The Love is Gone

dime33_bosh
Remember when all Raptors fans were in love with their team, specifically Chris Bosh? These days not so much.

There’s been a definite backlash against Bosh this past year, partly, we’re sure, out of frustration because their team was so disappointing this past season. It appears that the realization that Bosh is most likely best-suited as a second option on a good team has made him a focus of fans’ ire.

The latest example? The recent “Top Ten Reasons Chris Bosh Will Re-Sign” post on RaptorsRepublic.com:

1. Money! Raptors will refuse to pull a sign-and-trade forcing Bosh to get his deal in T.O.
2. MuchMusic will always be glad to have him on, MTV would be like, Who are you again?
3. This is a great city to underachieve and still get respect.
4. Only with the Raptors will he have a chance of being the best player on a team.
5. The less he’s on US national TV, the less the chances of everybody finding out he’s not what he’s cranked up to be.
6. Colangelo will perform the sell-job of his life and in the process earn himself an extension.
7. Who in their right mind would give up a chance to play with Marcus Banks?
8. As part of the deal, Triano will let him call plays and Colangelo will let him make personnel decisions.
9. Soft media. No one in Toronto will question anything he does both basketball-wise or off the court.

…and the #1 reason why Chris Bosh will re-sign in Toronto…drum roll….

10. There’s zero pressure to win.

That last one is tough…

Bosh was and will never be a number 1. That goes for everyone thats ever played in NBA Canada.

  2. dk says:

@ Dime a 10-1 countdown makes more sense but sense, its a about Canadians, it makes sense.

  3. KenAdams says:

LOL. Good stuff. I think the Jazz should sign him after Boozer takes off. Deron, #1 on Jazz, will love having Bosh around as #2. I like Milsap as 6 or 7th man off the bench for energy.

  4. Nick Adams says:

The love isn’t all gone – some fans understand his perspective. At least his not signing will (theoretically) force BC to improve a team that desperately needs it. & if he doesn’t, I’d walk too.

  5. SK says:

Here’s a crazy idea. Instead of trading Bosh, how about they find a supporting cast that isn’t full of below avergage role players and a bunch of spot up jump shooters. Maybe an actual sidekick at the wing that can get to the hoop. Poor Bosh.

  6. Mikey B says:

Jazz can’t sign him he’s not a free agent until next year and boozer is opting out this year.

The best case scenario for the Raptors trade Bosh now or repeat the same mistakes made with TMac and Vince.

Possibly trade scenarios that make sense for both teams

Dallas resign Kidd and Trades Howard and Terry for Bosh and Kapono.

    or

New Orleans packages Posey and West for Kapono and Bosh.

Either way all 3 of these franchises need major shake ups.

  7. Dukesman2000 says:

Banks has tire marks all over his bank from being flung under the bus

  8. Ballin 305 says:

@ dk, once upon a time vince carter was a sure fire #1 player in the T dot

  9. Nick Adams says:

Oh, & 1/2 the posters on that message board are retarded. Not all Toronto Raps fans want him to go, but they all want him to get a decent supporting cast. Clearly, no one guy can do it alone – see LBJ. Chris has seen his team’s personnel decrease in quality, not increase. If it doesn’t improve, he can & should walk. It’s why he signed the contract he did.

  10. Taj says:

    I agree with SK!!

  11. dk says:

@8 I dont believe in once upon a times, I was never force fed fairy tales. I believe and only read, non-fiction. Carter has never done shit but maybe, score the ball. That dont make you a number one.

Oh I forgot he did dunk the ball very well.

  12. Brown says:

The main reason I want the Raps to trade Bosh is to improve the team long-term. Bosh is in the prime of his career and the only way he can get better is if he has a chance to contribute to a winning team, which won’t be in TO. His numbers won’t change, but he’ll be a more important player.

