I deserve an XL Carpe Diem T-shirt because I’m putting my bid in early and because I’m a Lamar Odom fan…you know how tough it is to back him while he goes up and down on a sugar rollercoaster all year long? I love him though, glad he finally got his ring. Keep up the good work Dime.

I truly feel that this shirt was sent to you to be sent to me…

I deserve a a Carpe Diem Shirt because on a “casual sneaker” day in my office last week while everyone else was wearing their semi-professional walking shoes and others were their all white nikes, I was rocking proud my Kobe IV “Carpe Diem” kicks in honor of Mamba’s 4th Ring. I also live and breathe Kobe Bryant. That and the fact that the purple lettering on the Shirt will really bring out my eyes. Thanks Dime Mag!

Sweet English says:
Because i have entered every damn give away you have done for donkeys years (including those piss poor etch-a-sketch Jason Terry kicks) and because out of pure love for Basketball I had to stay up for 2 a.m tip offs. Whcih often meant staying up till 4.30. Which means taking 7 days off work just to watch the games. Even the days for games 6 and 7. Better safe than sorry. And then, after all that effort, had no one to talk to about the damn games except you guys at Dime in Smack.
Basketball is a loveless game here in the U.K.
You stay up til ungodly hours of the morning to watch every play of the finals (except game three overtime, it was daylight when i fell asleep) and the next day at the pub no one knows what you’re talking about.
I am Alone. Show me some love Dime. Show me some love.

Kevin says:
Dime issue number 22. “Driven” A close up of Kobe’s grim expression is on the cover. The darkness in this cover, in addition to Kobe’s grim expression and the real-life darkness that surrounded his life during those years made this a monumental cover for me. As a fan, it was hard seeing him go through his adversity, and the fact that the man was literally playing for his life (it was unknown whether he’d go to jail or not) at the time. To lose the privilege of watching one of the greatest of our generation play to the possibility of incarceration was something I couldn’t express in words.
This is not the first time a Laker has gone through public scrutiny. Flash back to 1991, when Magic Johnson had to abruptly end his illustrious NBA short due to contracting AIDS. Being a Lakers fan has its many ups and downs in being a fan, and I deserve this shirt as it would symbolize the many years of dedicating many Thursday nights and Sunday nights to watching the Lakers play. As we miss hearing Chick Hearn’s voice say “This game’s in the refrigerator: the door is closed, the lights are out, the eggs are cooling, the butter’s getting hard, and the Jell-O’s jigglin!” We have now grown accustomed to listening to Stu Lantz do the commentary.
“Hunger defines me. I’ve always been hungry, but now my appetite has risen to a new level. My will is greater than ever. The motivation to succeed runs through me like blood.” Kobe opens the article in Dime #22 with those words. And those emotions were on full display this past postseason, as it manifested itself into that snarling face he adopted halfway into the playoffs.
So please, send me Carpe Diem shirt and I will rock the hell outta this shirt!!!! Size Large. Thank you!
“Scito hoc super omnia….Tempus neminem non manet….Carpe diem.”

Ive gotten in fights over my lakers and won. Ive been a fan since I came out the p***Y in 86 but i remember the bad days like have cedric ceballos as our best player and being up 2-0 against the suns in 93 and losing 3 straight games including 2 at home. I remember having antonio harvey as a power forward which was tragic. I remember when in 94 we had randy fund and magic as coach. ive been there for the good times and the bad times. I cant find this shirt in vegas so i would really like this shirt in a 3xl please!!!

