The top five: Griffin to L.A., Thabeet to Memphis, Harden to OKC, Tyreke to Sacramento, and Rubio to Minnesota. Onto the next five:
BURTON: Why would Minnesota take Jonny Flynn? You’re basically using a Top-6 pick on a backup, because Rubio and Flynn won’t start in the same backcourt. (Or maybe they will if David Kahn keeps trading all his guards away.) And aren’t you just setting Rubio up to potentially fail if Flynn comes in and bulldogs the starting job away from him? That’s like the Pistons taking Darko at #2 to play PF, then Chris Bosh at #3.
BURTON: Golden State ruins every Knicks fans world by taking Stephen Curry, and the boos are cascading down from the stands. Perfect compliment to Monta Ellis in that he’s got the outside shot while Monta can attack the basket. Golden State’s backcourt will be small, but quick as sh*t and they’ll get BUCKETS.
KATZ: The Wolves loved Jonny during his workout, so I’m inclined to say that they’d send Rubio off in a trade if they had to lose one. Plus, his name might command a bigger package in exchange. But word out of the green room in the last couple of minutes is that the T-Wolves were really high on Rubio too. And now the meticulously-coiffed Ric Bucher is telling us that Minnesota is planning on keeping them both. In what circumstance could his hair move?
Or, will David Kahn pull the trigger and make Bucher stuff his foot in his mouth now that Curry is off the board for the Knicks? Had Steph been there, Donnie Walsh would have had an easy decision. But now, the Knicks might be willing to pay a bigger price to get Rubio from Minnesota.
KATZ: Does the Jordan Hill pick mean that the Knicks are trading David Lee?
We’re following Kevin Love’s reactions on twitter. “jordan hill???? what???? haha” I guess he isn’t too worried about pissing off a guy who looks like the Predator at 6-10.
BURTON: Of course Stern messes with the NY fans by straining to read the card and pretending he doesn’t know who Jordan Hill is. At this point he’s just eliciting boos for fun. Hill works for that system if he can rebound, but he’s at least got the energy and is a better offensive player than David Lee.
KATZ: Jennings goes 10 to Milwaukee, so Pat’s dream of Brandon Jennings in a Sixers uniform won’t come true. And forget that whole statement from Bill Duffy. Though Jennings told us yesterday that he wanted to shake Stern’s hand “no matter when” Duffy convinced him that it would be better to miss that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fear of embarrassment.
