Breaking News: Pistons Fire Michael Curry

The Detroit Pistons announced today that they have fired head coach Michael Curry. Can’t really say that this was a suprise - last season was an absolute mess in Detroit on so many levels. The team was 39-43 and got swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Cavs.
And beyond that, he didn’t really seem to have a handle on the team from the jump. There was initial Chauncey/A.I. trade that sent Rip Hamilton into a season of pouting. Curry could never figure out how keep both Iverson and Rip happy and ended up alienating them both. And by the end of the season, to say that the team looked like they didn’t give a sh**, even in the playoffs, would be a huge understatement.
Who should be the next coach in Detroit?

Damn. The only thing in Detroit with less stability than the auto industry is the Pistons head coaching job.

Dumars hiring Avery would say “I don’t care what the players like or dislike. I want to win by whatever means are necessary.” And Avery will win. His team will play hard and they will win. All the players will end up hating him, but so what, winning is all that matters.

I would also suggest JVG as an option.

detroit sports radio is actually talking either rudy t, or doug collins . . . avery would be better.
few things about this:
fire the guy after he scouts and drafts guy, the day before free agency? sounds like tampering: FA or guy who can be in a sign and trade says “i may like it in detroit, but not for that coach . . . ”
second thing, not having a coach can hurt FA signings (who knows how that team will be playing like), so they may already have a guy in the wings.

Spliff 2 My Lou says:
If I was an out of work coach I would wait to see what Dumars does through free agency/trades before I would even think about taking this team over. The Pistons do not the pieces right now to compete in the East much less the NBA. Besides there’s no gurantee you’ll have a job next season no matter how the team does. Flip Saunders was fired after going to the Finals three years straight.

Haaaaaaa, Ha (and yes I’m saying it like Nelson from the Simpsons) but Seriously dude should’ve never been given the job. How in the hell is a career sixth man gonna tell somebody how to ball (GTFOH).
I say hire Bill Lambeir look at what he did for the Shock. Nuff Said!!!

The Laimbeer resignation mid-season out of nowhere tells me he and Joe D have a hand shake agreement. You know how these old players like to protect and set up each other. Unfortunately for them, players from today couldn’t care less about the Bad Boys.

well fed, he may not be a good coach, but just being a sixth man has nothing to do with it. greg popvich never played in the nba, phil jackson was just a sixth man on the knicks championship team.
so i would just say he couldn’t handle those guys.

Austin Burton says:
Didn’t Dumars say during the season that he was going to be patient with Curry? That he understood he put him in a tough situation with the Billups trade? So much for that.
Anyway, I like Avery for this job, but it’ll probably be Laimbeer. It has to be somebody the players (particularly Rip) will respect immediately, and Avery and Laimbeer have legit NBA playing credentials.

next coach should be someone who can go in and get everyone on the same page while still letting everyone know who’s boss.
Someone like Coach Boon from ‘Remember The Titans’.

@Rafa
You must’ve been the sixth man at the Rec Center.
@Austin
Dumars realized his mistake whats wrong with that. Cut your loses and move on I say. Plus I like Lam cause if something jumps off he’ll be the 1st one off the bench. lol

Thank God. Wasn’t Curry’s team or time, should’ve been kept as an assistant, oh well.
You wanna stress defense so that atleast you’re competitive? Avery Johnson.
You want fresh blood seeing that you’re rebuilding? Marc Jackson.
Free agency is going to be huge. Right now the roster is incomplete, it’d be a mistake to pick a direction in coaching and then not being able to get the required players.
Detroit has a lot of money to spend and there are alot of good players out there. I can see them chasing Gortat and Millsapp as their next frontcourt. With that set they can still pick up a decent backup point guard and a wing for the rotation. As long as they have Prince they’ll be decent, not good just decent, but they need to surround him with something because he’s not a franchise player.
Its all in Dumars hands now, was the first time a fluke or can he make his team great again? Let’s hope so

I can’t believe that everyone is totally ignoring the fact that Joe Dumars put Curry in this position in the first place. He blew the team apart by trading Chauncey for AI. A trade none thought would work but Joe an a few homers. If anything should be said about Curry, it should be praise for getting a team that completely quit by game 5 of regular season into the playoffs at all. I feel for Dice, he could of signed with anyone last season, but he got suckered into coming back to play for a bunch of quitters and cry babies(except maybe Maxieel and Stuckey). Joe D screwed the pooch….again.
