Hedo Turkoglu is About to Get PAID (and not by Orlando)

Hedo Turkoglu’s agent Lon Babby told the Orlando Sentinel that his guy is planning on opting out of the final year of his contract because interest for the 6-10 forward will be “robust.” That, of course, is code for “Hedo is going to get PAID.”

And why wouldn’t he? He’s built a rep as a big shot taker/maker who can score from all over the floor and for a guy who supposedly plays no D, it looked like he was frustrating Kobe whenever he was matched up on him. His height and length seemed to give Bryant more trouble than did Mickael Pietrus or Courtney Lee, but one would assume that Hedo wasn’t chasing Bryant more because he was so important to the Magic’s offense on the other end of the floor.

I think Turkoglu is great – I was calling for the Sixers to deal Andre Miller for him after Jameer Nelson got hurt before the rest of the League figured out how good he is. Hedo would clearly be a great addition to a good team in need of a second or third scorer. He’s due to make $7.3 million next season, but will likely get a lot more on the free agent market. With Dwight, Rashard Lewis and Nelson tied up in large, long-term deals, it will be tough for the Magic to keep him.

He better find the RIGHT team if he’s still looking to win and NOT looking to just get paid. The reason for his success to me is more because of the system he was in than anything.

  2. Dennis Castro says:

PC, Iguodala and our #17 pick for Jameer and whatever salary matches. Thoughts?

  3. Patrick Cassidy says:

Nah, as much as I like Jameer, I don’t think I’d do that. There are too many PGs in this draft who could potentially be better than Nelson and way cheaper. I think I’d rather roll the dice on a guy like Eric Maynor or Ty Lawson than give up Iguodala for Nelson. If we’re going to deal Dre, I think we can probably get more.

  4. Kobeef says:

Sign and trade Hedo (10mil per) and Gortat ($5 mil per) to Toronto for Bosh.

Orlando addresses it’s lack of low post scoring (here’s looking at you Dwight) and also moved Rashard back to his natural position as an oversized PF.

    Orlando starts
    PG – Jameer
    SG – Pietrus
    SF – LEwis
    PF – Bosh
    C – Dwight

Toronto moves it’s “better as a second banana” star and gets a legit playmaker/shooter at SF (Hedo) can move Bargs to his natural position (PF) and gets some MUCH needed toughness at C with Marcin “The HAmmer” Gortat. Toronto starts.

    PG – Calderon
    SG – Parker
    SF – Hedo
    PF – Bargnani
    C – The HAMMER!

  5. s.bucketz says:

@ #4..thas actually a real good deal…not to sound racist but i think that t dot line up is a lil too light-skinnded to make it n e wher in this league…that sounded very racist
plus i think they need an upgrade at 2…if ur sister could rock you you should not be starting in the nba…i dont care how nice ur sister is

  6. knock knock says:

except that toronto becomes horrible once again. And gets orlando into finals again. who the f**ck does a lopsided trade like that

  7. haslem says:

Orlando front office is saying they don’t mind dipping a toe into the luxury tax if they can keep Hedo and keep wining.

  8. Dennis Castro says:

PC, do you think Jameer’s this good because of Lewis, Turk, and Howard? Is that why you’re apprehensive?

I think there are a lot of potentially solid PG’s in this draft, but Jameer’s a proven NBA starting PG. Plus, with dealing Iguodala, it allows Thad to slide back to the 3. So our line up would be:

    PG – Jameer
    SG – Not Willie Green
    SF – Thad
    PF – Brand
    C – Not Dalembert

Obvious holes at the 2 and 5. I would rather have Jameer at the 1 than Iguodala at the 3.

Actually, looking at that lineup, we have some pretty significant holes for a playoff team.

  9. Drink the Haterade (LA LAKERS 09 Champs) says:

@ 5– Anytime you start by saying I don’t want to sound racist. Chances are it will and does.

@ 6– The grizzlies do lopsided trades!

  10. Kobeef says:

    @6
I guess it depends on what you think of Chris Bosh. Obviously you are in the “Bosh is a superstar” camp, which I think is insane.

Bosh is very over rated right now – which is good for Toronto if they take the opportunity to capitalize in a trade.

  11. doc says:

We dont want no dam Hedo.Ill keep Iggy yall tripping. If they aint giving up Dwight then fuck Orlando players.

  12. rangerjohn says:

lmao everyone beat me to it but it bears saying again, #6 memphis makes lopsided trades for sure.

you know i siad it a long time ago, i always liked hedo, and wish he had stayed with the spurs. i dont want the spurs paying him rediculous money to get him back though

  13. Dukesman2000 says:

I would not touch Hedo with a 10 ft pole. He has shown me nothing different from what he showed in Sac Town…consistently inconsistent

  14. Steve Gomez 10a-2p on Hot 104.7 Modesto, CA says:

As much as I love Hedo anyone that gives him a huge LONG-TERM deal will be making a mistake. He’s NOT a franchise player. He’s a boderline all-star. Yeah he’s hit some clutch shots but so has Mario Elie, Steve Kerr, and Robert Horry. Did any of those guys get huge long-term deals?? NOPE. They did have reasonable contracts though.

