Live @ NBA Draft ’09: Picks 11-15

Tyler Hansbrough

Griffin to L.A., Thabeet to Memphis, Harden to OKC, Tyreke to Sacramento, Rubio to Minnesota, Flynn to Minnesota, Curry to Golden State, Hill to New York, DeRozan to Toronto, Jennings to Milwaukee. That’s the top 10. Moving on…

BURTON: Terrence Williams goes 11th to Jersey. Stu Scott tells us that T-Will doesn’t watch ESPN, “so I guess he hasn’t seen his highlights.” Because there are no other sports channels, obviously. Bilas says “He has a chance to be really, really good” for about the 4th time tonight about a prospect. One of the highlights shows Williams shaking Bilas’ hand, and Van Gundy asks, “Why is he sucking up to you?” Bilas comes with the Duke d-bag response: “They all do.” Read More »

Live @ NBA Draft ’09: Picks 6-10

DeMar DeRozan (USC)

The top five: Griffin to L.A., Thabeet to Memphis, Harden to OKC, Tyreke to Sacramento, and Rubio to Minnesota. Onto the next five:

BURTON: Why would Minnesota take Jonny Flynn? You’re basically using a Top-6 pick on a backup, because Rubio and Flynn won’t start in the same backcourt. (Or maybe they will if David Kahn keeps trading all his guards away.) And aren’t you just setting Rubio up to potentially fail if Flynn comes in and bulldogs the starting job away from him? That’s like the Pistons taking Darko at #2 to play PF, then Chris Bosh at #3. Read More »

Blake covers Dime #49

The f***-a-recession opulence that is Earl Clark‘s watch tells us it is about 45 minutes from the start of the draft, and the Dime contingent is all over Madison Square Garden to bring you the coverage.

Andrew Katz is on the media floor right in front of the big stage and next to the Green Room (which, as you know, isn’t actually a room anymore). Pat Cassidy is posted backstage with Jonny Flynn, waiting with our Dime draft diarist to hear his NBA dreams realized. Read More »

A First Look at the Class of 2009

Class of 09

They’re the best-dressed class in recent memory. As you’d expect, Ricky Rubio is rocking the skinny tie and slim Euro suit. I had a professor in college who looked exactly like James Harden does in the pinstripe shirt and bowtie. But all in all, there’s nothing too outlandish. Terrence Williams‘ gray suit has a bit of a shine to it, but it’s nothing to hate on. The most questionable fashion decision has got to be Austin Daye‘s matching baby blue vest and tie. It’s the same color as my couch.

NBA trades: Vince Carter to Orlando, Amar’e to Golden State

Amar'e Stoudemire

Two major trade rumors in the air right now, both of which are somewhere between “serious discussions” and “almost done.”

* Vince Carter to Orlando for Rafer Alston, Tony Battie and Courtney Lee. The Nets would then use their #11 pick to get Terrence Williams and shore up the two-guard position. Good move for Orlando, although I believe I’d already heard about this somewhere months ago.

* Amar’e Stoudemire to Golden State for Andris Biedrins, the 7th pick, and either Brandan Wright or Marco Belinelli. If Wright is the third guy and he’s actually as good as advertised (and if he can stay healthy), that’s not a terrible move for Phoenix since they seem dead-set on giving away their best player. (Yes, if I had the choice, I would take Amar’e on my team over Steve Nash. STAT has somehow become one of the most hated-on guys in the League, but he’s still a beast.)
