Breaking News: Richard Jefferson Traded To The Spurs

jefferson_06_01

According to ESPN.com, the Bucks have traded Richard Jefferson to the Spurs for Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas and Fabricio Oberto.

This is a great move for the Spurs who instantly add youth to a team who was getting very old. Plus, for the Bucks, they had a clear financial incentive to make this trade. Bowen, Thomas and Oberto are all in the last year of their contracts and the deal will clear $15 million off the books for the Bucks next season. If you ask me though, none of those guys (other than perhaps Oberto) will actually suit up for the Bucks. Thanks CGF!

What do you think or this trade?

  1. hiimeric says:

i was hoping this would happen at the deadline, but now is good too. watch out for the next couple years nba. with this move the spurs have, at the very least one more finals appearance b4 duncan goes bad.

  2. nerditry says:

Will this assist in clearing space for resigning of Sessions or Charlie V?

  3. K Dizzle says:

Ouch…if you Bowen. This the reward for your years of service. And a get out of jail card if you RJ. Only thing is he better get used to bein the 4th, sometimes 5th option dependin on how Mase and FinDog goin..

  4. @ says:

Crazy! The Spurs dump a bunch of unused guys and get a legit star!

  5. A$$Cube aka Buckshot says:

Good move by the Bucks. They were going nowwhere with RJ thus saving a buck here and there is a sound financial move.

Great move by the Spurs. They got exactly what they needed, and did so without surrendering youth –Hill and/or Mahinmi. Plus, I’m pretty much sure Bowen and Thomas are heading back to Fort Alamo after they’re bought out.

Next move in line: select French combo guard Nando De Colo in the 2nd round. They do like him a lot.

  6. KCL says:

Damn you cheap ass Bucks! you give the spurs exactly what they need and now the will stay contenders for at least the next two seasons. Sucks for a laker and Blazer fan like myself who thought the spurs finally would get out of the way.

  7. Lakers Nation Dot Com says:

The Spurs are still done. They just gave away a very solid bench for one last chance at glory. They had to make this move just stay competitive in the west! Lakers are still winning this decade 4 Trophies to 3 and I seriously doubt they’re going to challenge us next year! We ARE the Franchise of the Decade . . . AGAIN!

  8. wiz says:

You had a nice career bowen, im sure you wont be shooting air balls with the bucks….or shooting period..
im only hating because i live in san antonio and am tired of everyone praising him.

  9. that_dude says:

i bet all three would be playing for spurs next season

  10. that's whats up says:

    This is sweetness –

Bowen also got his degree from UTSA – but we’ll all miss the H.E.B. commercials

  11. Big V says:

    @3,

I highly doubt that RJ is going to be playing second fiddle to Roger Mason or Finley.

  12. s.bucketz says:

    kurt thomas is the man

  13. Tbest says:

They aren’t letting the Lakers walk through the West next year. I think there will be a lot of shake ups and some real challengers in the West next year.

  14. Let's Go Hawks says:

Damn, this is just ridiculous. they Spurs gave up Bowen (who dropped off the map last season), Thomas (who is at the tail end of his career and could get bought out and resigned in the middle of the season) and Oberto (the only real contributor of the three) for a in-his-prime 20 point scorer when that is exactly what they needed? Wow.

Plus i actually think that this makes the spurs deeper. It moves mason to the bench and gives them a legit 6th man. Udoka fills the rest of Bowen’s shoes like he started last season. All they need is a decent center and backup. . Much as i would hate to see him leave, ZaZa Pachulia would be perfect for the Spurs. And there has to be another guy out there who they can sign.

  15. Ansonious says:

Ha Ha like everyone else is saying they’ll be placed on waivers and be playing in San Antoine before seasons end at least Thomas I’m sure of this

  16. Ross says:

Great move for the Spurs. They just got competitive again.

  17. Gerard says:

Ok, but if you do 1999-2009 the count is still 4-4 (tie). Sounds pretty selective not to include the championship they won that immediately preceded the Lakers.

  18. Mista TKO says:

Them Damn Spurs, I thought it was time for my lakers to Ascend without having to Worry About The French Rapper and Crew…..