Jerry says:
When I was a fifth grader in 1996-97 and in my first year or organized basketball. My teacher asked the class to practice letter writing by writing to any company in America. As my passion for basketball was budding, I chose to write to the Los Angeles Lakers. I sent the letter with little to no hope of ever hearing anything back. Three weeks later I received an envelope in the mail from El Segundo, CA. Enclosed in the envelope was a team picture with photocopied autographs in the white border of the picture.
From that moment on I was a die-hard lakers fan. I’ve owned everything from a #25 Eddie Jones Jersey to a Free-Kobe.com t-shirt. I still own and wear my first Lakers piece ever. It is a shooting shirt from the first year the Lakers were sponsored by Nike ( no collar, 2 snap buttons in the middle).
Living in Maryland, there have been so many late nights watching the Lakers play and then having to be in school 6 hours later. The best school night game was the .4 game where i literally woke up every person in my house yelling and running up and down the stairs at least 7 times!
Last year I had the opportunity to do a year of service in LA, and was even more fortunate to attend game 5 of the NBA FINALS. However, we all know how that ended. I was back in Maryland this season but still attended Lakers games in Philly, DC, and NJ and even met Lakers trainer Garry Vitti in Manhattan the day of the Nets Game!
My girlfriend and I booked a trip to LA so we could see some friends we and so she could see the students she tutored ( she did service out there too). I not-so- secretly pushed for our trip to be June 10-16 becuase I knew this would be during the finals. As you all know the finals concluded June 14th and while the Lakers were on the road I was at Yard House (a bar directly across the street from Staples adjacent to the new West Coast ESPN HQ) and was able to rejoice in the streets with what I consider my brotherhood.
I think I deserve the “Carpe Diem” shirt because the cork truly symbolizes the emotion I had on June 14th when the clock hit triple zeroes in Game 5. With or without the shirt I will be a Lakers fan until the day that I die.
PS. Everything I talked about can be verified physically, except for the team photo in 96-97 which can be verified by my mother!
and if I’m so lucky to win a L or XL will graciously work just fine.
Thanks Dime keep up the good work!

No. For one thing, if that was a school paper, it would have been too short. Cmon, school papers are structured with more length. Second, what school paper would be to analyze a magazine cover? Probably a middle school paper, and clearly, a middle school student could not write that. Just because I took a minute to write mine up, don’t hate.
Thanks DIME for the opportunity.

I’ve been a die hard Kobe fan for as long as I can remember. And because this season was the HARDEST for me to watch games. My GF who I live with, has grown to despise NBA games on TV, so watching this season, the playoffs and the finals… it got harder and harder to see games. Had to PVR ‘em and watch them at odd hours… 5am anyone??
I swear it was like going to battle just to see the games. But it was very much worth it!! The Lakers won, Kobe got his ring without Shaq, and you could see the Lakers finally ‘get it’ that they are now a family.
Plus, out of all of ‘em, this shirt, Carpe Diem (yes I knew what it meant a long time ago) is easily my favorite out of all of them that have come out!!

I deserve this shirt on the real just because I am a good dude and nice guy. In a world where nice guys finish last it would be good to be one of the winners. I mean just like everyone I am sure I have my sob stories I could go into but this ain’t about that.
This is more of deserving the shirt for simply doing what is right more times than not and learning from mistakes and trying to live a good life and give and teach others to live a good life as well.
Now I also make no claim that my deeds are more righteous than others, but they are good deeds none-the-less. And on the real it would feel great to win one for the good dudes.
I am just a man who loves GOD, loves his wife and son she is carrying, a teacher of students, and a loyal and faithful son.
Everyday is a day of Carpe Diem for the good guys and I deserve it because I have been, am and will be one of the good guys.
And just like the 4 rings tee I would appreciate the LARGEST SIZE you have to wear the shirt for years to come showing that good guys don’t always finish last or not win.

I deserve a carpe diem tee because I’ve lived by that credo since high school & it would be a great way to show it off. I had one english teacher who was a no nonsense type of guy. when it came to people complaining about crap like how school was boring & how much money they had, he just wrote ”carpe diem, knucklehead” on the board, on the last day of school he basically explained to everyone whether they understood it or not, that we’re too young complain about every single thing in life, just appreciate the little things and they’ll eventually make your day, every day. today as a college student, that speech he gave has so much more of a meaning – sure I can complain about the ridiculous assignments I get, or how expensive tuition is, but the bits & pieces of information I learn each day, along with the relationships I make all help me to ”Seize The Day”

I deserve the shirt because Nike is all I wear. I don’t do anything else. If I’m playing ball, I’m wearing Nikes. This shirt would be great to add to the collection. Also, I’ve been on Dime for a minute now. I was repping Big Al, Pierce, Gomes, and even Gerald Green before we ever got KG and Ray Ray. Loyalty should be rewarded. XL please.

