If you said that Lance Stephenson, the first four-time NYC champion (along with classmate Buddha Ellis), was going to commit to Cincinnati a year ago, people would have called you crazy. But that’s exactly what just happened.
Leading up to this summer’s free agency, we’d heard two conflicting rumors. (1) Carlos Boozer was going to Detroit or Miami. (2) The piss poor economy would cause some top-tier players to opt-in on the final year of their contracts instead of exploring the open market.
Although the ‘09 NBA free agent class isn’t as stacked as in years past — not to mention the League is being more thrifty than ever due to the slumping economy — teams still have holes they want to plug, and players have moves they want to make. The Wolves took two f-ing point guards, and now they’re indignant when someone says that their draft strategy isn’t making too much sense. If only every team approached the draft with the same lucid philosophy as the Thunder.