  19. LakerFanIam says:

Damn… Spurs front office does it again. They just have a knack for keeping their team strong…

  20. Mista TKO says:

Them Damn Spurs, I thought it was time for my lakers to Ascend without having to Worry About The French Rapper and Crew…..

WHy can’t the east do something like that? I’m tired of Lebron having Cakewalks throughout the playoffs while Kobe and Melo, have to struggle with teams that would be top 4 in the East!

  21. Jah says:

Ridiculous. Great deal for the Spurs.

    PG – Tony Parker
    SG – Manu Ginobli
    SF – Richard Jefferson
    PF – Tim Duncan
    C – “who cares?”

    Dangerous…

  22. isotope says:

Yeah if the new Bucks dont resign with the Spurs they’ll be really thin up front. If i’m the Bucks GM i’m not letting those guys get away so easily.

Or the Rockets should try to claim Oberto off waivers before the Spurs can get him back.

  23. QQ says:

    @19

To hell with you and the classless LA FAKERS. Team of the Decade my ass. Orlando is the team of the decade. Next decade that is. Fuck all y’all haters!

  24. K Dizzle says:

This is good for LA. Now we gotta sign Ariza and/or Odom cuz RJ would KILL Walton.

@ Let’s go, Hawks – If Spurs have any space, they should seriously consider Gortat from Orl cuz the Magic can’t afford him AND Hedo. He’d be a great pickup.

  25. Jah says:

Also, the Bucks knew they weren’t doing anything big this year…or next. This move’ll allow Joe Alexander to get more breathing room and develop as well. We’ll see what else develops after Thursday, too…

  26. POPPI GEE says:

Spurs slowly and quietly rebuilding the machine. They are getting their parts healthy and getting younger but still gaining a vet who won’t cause a stir. As much as one dislikes the Spurs you have to admire how they go about business and always staying in the hunt. I must applaud their style.

Still I do hate this for Bowen and I would have like to see him go out as a Spur. Oh well he has his rings none-the-less.

  27. Austin Burton says:

Damn, this kills my Zach Randolph-to-Milwaukee deal:

    http://dimemag.com/2009/05/what-to-do-with-zach-randolph/

  28. karizmatic says:

Excellent trade for the Spurs, if Jefferson actually plays up to his potential and works hard on his jump shot this summer, the Spurs are a contender again. I don’t think any of the other guys suit up for the Bucks either. As a matter of fact I see Oberto getting released and ending up back with the Spurs. Now they need to unload Finley, and if they can get another young fast wing they will really be in the running.

  29. K Dizzle says:

    @ Ranger and Ian,

I don’t wanna hear about the Gasol trade anymore. At least we gave up a “at the time promising” young point in Crittenton, a productive Marc Gasol, and 3 picks. Even Kwame’s showin flashes in Detroit.
You guys gave up 2 dudes way past they prime and Oberto, who never had a prime lol

@ Big V – there’s a difference in being an option and in playin 2nd fiddle. Mason and Finley obviously have Pop’s trust and know their roles in that system. RJ’s a great pickup, but he’s never had to pick his spots like he’s gonna have to in San An. After Parker, TD and Manu, he’ll be the next option. But when you watch the Spurs, Pop always tries to get Finley goin early cuz he knows they harder to beat when everybody’s rollin. RJ probably gonna take Fin’s spot, but this team still ain’t scary if Manu ain’t healthy…

  30. rell says:

Great move by the Spurs. If the rumors awhile back are true that the Spurs would make a move for Rasheed for the mid-level then the West better watch out. If Rasheed goes to the Spurs I bet Pop will make Rasheed play closer to the basket instead of being a 7ft shooting guard. There 4th quarter lineup would be deadly.

    Parker
    Ginoboli
    Jefferson
    Rasheed
    Duncan

  31. Kobeef says:

There must be someone else in the deal.

    Bowen+Oberto+Thomas= 11,200,000
    Jefferson = 14,200,000

Nice move to clear salary cap space for the bucks and why not – it’s not like they were going to win anything with that crew.