Plus he’s already 30. He’ll be out of his prime in 2-3 years. He’ll be one of those guys thats eats up a large amount of cap space when he starts to decline. Then everyone will be saying how big it was of a mistake to give him a long-term deal.

If i’m a GM I go no more then 4 years. 10 mill per for the first 2 years then 7 than 6. Maybe a team option for a fifth year at around 5-6 million.

  15. jnuh says:

Raps don’t need to trade Bosh to get Turkoglu. Marion’s contract is coming off the books this year. I would not be surprised at all if he ends up in Toronto.

  16. wiz says:

I have a feeling he will end up in san antonio for some reason………..

  17. QQ says:

Man, the Magic can’t let HEDO GO! He’s our franchise!! he’s the turkish Michael Jordan! Don’t Do it!!!

Also, I wanna make a few side points:

    1. FUCK THIS IMPOSTER OUT THERE!
    2@Dukesman2000 – Eat a cock FAGGOT.

  18. ponky_alolor says:

agree with post 1. Hedo’s game is way better because he’s in the right system. His ballhandling and shotmaking are featured well.

And a long term deal for someone who ALWAYS goes left is a bit risky hahaha. Seriously i think he’d be an average player in a different system. Heck Ariza locked him up during the finals by being physical.

  19. ERIC says:

HEDO is a BEAST on offense, but every open shot the Lakers got was a result of HEDO leaving his man open and not closing out quick enough on the shooter..

I say he’ll stay at the $7-8 million mark but extend it for 4 years.

  20. QQ says:

@Ponky: you need to shut da fuck up! Someone please send his computer a virus!

@Erik: You sound like you might know a little bit, then you go and jam your head up your own ass by saying he only deserves 7-8 Mil… He deserves wayyy more.

And Fuck That Imposter. It actually kinda makes me feel good knowing haters will go this far just to get my attention.

@M – when you read this, tell the IMPOSTER to shut the fuck up!! Power in NUMBERS baby!!!

-The REAL QQ (Not no fucking IMPOSTER).

    BURN IMPOSTER, BURN!!

  21. QQ says:

“you know me, i smoke a blunt when i’m gettin brain/ stick my finger in HIS BUTT while i’m gettin brain!”

“The REAL QQ” remixing a lil wayne mixtape line

  22. QQ says:

@21 (Imposter) LOL, this faggot actually think a poster would write something like that about himself?? Great Job Genius!! You’re a fucking pathetic Piece of SHIT.

BURN THE IMPOSTER, BURN THE IMPOSTER!!!

    -The REAL QQ

  23. Flip says:

@ 14: Mario Elie, Steve Kerr, and Robert Horry were great role players… Hedo is a guy that has an offence revolving around him. There is a slight difference here….

  24. ponky_alolor says:

@ QQ, relax…Hedo might get paid by magic… yeah i think they should reward him cause he made that system tick. Maybe $10Mill is just about right.

But i also think OTHER TEAMS are jacking up his value, creating a small risk that Orlando might lose him. When these teams get Hedo and fail to place an Orlando system around him, he’ll just be another over-30 average player who cashed out by leaving the team that gave him room to succeed.

You also got to admit that Ariza f*cked his game up in the finals, so much so that the excellent ball movement of the Magic wasn’t there versus the previous rounds.

Last thing while watching Game 5 and seeing Jameer drive inside the paint and DO NOTHING NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE RING, I’d say Rafer could have done a better job. The lakers just covered all the passing lanes and dared him to shoot.

  25. tim says:

Bring him to Detroit, and then have Prince come off as 6th man.

  26. UallDum says:

    U swahili-payling moron goats!

Ariza played 1 good game on Hedo, the others belonged to him. Orlando lost coz Dwight failed to avg over 15 pts for the series as he is so one-dimentional. Also, Shard failed to turn up in cpl of games. My criticism of Hedo is too many BS turnovers!

DWN with the NBA – the NBA where Kobe’s wife should sit on my poley of poleys.

  27. Seven Duece says:

Hedo hasnt’ been consistent on offense or better than occasionally good on defense pretty much his whole career. He’s got a wealth of offensive skills, but his decision making is haywire. He goes to the rack soft for his size, doesn’t block shots and tries for the home run play too often for the results he gets. He’s a good player, but not worth a long term deal and definitely NOT worth an eight figure per year salary.

They can give that money to LO, who can do everything Hedo can plus play D. Hopefully, the Magic get a low post player who can help out. That Toronto trade mentioned earlier sounds good – for Orlando.

  28. Stephen says:

Hedo will end up in Toronto, mark my words. Hedo and Colangelo had dinner together last time Orlando was in Toronto and it was a very positive meeting with the understanding that Hedo will opt out after this year so Toronto can sign him. With Marion coming off the books Toronto has enough money to pursue Hedo and there aren’t many teams willing to pay him $10 mil a season for 4 years. Hedo also loves the city and it’s Turkish fan base.

  29. QQ says:

Pokey AND Seven Dueces – I need you to shut the fuck up. Str8 up, jam a cock in your mouth, and SHUT DA FUCK UP.