There’s zero chance the Raps wheel-and-deal and put a decent supporting cast around Bosh anytime soon. They don’t have the assets. If Bosh re-signs, he’ll be wasting his prime on a team searching for an identity with below-average talent. The Raps should start rebuilding right now. Trade Bosh, Calderon and, if anyone’s dumb enough to take his contract, Kapono. They should stockpile draft picks and build that way. Bargnani is a 4, not a 5. He’s not the best player to build around, but if they can snag a couple of talented and athletic guys over the next couple years, they should be alright.

    I think that’s a better strategy than Colangelo’s “wait-and-see” approach.

    LEBRON TO TORONTO IN 2010!!!!!!!!!!

    bored….yes I am!!!lol

  14. AB_40 says:

toronto needs vince carter:P nah man just kiddin

  15. POPPI GEE says:

I usually don’t go from post to post giving the same message but. This behind the seems from the game last night is worth it.

CHECK THIS OUT! Great behind the scenes stuff of game 2.

  16. Ashlov says:

By all means, push him right out of Toronto and into a Heat jersey. He’d make a great second option to Wade.

  17. dk says:

Dont forget boys, Bryant, Gasol, Shaq and Bynum …2011 Amazing!

  18. the cynic says:

They should have never let Delfino go and they should have never given Kapano a fat paycheck

  19. Nick C says:

Ok fellow Raptors fans … take a step back … deep breath … all is well.

There are many of us who still love Bosh and wish him well whatever happens. Basketball was invented by a Canadian and thus, by the divine laws of the universe and all that is good and true, we’ll get ours at some point. Whether it’s with or without the Big Bosh man.

  20. David_Brandon says:

damn….thats hellllllla cold! not too many cities bury a dude like that. well maybe boston and new york. lol!

  21. Kobeef says:

Here’s the basic problem (hint, it’s not Bosh):

2004: Raptors draft Rafael Arujo at #8 instead of (among others) Dre Iguodala, Josh Smith, Kevin Martin, Devin Harris, Al Jefferson

2005: Raptors draft Chuck V at #7 instead of Danny Granger or Andrew Bynum and eventually trade him for… TJ Ford who proceeds to become the worst starting PG in the NBA.

2006: Raptors draft Bustnani instead of Lamarcus Aldridge, Rudy Gay or Brandon Roy

So to put it in perspective, had the Raptors drafted well they could now have a starting line of:

    PG: Jose Calderon
    SG: Brandon Roy
    SF: Danny Granger
    PF: Bosh
    C: Al Jefferson

Tell me again, who’s fault is it that this team stinks?
Not Bosh, that is for DAMN sure.

  22. K Dizzle (2 more then nuthin left to say) says:

This don’t really mean nuthin. Just a smart play by Bosh. Kobe shit on management and look where he at now.

@ the cynic – apparently, Delfino wants back in

  23. jzsmoove says:

Bosh is where Pau Gasol was at a short few years ago. Who is to decide at this point whether his ceiling is not a 31 option or maybe a #2 or #3. It is best safe to assume that if he pulls a Gasol (#2 behind a prolific scorer) he will have a great chance at a chip sooner.

I have been thinking it over, and when Wade, Bron and Bosh all signed these odd contracts (short term max contract)just maybe there was a hidden pact between them. If their respective teams dont win a chip by 2010 they will bolt to be in the same team? Or maybe at least 2 out of the 3? This could be a phenomenal move and a start of some new trend. Think Wolverines, Circa THE Michigan Wolverines that revolutioned bball in ots own right. Is there a team that could lock them 3 up or some close reasonable luxury tax territory team?

  24. jzsmoove says:

I love T.Dot this is my city I live a 10 mins bike ride from Air Canada Center I live and breathe Raptors when they are not bounced from the playoffs. I go to multiple games every season and it hurts to say this. That 3-pact aint happening in Toronto. OR Maybe Colangelo has black magic.

  25. flavur says:

I think that Colangelo should sit down with Chris and do the Pau Gasol thing and TRADE HIM TO THE HEAT FOR BEASLY to start over the franchise.