  32. George W Kush Sr says:

    pg Parker
    sg Manu
    sf Jefferson
    pf Duncan
    c whoever

bench of Finley, Hill and Mason. Not bad at all. Now ‘Sheed can decide who between LA and San Antonio is taking the chip in 2010.

And you know a bunch of veterans on their last legs just like Sheed will also at a serious look at San Antonio.

  33. zaboo says:

Awesome trade and I hate the spurs. Bet the locker room is gonna be cracking up when jefferson and duncan talk to each other in that same nasally tone. Go rockets!!

  34. JH says:

Bowen will forever be remembered as a Spur even if he doesn’t make his way back to the Alamo. Personally, I think either of the 3 Spurs players could make it back.

@Lakers Nation Dot Com: People don’t hate on the Lakers cause they win…they hate their fans.

@Wiz: From SA and still hating on Bowen? You must have moved to SA from CALI.

Spurs gonna make some noise…believe that.

  35. Big V says:

Wonder how it works out starting two SG/SF guys with basically the same game.

I’d be tempted to bring one of them off the bench.

  36. 92021SpurMD says:

This is an insane move for the Spurs, I love it!! Obviously the defense is falling off, alot due to age, but we pick up more offense, in particular, more “going to the basket” offense that we missed sorely from Manu in the Dallas series. With Manu, Tony, Jefferson, Duncan, that’s alot of “at the basket” scoring. Not to mention Tony’s mid-range game, Manu’s shooting, and Jefferson’s slightly improved shooting. Add Fin, Mason, and Bonner’s shooting off the bench, Udoka’s “grindin” play, and let’s not forget about Drew Gooden’s offense, this team should be able to score. Now Pop just needs to up the defensive pressure and the Spurs will be prominent again!!

  37. Three Stacks says:

Bowen’s buyout for next season is only 2 million, which means Milwaukee will save about 5 million if he agrees to a buyout. Which he will, cause he doesn’t wanna play in Milwaukee. Which means all he’s gotta do is sit out for a month and re-sign with the Spurs for the vet minimum. I wish you could place bets on things like this happening.

  38. Jayson says:

Now the Spurs need to sign Grant Hill and Amir Johnson as backups!

  39. POPPI GEE says:

Aside from this I am just wondering about some other NBA cats:

Is Jason Kidd going to remain in Dallas? Honestly if he is ring chasing should he try to get Derek Fisher’s spot in L.A. somehow?

Allen Iverson to the Bobcats is cool real cool, but what if Allen Iverson ever played in an uptempo system like that of the Suns or NY. Personally this don’t make sense but I would love to see him in Atl. and Bibby in Minnesota or somewhere.

  40. Jayson says:

A.I. in ATL would be killa! They would be an instant title contender! Jerseys would sell like hotcakes!

  41. karizmatic says:

@ rell, actually with that lineup I think Pop wouldn’t mind Sheed shooting the 3, he would basically take Horry spot. Play defense and stretch the d by shooting clutch 3’s.

  42. LAballer says:

hahah good..some more challenges to throw our way so when we win again people like bill simmons dont discount our chip and talk their nonsense cause they are bitter their team didnt make it..

nice trade for the spurs..got exactly what they needed..id like to see us do that a little too..does anyone want sasha? ANYONE? please? u can have him..give us a ballboy or like a janitor or something..

we need to keep trev and odom now..that core plays well together..im lookin at bynum having a good year next year without injuries and excuses..and id love for us to resign shannon brown..he needs more PT..that kid is ridic..

    LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKERSSSSSSSSS ALLLLLLL DAYYYYYYY

  43. zaboo says:

do y’all think jefferson and parker can recreate the run & dunk days that jefferson and kidd enjoyed? is parker that good of a passer and is jefferson still a good leaper?

  44. Chaos says:

man this is great for the spurs and a good move for the bucks as well. the spurs line up looks like
    TP
    Ginobili
    RJ
    Duncan
    Finley
    Mason
drew gooden is there as well
    ime udoka
    george hill.
thats a good rotation if they get one more big man and another SF
Bucks probably wont play bowen or thomas and fabricio is good back up big man to bogut. joe alexander gets to play, charlie and possibly sessions get resigned and michael gets his shots again. also they can go get a vet with the money thats coming off the books

  45. BiG ShoT BoB says:

Nah Spurs need to really look at trying to get Marcus Camby. With him and Duncan holding down the paint on defense it’s a wrap.

