Kevin Love’s Breaking News: Coach McHale Is Gone

Kevin Love

The Timberwolves’ brass told Kevin McHale that they can’t deal with his current job status because they’re too focused on the Draft. But Kevin Love isn’t too busy. Late last night, he tweeted that he was upset about his coach/mentor getting the boot, not realizing that he was actually breaking the news of McHale’s firing too.

“Today is a sad day…Kevin McHale will NOT be back as head coach next season.”

Since that tweet, Love gave a quasi-apologetic update, “P.S. I am not a breaking news guy…I had no idea no one knew..I’ll tell them I stayed at a holiday inn express last night. Always works….”

Ideally McHale is one of those Jerry Sloan-type coaches who still hasn’t figured out where the power button is on a computer. (A quick search for “McHale” on Twitter only produced some guy named Joel McHale who is uncomfortably biting his tee shirt in his thumbnail picture.)

So if Coach McHale isn’t too computer savvy, is it possible that the news still hasn’t reached him? And if that’s the case, then maybe they can pretend like Love’s Twitter feed was overtaken by a hacker/imposter.

The last thing that Minny’s ownership wants to do is to allow this instance to turn into something bigger, something that could sour their key pieces on the management. Remember just how close McHale and Al Jefferson are. According to an AP article today, Big Al told reporters in April that he’d be pretty upset if McHale was no longer with the organization.

“If there’s some kind of way that he leaves the Timberwolves,” Al Jefferson said, “that’s when I’ll be very, very upset.”

Nice work, Love.

that pic looks like mchales tryna teach love how to dance

  2. QQ says:

Love should come to the magic in exchange for Hedo. Hedo is surely going to demand more money and bolt, so rather than get nothing back, getting back Love at least makes sense.

    Burn the Impostor!

He had lost any goodwill he had with the fans. Regardless of how the players felt, casual fans in Minnesota just were not going to come back to the Target Center until they saw real change with this club. Unfortunately that meant getting rid of McHale as a coach. Even though he was a decent coach in my opinion.

  4. doc says:

I really like him as a coach.

  5. E$ says:

Twolves have sucked since KG left. Now they give visiting players standing ovations……

  6. YOUNGFED says:

Joel McHale is the host of The Soup on E! (my current favorite running tv show). That’s a funny dude.

  8. dk says:

Sorry ass wanna be champ Bron was walking around the Y today. He was pimping a MVP t shirt. I would never were a meaningless tshirt like that nor would Kobe Bryant, what a tool. Ill blame immaturity.

  9. ticktock6 says:

I always thought he looked like the Cigarette Smoking Man who used to be on the X-Files…

  10. Big V says:

    Can coaches be traded?

  12. dk says:

I mean I guess hes playing it up for the New Yorkers since they want him so bad and once again torturing the faithfull loving fans of Cleavland. Ill bet hes gonna be a controlling husband too, sicko.

  13. YOUNGFED says:

    @Big V
Good, I knew I wasn’t trippin’ even though i might be a lil to young to fully remember.

  14. Kobeef says:

My guess is that McHale already knows this but the Wolves have been keeping things quiet. There is no way that the players were told before McHale…or at least you’d like to think that.

  15. BNZA says:

    Twitter sucks.

It´s a self marketing tool for fashion victims, with even less substance than anything on TV. But still with the potential to be as misleading and destructive as Fox News.

If there was a slight chance McHale could have stayed, Love buried it in the most ironic way. I never thought Kevin Love is that dumb. Shouting out a rumor somebody sold him as a fact, just to kill the guy he likes.

NBA players should not be allowed to use Twitter. They are not aware of the responsibility it brings and how it shows their lack of respect for the game. Like Shaq and other players twittering at halftime, wtf?

You get paid millions to help a team win games and find time to scribble messages on your lifestyle phone WHILE YOU TRY TO WIN THE GODDAMN GAME?! Is that how serious players take it?

  16. Dagomar says:

Classless, classless move by Love. McHale deserved to go, but even an idiot should be able to understand that this was the organization’s announcement to make (or McHale’s). Maybe Love actually hates McHale and is trying to make his exit as bitter as possible, because that’s the only thing that would make sense here.
