NBA trades: Vince Carter to Orlando, Amar’e to Golden State

Amar'e Stoudemire, Dime #14
Two major trade rumors in the air right now, both of which are somewhere between “serious discussions” and “almost done.”
* Vince Carter to Orlando for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie and Courtney Lee. The Nets would then use their #11 pick to get Terrence Williams and shore up the two-guard position. Good move for Orlando, although I believe I’d already heard about this somewhere months ago.
* Amar’e Stoudemire to Golden State for Andris Biedrins, the 7th pick, and either Brandan Wright or Marco Belinelli. If Wright is the third guy and he’s actually as good as advertised (and if he can stay healthy), that’s not a terrible move for Phoenix since they seem dead-set on giving away their best player. (Yes, if I had the choice, I would take Amar’e on my team over Steve Nash. STAT has somehow become one of the most hated-on guys in the League, but he’s still a beast.)

These are good trades. This makes Orlando a huge problem in the East. Carter is that 2 guard they really need desperately, unfortunately they would actually need him to attack the basket, if they could keep him Lewis and Turkoglu, that team is a problem. I think Amare would fit perfectly in Golden State, they may even be able to actually win some games and get in the playoffs with him. The Nets and Suns both need to rebuild anyway and I do think the Suns are looking to trade Nash, or is he a free agent already, they just may not re-sign him.

Yeah, AB, you nailed that VC trade earlier (and I was right there with you on a comment, as I recall), although you got pooh poohed by some at the time. Vince is heading home and probably very happy.
I think that is a nice trade for Phoenix. Biedrins is a young rebounding stud, plus a couple of other decent pieces.
Great pre-draft stuff!

i wouldn’t be too pissed if the dubs did this with belinelli. We got too many wings. I’m a biedrins fan, he works hard and plays well, but stat would be a pretty good fit with our run and gun team. That being said, I still wouldn’t be sure if that makes us a playoff team.

LB says:
If the Amare trade goes through, it definitely means the Suns are in full-on rebuilding mode. I doubt that Steve Nash, being the professional that he is, will publicly demand a trade though. Still, I do hope the Suns trade him to a contender out of loyalty to him for reviving the franchise (even though I understand the team has to look out for its best interests)

How does Phoenix only get that for Amare?!? They coulda got so much more. 7th pick in a terrible draft, a solid C in Biedrins and that’s (basically) it?!? Wow…
Also, QQ probably aint commented on Vince yet cuz he’s too busy celebrating. That move is trouble for my Celtics

I did the math and the Magic are at about $65 million in contracts (over the cap) through 2011 with the Carter trade so I am not sure how they can sign Hedo.

Nooooo!!!!! Just cuz Courtney Lee missed a game-winning lay-up that could have changed the championship aspirations of your franchise, you trade him away!?!? Damn! Kids, dont be like Courtney, practice your lay-ups…..But seriously, it seems like everyone is trying to win RIGHT NOW! I mean, Vince prolly still has two moderate seasons left in him, but why would you trade away the post-season ROY?

Michael isnt dead.. Hes in the hospital..
And the vince trade is a DONE DEAL.. No more Hedo = no more ballsy game saving buckets.. but now they have premier permieter player to go with Shard and Howard.. Shit thats a good big 4 for Boston & Orlando..
Boston’s Garnett, Pierce, Allen & Rondo
Vs
Orlando’s Howard, Lewis, Carter & Nelson
Damn thats going to be the series in the east.. Sorry but James, Williams and O’Neal cant hang with that..

Wow the East is now stronger than the West and we have five teams that can win it all and the rest are just playing for draft picks!
1.Orlando(If they resign Hedo)

3.LA
4.Boston
5.Spurs

Curtis G says:
I don’t know why everyone thinks that this trade automatically means Hedo’s out. Hedo’s natural position is at the three but he can play effectively at the two and one. Vince’s natural position is the two but he too can play effectively at the three. If Hedo stays, Orlando will have a starting lineup of Nelson (1), Carter (2), Turkoglu (3), Lewis (4), and Howard (5). That’s a serious lineup kid! I think this move was made more to entice Hedo to stay while allowing them to one-up Cleveland’s move. Of course the move also offers insurance just in case Hedo bolts but he would be a fool to pass up the offer to be part of a 3-4 year dynasty… which is exactly what that lineup has the possibility of being!

Cody says:
Hey,
I am expecting Steve Francis to land up in Cleveland too. So Cleveland got solid starting line up.
1. Shaq
2. Varejao
3. Lebron
4. Francis
5. Mo williams
Shaq/ Zyduras
Varejao/ Lorenzo Wright/ JJ Hickson
Lebron James / Kinsey
Steve Francis / Delonte West
Mo Williams / Gibson
Vs.
Howard/ Garrity
Hedo / Ryan Anderson
Lewis/ Michael Pietrus
Carter/ JJ Reddick
Nelson/ Lue
Cleveland easily Defeats the depth of Orlando. I am pretty sure Cavs are getting rid off Jawad Williams or Joe Smith. Even Szercbiak may be removed. So I am expecting some agents who can be benched in Shooting Guard or Point Guard. They got too many players for Point Forward than they can use. Same with Shooting forward as you can see Lebron logging 38 mins on average.
June 26th, 2009 at 4:52 am
knock knock says:
seriously, why are all these cavs fans posting up all these comments. As soon as you got shaq, you think that you match up THAT much better over Orlando. Sorry, but common sense says that the cavs are done, championship window closed.

‘QQ goes hard like carmello / QQ make these niggas look yellow
QQ livin big like amar’e / QQ makes these niggas look sorry’
‘Also, QQ probably aint commented on Vince yet cuz he’s too busy celebrating. That move is trouble for my Celtics’
Haha. Made me laugh yall.
Yall know that I’m not a big VC fan. He’s getting almost the same hate from as TMac. I call them the ‘Soft as pudding cousins’ remember?
This is why:
1. Carter is a gunner. Even with all the ‘He is now mature’ talk, a gunner will always have that rabid urge to shoot the ball. It never goes away completely.
2. Carter, IMO, doesn’t play with heart. I dunno, but I prefer solid players that play hard over superstars that are soft.
3. Chemistry. Hmmm.. Will he and Dwight mesh? Will he accept his role? How about Turk, our fourth quarter guy, how will he play with a wing scorer by his side?
Of course, this is good news for the fact the my Magic are now really gearing up for the chip.
Teams don’t make moves like these if they ain’t getting ready to dominate. That is ALWAYS a good sign.
About VC though… I REALLY FUCKING HOPE HE’LL GET IT THIS TIME.