  46. POPPI GEE says:

Yea Jayson I would love to see him runnin in Atl. and you right that Jersey would be a hot one specially if he is getting it in scoring and winning wise like that. Plus I think Atl. would be a good city for AI provided the scrippers and clubs don’t turn dude out, he has appeared to mature past that.

  47. Davros says:

Ime Udoka was suposed to be the successor to Bruce – looks like a vote of no confidence in him. What’s his contract situation?

  48. Ian says:

    K Dizzle

    “@ Ranger and Ian,

I don’t wanna hear about the Gasol trade anymore. At least we gave up a “at the time promising” young point in Crittenton, a productive Marc Gasol, and 3 picks. Even Kwame’s showin flashes in Detroit.
You guys gave up 2 dudes way past they prime and Oberto, who never had a prime lol”

you are kidding right? crittenton? please man the bucks did it for salary reasons memphis did it because west was a laker.

now a healthy manu and we have ourselves a 7 game wcf next season.

    JH
“@Wiz: From SA and still hating on Bowen? You must have moved to SA from CALI. ”
    you are right

  49. Ian says:

    Jayson

“A.I. in ATL would be killa! They would be an instant title contender!”

im sorry jayson but title contender for what?? best basketball team in atlanta cuz iverson doesnt make anyone a title contender maybe the lakers if they dont play him.

  50. Diego says:

@Poppi Gee: I’m pretty sure A.I. already lives off-season in the northern suburbs of Atlanta (although I think he was having some construction issues with a year or so ago with the house he purchased). Jerseys would sell like hotcakes that’s for sure, but I don’t know how well he’d mesh…and A.I. and Woodson–ouch.

  51. LD says:

did the bucks chris wallace without anybody knowing?

  52. LD says:

did the bucks hire chris wallace without anybody knowing?

  53. LAballer says:

    ian

you are trippin bro..if anything…at least we gave them up and comming role players and contributors..dont even tell me marc isnt a great backup center who still has to learn to play in the nba a lil more..crittenton is a good back up too.

the spurs gave up 3 week old stale cheese for jefferson..those guys have NOTHING left..well i dunno bout kurt actually..he should have had nothing left 4 years ago..somehow he keeps playing tho

it was a salary dump for both teams..

  54. Davros says:

RJ gets to start and Manu comes off the bench as usual – except in the crunch when both will play

  55. POPPI GEE says:

Diego I forgot that Woodson was the coach for a minute I mean that he had that “title” lol. Yea they prolly wouldn’t get along to hot. Didn’t know about A.I. in Norther burbs of ATL. They really need to let Woodson shoot the deuces, he has taken them as far as they will go under him.

  56. Davros says:

Bowen 38, Fabrico 34 and Thomas 36 – RJ is 29. Got way, way younger

  57. Ian says:

    Laballer
no man you cant defend the gasol trade you got a top 25 player in that deal comon everyone was complaining about that one. this trade has been more oh good deal by the buck and great by the spurs. you can make a case about both being salary dumps but dont bring up the player involved at least we can name the players the spurs gave up.

  58. ponky_alolor says:

now all RJ has to do is master the corner 3 ala bowen hehe. great move by both teams.

danny ferry, please learn from this.

  59. fallinup says:

I don’t wanna see Duncan playing all them minutes. Spurs need a big man or two. Otherwise, this is a great trade for SA. Makin moves, good to see.

  60. dk says:

OMFG!!! The cats just went from a againg 6 or 7 swed in the West to the 5 or the 4th spot amazing. RJ is like a tall Iverson, a virus to team unity, great deal though. Spurs exit n the quarters again

  61. Let's Go Hawks says:

HELL NO TO A.I. TO ATLANTA. Guys, that would be a straight disaster. Woodson has taken them as far as they can but that core can be better. With the right coach, Smith would be the best player and take that pressure off johnson. Now, what they need to do is trade Smith b/c him and Woodson don’t get along. And Iverson would have the same problems that smith does

  62. LAballer says:

    Ian

oh i agree man..i mean..jefferson DOES NOT compare to gasol..most definitely..

my arguement is..what we gave up will help the grizz in the future whereas what your guys gave up wont help the bucks AT ALL besides in the salary dept..so in that sense..the spurs got a steal cause they really didnt lose any key contributing pieces..and when we gave our guys up..we didnt really either..kwame was the only one starting at the time and that wasnt cause he was good..its cause we had an injured chris freaking mihm backing him up..

