Swine Flu Invades High School Basketball

kenny boynton

Today on HighSchoolHoop, we’re examining how the swine flu pandemic is affecting high school basketball, particularly the AAU scene.

We got up with a number of premier high school players, including Harrison Barnes, the No. 1-ranked player in our HighSchoolHoop Top 50, to see how the swine flu has changed they way they live their basketball lives. We were surprised to hear just how seriously high school athletes are taking this whole thing.

Check it out HERE.

    Why are you guys trying to hype this flu up? Maybe you guys should report how Swine Flu has been scientifically proven to be no worse than the regular Flu? This is pretty irresponsible “journalism” if you ask me . . . . just a way for mass media to improve their ad impressions so they can make more money! . . . . weak move Dime . . . WEAK!

  2. Lakers Nation says:

    By the way, there was a pretty good basketball game last night on the West Coast . . . blood, fights, ejections, technicals . . . it’d be nice if you had someone write an article on that for the east coast before everybody’s done with their lunch instead of this BS!

  3. Simon says:

    This is way off topic, but DIME you gotta post this dunk! Scottie Pippen with a straight up man’s dunk on Patrick Chewing! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETzpRdC6WS8&NR=1

    You’re giving pigs a bad rap. It’s now officially referred to as H1N1 Virus.

  5. Austin Burton says:

    @Spliff
    * “H1N1 Virus” = six syllables
    * “swine flu” = two syllables
    Which do you think the TV news anchors and headliner-writers are gonna go with?

  6. Patrick Cassidy says:

    @Lakers Nation,

    Did you read the highschoolhoop story? We’re just reporting the concerns that some of the top high school basketball players in the country have about the flu and the precautions they’re taking. Would love to know how that’s “weak”…

  7. rangerjohn says:

    i agree with laker nation
    this flu is no worse then the normal flu. while 2100 cases have been confirmed WORLDWIDE, the usa alone averages 36000 deaths a year from the normal flu.

    all these highschool players need to do is stop listening to these BS stories on teh news, stop blowing things up like this.

    i also find it funny that the W.H.O. stopped calling it swine flu because a bunch of muslims where going to kill 300,000 of the christians pigs because they thought they where gonna catch it from teh pigs. laughable!

  8. bballinca says:

    rangerjohn and others what you fail to understand when comparing the swine flu to a regular flu is:

    1. Swine flu’s ability to mutate.
    2. Humans don’t have antibodies to fight it.
    3. Not quite yet fully understood.

    These three things alone is what could make it a serious problem if precuations aren’t taken. I’d rather be proactive versus reactive. Think New Orleans. Had the local, state and federal gov’t (IMO more so the state and local govt) been more proactive the situation would not have been as dire as it was.

  9. Scottie sux says:

    Scottie Pippen sux…he damn near ruined the rockets..then tried to throw the team under the bus on the way out…

    I mean you gotta be trash to knock on Cuban’s door and he won’t even let you in.

    It’s weak that you’re using a “hot buzz word” in media right now to get viewership for your site . . I think Dime is way more than that and that you have more relative news to report than this . . . instead of being the shepherd, you’re being the sheep . . . you get what I’m saying?
