The Warriors’ Ingenius NBA Draft Plans

USC's DeMar DeRozan

USC's DeMar DeRozan

Warriors fans should think about doing what Knicks fans did outside MSG when things got really bad with Isiah. In typical salty New York fashion, they picketed on a side street with a giant pink slip, begging for the organization to get rid of ‘Zeke.

The only problem for the Golden State faithful would be choosing who they want fired. You could lop off the entire brain trust at the top of that organization and they’d probably be better off.

Instead of addressing their glaring need at point guard, they’re working out a boat load of wings. Who cares that they already have Stephen Jackson, Corey Maggette, Anthony Morrow, Kelenna Azubuike, Jamal Crawford and Marco Belinelli to play the two and three? Rumor is that they’d really love to add USC 6-6 wing DeMar DeRozan to the mix.

They have nine guys on their roster listed as SG or SF, and that doesn’t even include Monta. That’s easily the most of any squad in the League – only seven other teams have seven guys listed as such.

But that isn’t stopping Nellie and his cronies from seeking out another wing. Terrence Williams said that they told him they’re considering taking him. They’re working out Earl Clark and James Johnson on Saturday. And they already covet DeMar.

“I get a feeling that coach (Don) Nelson is really interested,” DeRozan said. “He talked to me, told me I did well and said he’ll see me soon.”

Why go for a guy like Jonny Flynn, who could very well grow into a carbon copy of Bay Area favorite Baron Davis, when you can get another 6-6 wing?

Agreed with everything up until Flynn being a possible Boom Dizzle. He’ll be good, but those two are totally different players.

  2. JL says:

    First!

Been readin this blog since Jesus played the point for Jerusalem way back, way over due for a comment or 2…

Nellies a head case – just trying to out do the raiders and their A grade @#$$ ups in the NFL draft!

  3. steele says:

i was confused as hell when they signed corey maggette last summer? uhm, doesn’t he play the same position as nellie’s main man jackson? was the thought. then, early next season, jack’s talking about his contract was being extended. i thought he was delusional, and it was funny he thought that way. a week later, his contract was extended! he had 2 years left on the deal! i cannot conceive the warriors’ stupidity. they have so much good young talent atrophying on the bench as well.

  4. Jewelz says:

Get Jennings or Evans please, DeRozan is all potential. Get Curry Jennings or Evans please warriors or even Flynn.

  5. hahns says:

    dont they need a big……..?

  6. dk says:

Another idiot and I from off these boards could run that team better on Sundays only and from our phones.

  7. Kidd says:

Nelson likes to play 5 guys on the floor who are about 6′6 to 6′9 and can dribble, shoot, and run the break. He can care less about having a traditional lineup, and therefore the Warriors will never be a serious contender with Nelson.

  8. that's whats up says:

@4 – I’m pretty sure I’m that other idiot you speak of

  9. JL says:

If Memphis are keen on taking Ricky Rubio then wouldnt that make Mike Conley trade bait? Surely GS could ship out a combo comprising of under used role players like Morrow & Belinelli for Conley – either of these 2 would be an upgrade for their current back up 3 Q Ross…

Another option could be to trade for Memphis’ other 1st round pick and swoop on under rated St Marys star Patty Mills – I have heard he has had work outs with GS & his up tempo style and tenacious all round game would be a good fit next to Monta Ellis, S Jackson & co. This still leaves them with their no 7 pick & maybe Jordan Hill might still be available.

But maybe that makes too much sense for Nellie?

  10. Brown says:

At this point, I don’t even know what to think of my Warriors. I’m praying Jrue Holiday or Brandon Jennings is available. Maybe DeJuan Blair. If it’s not one of those guys, it’s a wasted draft.

  11. quest??? says:

If i was the warriors gm i would take a free agent point guard like Carlos Arroyo or Jannero Pargo, who i think are perferct for Nellie’s system. Then id trade jamal crawford and another skill player with the draft pick to the raptors for chris bosh.