  63. Drink the Haterade says:

OK seriously, RJ should be still sending 25% of his annual pay to J Kidd!

  64. Justin Solomon says:

I noticed the shoutout to CGF, where has that dude been?

  65. Bron42 aka Had Springs Before Slamball says:

if the spurs get sheed now…..wrap…I personally hate RJ him bein here wit the nets while bein completely soft and think hes overrated but if he knows his role, he really just bumped the spurs back up a notch. The sad part right now, is if your chris paul, your thinkin “WTF, and we can’t get rid of any of our bench but the spurs just gave away a bag of nachos and got RJ?” I still say teh gasol trade is worse since he was already a borderline allstar traded for crittenton who is a waste and kwame. RJ isn’t a star.

and whats with this lakers team of the decade crap? you need to cut that shit out now, your gonna lose one of your glue guys, bynum is and will be ass and other teams are gonna get better. Orlando lost by sheer inexperience. Its not like you dominanted games straight through the playoffs.

  66. the cynic says:

WOW what a move. Fantastic move by the Spurs, of course they now have no bigs on the team outside of Duncan

  67. dagwaller says:

    Haha, Bron, good post.

I love how teams are consolidating the stars – makes it less of a crapshoot. Wonder what the Bucks’ plans are…?

  68. LAballer says:

relax bron..u sound like another bitter one..son just cause your boy bron couldnt get passed the team we beat 4-1 in the finals even after the refs literally tried to give em a couple games doesnt mean u need to get your panties in a bunch..

ok we didnt “dominate”..im ok with that..we dominated the shit out of the playoffs last year and couldnt win the finals..the celtics didnt dominate shit last year and almost lost in the 1ST ROUND but they got the chip right? so dominate or not..at the end of the day..its the team with the trophy that matters..all that other bullshit is just that..bullshit..

and your rant on us losing this piece and that piece and bynum being trash..sounds like more hope than anything else..lets wait n see what happens before we get all ahead of ourselves..i dont see the lakers losing ground on a squad after the momentum of the championship..plus they made 4 mill extra for EVERY HOME GAME in the finals..i think we doing ok with the finances even tho our city isnt..someone get the terminator out of office and legalize bud PLEASE

  69. c-viz says:

    @ kdizzle

ur buggin, RJ will be the 2nd/3rd option. parker will facilitate and stop taking a beating in the paint. if manu comes back good, they have a top Five 1-2-3 combo in the league AND Duncan AND Mason, Finley, HIll. all they need is some help in the paint. The Lakers don’t match up too well against that team if they fill that hole in the paint.

  70. LakeShow84 says:

If RJ dont hit his 3’s this trade is all for naught..

i smell desperation for young blood..

  71. LakeShow84 says:

But dont forget the problem wasnt bodies.. the problem was TD’s knees (after a whole years rest) and Manu’s ankle..

  72. Kevin "Nostradamus" Love says:

Sorry to break this to bringing up the scenarios of whom the Spurs can add with the mid-level. The Spurs are in the luxury tax by 4.5 million and will probably not add another big salary because the Spurs as a small market team rarely can afford to pay the tax.

This is hindsight but I think the Lakers already won “Team of the decade”, because this decade(2000-2009)in terms of the NBA is over. The next champion would be counted towards the next decade. 4 World Championships and 6 Western Conference championships. 4-2 vs. the Spurs in the playoff series this decade.

  73. LFan says:

    The Spurs are done.

Unless you’re ready to compete against the Lakers in the West, your moves mean nothing.

The Spurs picked up a scorer, so what? The biggest need for anyone in the l who wants to compete against the Lakers is size, and the Spurs didn’t bring any in, they just gave it away.

