BREAKING NEWS: Jamal Crawford to the Hawks

There won’t be any tears shed over this goodbye. ESPN’s Marc Stein is reporting that Don Nelson’s dreams came true, and Jamal Crawford is being shipped out of town in exchange for Speedy Claxton and Acie Law IV.
This move makes a lot of sense for Golden State. They still have a roster full of guys who can play shooting guard without Crawford. Plus, they now have two viable backup options at point guard if Nellie wants to slot Monta Ellis to the two for a couple possessions.
But what about Atlanta? Does it make sense to put Jamal Crawford and Joe Johnson on the court at the same time? Joe’s a Mack Truck – he can defend a three if those guys are on the floor together. If they could figure it out, Atlanta could be really dangerous offensively.
The deal might affect the Hawks’ draft plans. With two guys who both like to handle the ball a lot, they’ve got to look for a pass-first point. Maybe this increases Ty Lawson’s value on the squad?

What about a Hawks-Celtics trade involving J-Smooth and Rondo?
If you wanted to run small ball: Rondo, Crawford, Johnson, Williams, Horford
I don’t know, its just a thought.

Ansonious says:
I wished this would’ve happened last season when that bastard was on my fantasy squad, Nellie killed Crawford’s fantasy value over night, but this still doesn’t mean much more in fantasy value as I do see him coming off the bench unless J-Smoove is moved. Which makes me think J-Smoove is going some where, where that maybe is another ?

POPPI GEE says:
I like it but it’s ashame they don’t have a coach who will figure out how to make it work. Atl is just fool’s gold till a new coach is there.

You Hawks fan are gonna love what J-Craw brings to the table. He’ll have a few off nights, but when he has it goin’ look out and hide the women and children. The man’s ultra-flamable.

i like the move for the hawks. those 2 guys didn’t play anyway. might as well get a proven commodity. as far as g.s. goes…well they are consistent in running their team into they ground at least? right?

@Dh
My first thought was that there has to be another move in thw works here or this doesn’t make sense. Crawford can play the PG but his best position is SG which means either
a) The Hawks are moving JSmoove and sliding JJ to the 3, or
b) THe Hawks are letting Marvin williams walk and are planning to run with a small lineup of Bibby, Crawford, JJ, JSmoove and Horford.

What the fuck are my Warriors doing? They trade JC and all they can get for him is two D-Leaguers? If Acie Law was all that good Atlanta wouldn’t have brought in Bibby. Now I bet they are thinking they won’t have to draft a point guard which will be a big mistake. Then they are going to draft Jordan Hill if he falls that far wich will also be a mistake since his ceiling to me is Mikki Moore a good back up role player. The Warriors have the suckiest organization in the league. They don’t have a fucking clue what they’re doing. This is basically the same as last year when they brought in Marcus Williams and the D-leaguer Watson. What they’re big love fantasy with DL players anyway?

GREAT move for the Hawks. Woodson did not play Acie (who didn’t look like all that even when he played) and Speedy is done.
I concur with post 1: JJ definitely blows hot and cold during the season. Also, they can go with a small lineup with JJ at the 3.
Finally, this very well may mean that Flip is not resigned, as I see Crawford playing role Flip had last year: First guard off the bench at point guard or shooting guard, with a mission as the designated chucker! And Flip really filled that role well. I rooted for him to shoot it everytime he got the ball.
Fantastic! Draft a point guard. Don’t resign Bibby, Marvin or Zaza. Take the Polish Hammer from Orlando. Resign J-Chill from Greece, and then if there is $ left, then go ahead and match whatever low offer Marvin’s agent manages to squeeze from another team. $-wise this is very doable, because between Bibby, Marvin and Zaza, the 3 of them seriously made about $20 mil. last year.
And trade J-Smoove for Monte Ellis!
First team:
C: Gortat
PF: Horford
SF: J-Chill
PG: Ellis
SG: JJ
2nd team:
C: Soloman Jones
PF: Randolph Morris
SF: Marvin
PG: Crawford
SG: Mo Evans

i like this trade for both teams. Crawford didn’t have a future in GS and i think a Crawford/Johnson backcourt is an upgrade over a Bibby/Johnson backcourt. Speedy Claxton and Acie Law are spare parts or flat tires, maybe spare flat tires

Great move for the Hawks. BUT – this has to be used as a way to get faster as a team. They have to be able to outrun Orlando, Cleveland and Boston next year cause they won’t out-skill or out-muscle them.
I would trade Marvin Williams for a young PG like Eric Maynor or Jeff Teague. Marvin’s game frustrates the hell outta me.
I’d start:
Bibby
Crawford
JJ
J Smoove
Horford
Draft Hansbrough at 19 and use him as an energy guy off the bench with:
Maynor or Teague
Flip
Mo Evans
Hansbrough – No worse than Josh Powell off the bench
Zaza
Instant Championship

Nobody should be using the word suckiest. Not even a Warriors fan. What are you 12?
Hopefully Law is an upgrade over CJ Watson. Getting anyone to take Crawford is a win for the Warriors.

fallinup says:
Bibby
Crawford
Johnson
Smith (maybe)
Horford
Williams on the bench when they wanna get bigger. Zaza backs up Horford. Resign Bibby and that’s a line up I can live with. If they move Smith for a better PG, watch out.

Let's Go Hawks says:
I like it. I don’t love it for my team. Crawford is better than Flip Murray. Re-sign Bibby.
What they really need is to run. But Woodson won’t do it so its irrelevant. They would have a hard time getting the second round.