    Starting Lineup
    Carlos Arroyo/Jannero Pargo/ Andre Miller
    Monta Ellis
    Stephen Jackson
    Chris Bosh
    Biedrins

Thats a pretty good starting lineup and they would have a deep bench with belinelli, Morrow, Turiaf, Wright,Randolph

  12. quest??? says:

oh i forgot to put that andre miller is an option but he is more expensive than jannero pargo or carlos arroyo

  13. KWAME says:

looks like the warriors are gonna let me down again…yay…

  14. Steve Gomez 10a-2p on Hot 104.7 Modesto, CA says:

LOVE IT!!!! I’m starting to think Nellie is just seeing how much crazy shit they’ll let him do.

  15. Jah says:

They’re straight on bigs for the moment — the article read right when it mentioned PG as the biggest hole in the Warrior’s unit.

They stupid if they draft another wing. Real stupid.

  16. Jah says:

They could be building up for a trade…

  17. Coop says:

Nelson’s head is in an ass-tunnel

  18. Big Snacks says:

    @ JL –

Yeah, that makes too much sense for Nellie.

Patty got skillz (musta been the first time anyone wrote that sentence), but he too small to pair with Monta inna backcourt. So I’d go with Jennings, Tyreke or mebbe Jordan Hill upfront.

    But thas just me.

Now, off to git mo snacks…

  19. "Tha Boddy" DOCTOR LOVE!!! says:

It looks like they are building up for a trade. All of the 2/3’s they have are able to score an average of 15pts ez and can get to the basket…There is a method to all madness and we just have to see how Nelson’s works out

  20. Jay Jay says:

Rumor is that they will draft Patty Mills, he’s from that area and he is fast which will suit Golden State’s game plan.

You heard it here 1st ….lol

  21. The Oracle says:

consider this, the dubs drafing a swingman this year would basically mandate a trade. If we draft a 2/3 and then move someone like belinelli/morrow/maggette/azubuike to get a pg then it could actually help us. the offseason begins – not ends – at the draft.

  22. peoples champ says:

Jesus played the point for Jerusalem way back

    classic

  23. jace says:

if they can wait.. get jennings.. he won’t be enough to help them much this year.. but be patient, cuz a point guard with his athleticism and court vision will DEFINITELY help you down the road. ive been watchin clips of his euro games, and it looks like he’s matured a bit.. knows when to turn it off and on. soo he could already be a solid backup point once he gets to the league.

if they dont want to wait… get derozan.. and trade one of them other wings for a better point… or a draft pick for a point.

i dont think they need any big men.. biedrins is still holdin it down.. wright is on his way up if he gets more time.. maggette fits the small ball pf position.. although randolph is still skinny as hell.. he’s the right height for a pf position.. theyre stuck with turiaf’s contract so he’s there too. if anything.. they dont need to waste that high pick for a big who might not even get any time.. cuz lets face it.. if ur gonna be a big in nellie’s system.. u have to be athletic.. and by that i mean faster than usual.

  24. I.Dot says:

Don Nelson needs a swing to his head.

  25. JD says:

Most of you are complete idiots. The warriors were terrible before Nellie arrived. The team is loaded and barring another year of league leading games lost to injuries this team will be a playoff team growing into a contender. Why take the 4th or 5th best point guard at 7 when you can get the best SG or SF? This draft is so deep at pg, you have plenty of trade bait, or can always sign a free agent if you really need another pg. This team has multiple players whom can get the ball up the court and a pg drafted at 7 wouldn’t be on the floor much if Ellis is healthy. Look at the finals, do you think Rafer Alston or Derick Fisher are top pgs?

  26. warrior91 says:

all nelson cares about is braking the record for most wins all rime he dont care about anything else once he does that he gonna leave

  27. bay91 says:

JD who says they have to take a PG with the 7th pick u could trade down and get a PG. why take another swing man when they already got hella. if they gonna keep there 7th pick they need to draft a big man. then they need to try and make a trade and try and draft patty mills or jonny flynn. whatever they do they better not get another swing man. and for all those who think ricky rubio would fit good with the warriors he wouldn’t marco is just as good as him he more quicker has a better shot and can pass better then rubio, rubio is to slow for the NBA

  28. B-rice says:

Flynn is goin to be a very good PG..he’s got hops and a good drive to the basket, and very good passing ability. i think if he adds a better jump shot he will be really good

  29. angle says:

    nike dunk