  30. QQ says:

If i’m a GM, I give Hedo (Turkish MJ) 14-18mill a year. Why you ask, you stupid Son of a WHORE, because da nigga is RAWWW!!

Ariza is ok, but believe me, he ain’t all that. He got lucky as fuck in the 3rd quarter of game 4, and aside from that, he didn’t really do shit against the Magic. I’m a magic fan, but if we’re gonna point fingers at who cost us the championship, I’m gonna start with Rashard. Dude had a couple decent games, but was primarily invisible the rest of the series.

  31. QQ says:

    @Ponkey da bitch

But you talking shit about my boy HEDO – Fuck No you stupid SON of a CUNT. I WILL FUCK YOU UP. I’ll eat your children, I’ll fuck your mother. Shitt, I’ll fuck your father. I’LL FUCK YOUR BROTHER. THEN I’LL MAKE YOU TASTE IT.

HEDO DA GAWD! HE RAW. Pay dat motheaFUkkkin man some $$$$$!!

  32. Joseph says:

Hedo is the Orlando Magic’s best offensive player, in addition to being their most important player.

He’s the kind of player who can go 0 for 11 from the field and still be absolutely vital to making the team function (we saw this in Game 3 in Cleveland and several times throughout the playoffs). Their offense is an absolute train wreck w/o him on the floor (witness the 3rd quarter in gm 4 of the finals).

The Magic would have never made it out of the first round of the playoffs without his clutch shot in Game 4 in Philly and they would be lucky if they get out of the first round next year if he is signs elsewhere.

  33. Nadim says:

Ariza is one of those player that everyone says is underrated so much so much that he inevitably become wildy overrated (kind of like James Posey). He’s long and quick on defense, but he is overrated in that category(Carmelo and Hedo did whatever they wanted). His offensive game consists of slashing and shooting wide open 3’s. And that’s basically his game…

If anyone signs him for anything over the mid-level exception, then they’re overpaying him.

  34. QQ says:

I like what joseph said. I will now, in effect, give you “cyber brain”.

Sit Back and Relax… You’re gonna love this “cyber head”!

  36. Joey says:

QQ has never gotten laid. i can tell

  37. Nadim says:

In addition to the Magic, Hedo would be a nice fit for Houston and Portland.

In Houston, they don’t really have a guy who can pass the ball as aaron brooks is more of a scorer. At this point, especially because they have Shane Battier’s defense, Hedo would fit in better than Ron Artest. On the other hand, Ron-Ron did bring in a new sense of toughness. So you could be risking some intangibles by letting go of the Queens native.

I think he’d also fit in nicely with Portland because he would be able to relieve Brandon Roy from doing all of the lifting in the fourth quarter and he can run an offense better than any point guard they have.

But there’s no question Orlando needs Hedo!

  38. Mark says:

agree with Nadim. Hedo would fit in very nicely in Houston and portland.

  39. QQ says:

    his name says it it:

HEDO as in HE-DOUGH as in HE-MONEY.

Dat right, dat nigga is $$$$

Pay da man. And all yall haters eat a dick. I get more butt than an ashtray (female and male – I’m a bi-guy)!

  40. QQ says:

    LOL at the impostor.

  41. QQ says:

Attention: all the post from 1 – 39 from ‘QQ’ in not ME.

    It’s still the impostor.

Funny seeing the bitch play it out like he’s two person, using the BURN THE IMPOSTOR! I’ve been saying.

One little detail you forgot though: You’ve been using ‘IMPOSTER’. All my posts talking bout you is ‘IMPOSTOR’. It’s an ‘O’.

    Got ya, bitch. HAHAHA.

  42. Jason says:

I think Turkoglu’s good but the benefit of having Howard setting screens for him goes overlooked. Howard is an amazing screener, he’s strong, he has more than enough agility to square up any perimeter defender; without him I’m not sure Turkoglu gets to the hoop as much. I think Turkoglu would be a solid player anywhere but I doubt he’ll be able to transfer his full production level from Orlando to another team.

  43. Da_Griff says:

Turk is a good player in that system. He needs to stay in a similar system that allows him to be the ball handler half the game.

The only other teams he can do that with are: Phoenix, San Antonio and Golden State.

The suns are the only team with the trade chips to make this work.

If Turk goes anywhere else, he’s done. He’ll get paid, he’ll get 40 mil over 4 years, or 50 over 5, and someone will suffer for it down the track.

  44. Seven Duece says:

Word is the Magic are going to resign him even if it puts them over the luxery tax. This is not a good look for them, truly. He’s okay, but not Lamar Odom. Plus, giving him top dollar inhibits signing Gortat potentially. The Magic always do dumb moves like this, i.e. Isaac Austin, Armstrong, Horace Grant, Rashard Lewis. Just because someone fits well on your team doesn’t mean you need to overpay them to stay. He’s not getting 10Mil anywhere else.

  45. junwah22 says:

ORLANDO HAD THEIR BEST CHANCE AT WINNING LAST YEAR-THANKS FOR COMING!!!
