pancreatic cancer, and passed away this morning at his home in Jupiter, Florida. He won two championships with the “Bad Boys” Detroit Pistons, coached the original Dream Team to the gold medal at the ’92 Olympics, and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in ’94.