  26. Nasty says:

any raptor fan that is giving up on bosh at this point cant call themselves a raptor fan.

he went through some shit this year with his girl … not to mention injuries to their starting pg and center during the first half of the season.

if you want to take a shot at certain cities fans, why not try miami or atlanta, people only show up for the playoffs,, even when the raps lose the ACC is sold out.

Bosh resigns, nobody panics, and they have a better season next year.

  27. DurrtyInjun says:

Trade him to the Pistons! I don’t know who Toronto would want but I think a sign and trade of Sheed, and their choice between Prince or Rip could work with salaries. Toronto would then have the two best 3 point shooting centers in the league!

  28. loc says:

    I still dig bosh,
He can be the #1 option, the raptors just need a damned 2 or 3 who can actually dribble and shoot. We have shooters, and we have marion, now lets get someone who can do both and help score.

The screwface capital ain’t never happy!
Torontos just mad the Raptors are STILL better than the leafs.

  29. Bron42 aka Had Springs Before Slamball says:

@kobeef, ur logic is all off…that roster would never happen cuz with any of those guys they wouldn’t be in the lottory enough to pic the rest of those guys.So they’d get maybe one of the guys on a given night and tehn be a average team in the east (ala the pacers after gettin granger) No to mention, i’m happy they didn’t draft bynum..hes ass and gettin paid 64 mill to be ass…And I dunked on Rafael Arujo in college so him gettin drafted so high was one of my many claims to fame lol

  30. spirow says:

You know when the raptors won 47 games. . . That was a shock to everyone in the NBA. . . They waren’t suppose to win that many games and kinda messed up the rebuild phase. . . Basketball fans will know the true reason toronto sucks is because the way vince carter was dealt with. . . We got jack in return for him and that messed up the franchise. . . Colangelo won’t let that happen with bosh and im sure the owners made that clear. . . Yes toronto needs 2 or a 3 but i think it’ll all depend on the first 20 games of the seaon, how raptors fair off. . . If they come out HOT which i doubt, then expect things to change. . . But if they come out good and not bad, expect colangelo to make a move for bosh. . . If im the raptors general manager, I would try to trade bosh for a guy like Griffen, and take a bad contract if need may be. . . And next year not focuss on making the playoffs, trade calderon for a draft pick and next year tank so the target could be john wall!

  32. QQ says:

    This got me thinking:

In the All Star, I said Bosh doesn’t deserve to be there because real stars will their teams into winning. People here were like ‘20 and 10, bitch! That is a star!’.

    Hmmm…

To them, now, I say: LOL!

  33. Raffy_Z says:

oh my… flashes of Vince Carter hate are in my head again… toronto sucks. let go of Bosh he’s better suited in another team. Raps fans don’t deserve an all star after the way they keep treating their stars after a let down season. He’s not all to blame! It wasn’t vince, t-mac or bosh that was the problem… it was the support. Bosh deserves better, get him out of there. pronto. Give him to the nets so he can be back with his boy VC, Blur and B-Lo… that’s gonna be something to be feared in Jersey =)

  34. zmafuel says:

nice, appreciate the Guetta blaster reference.

  35. TO says:

    @KOBEEF.

    Dammit. Thanks for the reminder!

    -all Raptor fans.

  36. G_Nice says:

While I like Brown’s reasoning on trading Bosh, most arguments I’ve heard seem ridiculous. Maybe Bosh is not a top tier player- Maybe. How many teams have top tier players. Or asked another way, in the 15 year existence of the Raptors, how many top tier players have we had.

If you are planning on trading Bosh, what are you betting on? Do you think Bargnani will be better? not saying he won’t, but at this point in his career is there any evidence?

Do you think the trade assets we get back will make us any better. We are not getting Lebron an even if we did, by time we traded to get him, we’d be back in the hole of not having enough talent to put around him.

One observation I made about this years Raptors. They had absolutely no bench. It wasn’t what Bosh didn’t do that was the problem