  74. doc says:

@laballer-Ha Bron dont even fuck with Lebron. Why dont u stop using that line as a comeback. It played out a million times ago.I dont like RJ at all but bottomline is he can contribute greatly for the Spurs and if Manu come back healthy they gonna have to be seen.Pop and them get it done in the front office.

  75. LakeShow84 says:

And whose going to play Center now?? Dont tell me TD cuz TD is the best POWER FORWARD ever.. Not the best center.. at his age he needs a competent center to take the pounding off of him in the West..

Milwaukee really made that trade for a servicable backup for Bogut.. and they got it..

  76. OC says:

Awesome trade, but I hate to see Bowen go out like that. He’s what made the Spurs defense click. If Gooden is still backing up Tim and Ian Mahinmi can stay healthy, that’s one damn good team right there.

Just when you thought the Spurs were done, front office pulls off another great move.

    Let the haterade flow.

  77. rangerjohn says:

the problem with the spurs was not duncans knees, it was manus ankles and a pour matchup with the mavs. add RJ to the mix and the mavs get beat with no manu and duncans knees.

i love this trade but there are still IFs, like does gooden come back or sign elsewhere? is mahinmi going to be a bust or will he get some minutes.

there are still rumors about camby but they gave up the only pieces they had to get jeferson so no camby. i think the best bet is sign gooden, and get r wallace. if thomas gets a buy out bring him along too. i dont think bowen has more then about 10 MPG left so im not real concerned there.

  78. Kevin "Nostradamus" Love says:

spurs will probably not sign anyone with the mid-level this year, they are already 4.5 million into the luxury tax. That’s a lot for a small market team. Unless Sheed is willing to take the 1.9M vet exception and Gooden looks like he might get somewhere close to the Mid-Level with someone else since he took a buy-out and nobody has his “Bird Rights”.

  79. Ian says:

isnt it funny how the only ones sayin this trade means nothing are laker fans.

laballer bro i dont think you can say you guys are the team of the decade that cutoff point to count titles is a bit off does the season 99-00 count or is it the 09-10? we won more games , never missed the playoffs and were title contenders all the years you guys werent. now im not sayin you cant make a case for your team im just sayin i have a good one for my team also.

  80. russ says:

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AuO8hLlSu_FBNggZnykdAp68vLYF?slug=aw-wasmintrade062309&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

new trade. foye and miller to the wiz for the 5th pick

  81. LFan says:

The Laker fan are the ones saying this trade means nothing, because we’re the ones that see the team to beat on a daily basis and know what it’ll take to beat them. RJ on the Spurs will not beat the Lakers.

Again, they’re RIDICULOUSLY short on solid big men at the moment, and like was said, they need a 5 to take the pounding off Duncan.

The only way this puts them atop the West, or even in the running to be atop the West, is if the Lakers lose both Odom and Ariza.

  82. LFan says:

And team of the decade would have to start 00-01.

  83. rangerjohn says:

um last i checked a decade was 10 yrs which means 99-09 not 01-11. now lakers fans are predicting what they cant see in 2011?

  84. D. Robinson is yolk says:

RangerJohn is correct decades are from ‘80-’89 ‘90-’99 and ‘00-’09 which if you count them out is 10 years….like you say team of the eighties and team of the nineties. Sorry to say technically speaking the Spurs won one chip in the ‘98-’99 season which is consider the nineties by definition. So next year is a start to a new decade in terms of NBA language.

  85. K Dizzle says:

    @ c-vis

    posts like yours kill me
    1. RJ ain’t the 2nd or 3rd option. Let’s get that clear
Tony P is your first option. He’ll run the one man break and take it to the tin. If he can’t, they’ll dump it in to Tim. When the double team comes, he’ll kick it to Manu or, at that point, find a slashin RJ. How you even have him as the 2nd option is where “amazin really happens”
    2. “If Manu comes back” – If he ain’t healthy, then this trade means jack. Spurs showed they really can’t win without him. Kobe won without Shaq. Can Tim win without DRob or Manu?
    3. “All they need is size” – If that was so easy to get, every team would have a Dwight or Gasol. Spurs are over the cap and haven’t even made Gooden an offer yet. More size gone. Unless they prayin for BJ Mullens to fall to them in the draft, then blossom like Wes Unseld, then yeah, size is gonna be an issue out west. How bout that Scola deal now?