I deserve this AMAZING because as a life-long Lakers fan living, going to school and working in the Cleveland/Akron area I have to deal with bandwagon Cavs fans everyday who will do/say anything to tear down the Lakers (most of whom weren’t on the Cavs until post ’03 and most of whom will be off the bandwagon if he leaves). I lived and died with the Lake Show this season as I have for every season. This would be the perfect shirt to celebrate a great chapter in the odyssey of being a Lakers fan.
Medium, but I would take a large or even small.

I deserve a Carpe Diem T-shirt because I’m a die-hard Lakers fan; this shirt will only add to my collection of Lakers memorabilia. Plus, hands down Kobe is the best player in the league and I have stuck by that for years and years.

This is a very cool shirt, too. Thanks for the contest. As for why I deserve the “Carpe Diem” shirt, I don’t know if I deserve it more than the next Laker fan, but I certainly deserve it more than just any basketball fan. Only a true Laker fan could wear that shirt and appreciate the significance of it — for the franchise and especially this season. What a season it was! Just like the 4-rings Kobe puppet shirt, I think the shirt(s) should go to someone who was there with the team throughout the years… not just this season. But the last seven years especially. THIS team is different than any other and knowing that three of our guys were going to become free agents, that Kobe’s contract was about to be restructured, that Phil might choose not to coach again, and knowing how important it was for it to all come together in 2009 — that’s what that shirt signifies. It’s not just a cool design. It’s a design that encapsulates what the past 7 years have been and what the future of the Lakers will be. I love it. Just as I love Kobe’s 4-ring shirt. And it’s just wonderful to this Laker fan, that such items exist. That can only mean one thing: The Lakers won the championship. Oh yeah they did!! (re: my size. I’m a M, but I’d be happy with any size. It’s a collectible I won’t wear. Thanks again!)

Dear Dime Mag I think I deserve this shirts because I just subscribed magazine to you guy. I really enjoy articles written by all the writers on Dime Mag. I am also a big Laker fan with not that much gear since I don’t have the money to attended the games, buy shirts, jersey, or etc. both my parents work hard each have two jobs and I barely see them all I have is the Lakers to watch. I couldn’t even attended the parade since both my parents have two jobs. I would deeply appreciate if I can have one of those Carpe Diem shirts in XL or XXL. Thank you Dime Mag for taking the time to read my comment.

I am a college student going to Rutgers Newark and I am an LA native. So it would be legit to bring back a little piece of home and sweet sweet victory to show how the lakers do work on the rest of the NBA. And show that Cali is not just rich surfers but damn good ballers.

the reason why i deserve a size(l) carpe diem shirt is that i’ve been a die hard laker since the age of 9 years old when i 1st had my pair of magic johnson converse sneaks. and i also think that kobe bryant is this generation version of mike jordan(sit back a bit lebron) and i work in building full of kobe/laker haters. and it would be even more sweeter to rock the carpe diem shirt since they’re still angry at the fact the lakers are world champs

Back in june last year i was attending a charity function with my life long best friend. The night was going well and the drinks were coming fast. James, my man, seemed nervous. He had been fidgiting with his bow tie all night and wiping his brow.
I could see him at the drinks table, pouring us champagne. I was about to ask him what the problem was, when suddenly there was a huge SMASH, and three ninja’s slid through the shards of broken glass from the skylights. Everyone screamed, we were all running, shots were going off everywhere, i ran for the exit, but suddenlt i froze.
Shit.
James.
This is what he was nervous about. This explained it all. The parrot on the way here, the new toilet seat in the apartment. Of course….
I ran back into the function room. It was entirely empty except for one body lying bloody over the drink table.
‘JAMES!!!!’ i ran towards him.
‘Swe… Sweet…’ he spluttered ‘Its okay sweet its my time…’ He reached limply over to my hand, placed something in it, and clasped my hand around it.
‘Never forget me Sweet… Never…. Maybe *cough cough* you should commermate me with a t-shirt….’ and then, he was gone.
‘Sleep well, my friend’ i muttered. I looked to my hand in which he had closed. It was the the cork. the cork from the bottle of champagne. i turned it over, and on top of it chipped surface it read…..
‘CARPE DIEM’