    @ Ian
Basically, it’s what have you done lately so I’m puttin my vote in for LA as team of the decade. I know how you’ll vote so we’ll just agree to disagree
And you can’t tell me you’d rather have Oberto, Bowen and Thomas than Marc Gasol, Crittenton, Kwame, 2 1sts and a 2nd pick. Not even close. Memphis was a salary dump too. We just got a better player. RJ was supposed to be an all-star, he just went to shit after Kidd left, Pau did the heavy lifting in Memphis, got the hell out, now Spanish players avoid that city like the swine flu

Oh you mean over the last decade. Lmao. I’m done like the Spurs for that one.

  88. Bill Bixby says:

Look at the defensive laker fans bringing nothin but hate. LOL

    Someone’s scurrrrrred!

you are right that is being selective by laballer sayin last decade when they just won one and erases the 99 title.

wow dizzle did you really write this
“2. “If Manu comes back” – If he ain’t healthy, then this trade means jack. Spurs showed they really can’t win without him. Kobe won without Shaq. Can Tim win without DRob or Manu?”
so duncan is the one that has to prove something?? dude duncan has won with completly different teams NOW its manu and robinson so if he wins again its lets see if he can win without jefferson?? man i dont even know what that comment means? can duncan win without manu? yes he did can he win without robinson ? yes he did. now can kobe win without gasol?? isnt this the type of question you asked?

and what have you done for me lately man
titles 3-3 plus being one of the top teams all those years no way the lakers are the team of the decade and if we go by titles alone this seasons decides who wins that.

    can jordan win without pippen?
    magic without jabbar?
    bird without mchale?
you see i can only name one other star for those players just like you did kobe but you had to bring up 2 for duncan.
hey can kobe win without fisher???

  91. ponky_alolor says:

Bottom line, spurs management do a good job assembling that team. They still have line-up and health issues but at least they really get down to re-tooling.

Next step is to get Duncan a decent big. Damn if he gets one it’s another Lakers Spurs showdown in the West.

Teams like our Cavs and Hornets need to take notice.

  92. Danny says:

seriously, this is a great move. Richard Jefferson would be better than lamar odom in his role if he were in LA. Remember, this is a guy who once put up 25pts a game. underrated-

  93. Lady Luck says:

The Bucks trade Oberto to Detroit for Amir Johnson.

  94. Amos Leak says:

I keep telling people Spurs always finds a way to bounce back after a rough season..and they end up going far..let’s talk about far enough to win the whole thing..and that’s where RJ just stepped in…the Bucks..i ain’t got no words..what are they doing to themselves they just brought in three guys that are legit players..but time is surely slowing down on them in the league. Maybe 4 the cap space later in 2 years when they leave and they pick up on someone else.

  95. K Dizzle says:

    @ Ian

relax, man. it was a joke. If kobe gotta deal with the “Can he win without Shaq” for 5 seasons, I can ask it about Tim once. Of course nobody wins on their own. I’m glad we found a common agreement point. Next year gonna seal the team of the decade.

What is it with Laker fans when it comes to the spurs…

  97. Ian says:

Sorry dizzle u know i get worked up talkin spurs not like ranger but still

  98. LaBob says:

“What is it with Laker fans when it comes to the spurs…”

Easy – your team couldn’t defend a Championship 1 time this decade, usually losing to the Lakers. The Lakers did twice (so far) and usually stomped the Spurs on the way.

The Lakers being worried about the Spurs with another perennial Lakers bashee – Richard Jefferson – joining is a joke.

Here is a June 27th post on lakersNation about The Pistons making a hard run for both Ariza and Odom. While the Spurs have acquired R.J. and now “Da Beast,” from Pitt, as well as also a deadly shooter from Miami. Now all they need is a big, in order to have “The Machine,” up and running again. So the Lakers better look for more help than just an aging Kid!
