Saving the biggest for last. As I’ve covered before, this isn’t a typical “best players” ranking. If you see a high school kid listed higher than an NBA All-Star here, nobody’s saying the prep is better than the pro. Instead, I’m looking at the whole picture: Who had an overall better season? Pound-for-pound, who made the biggest impact on their level? Who made the biggest mark on the entire game of basketball? Who made this season his own? So here are my Top 10 — not “10 best” — centers from the ‘08-09 season…Read More »
It is being reported that free agent Hakim Warrick has signed a 1-year deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Warrick, a 6-9 forward with tons of athleticism and potential has put together a decent, but relatively disappointing NBA career so far. He averaged 11 points and five boards for the Grizzlies last season, playing in all 82 games. Warrick was reportedly talking with the Cavs, Bobcats and hometown Sixers before settling on the Bucks.
All this waiting and debating over Lamar Odom‘s future, and he ends up getting about one Aston Martin more than Marvin Williams money? The biggest remaining free agent chip (again, all due respect to Allen Iverson) was taken off the table yesterday, as Odom agreed to a four-year, $33 million deal with the Lakers. That immediately puts L.A. back on top as the odds-on favorite to win the 2010 NBA championship, ahead of the Orlandos, San Antonios, Clevelands and Bostons who have spent the offseason making big moves specifically to topple Kobe‘s squad. (Wish we could say the same for Denver, but they’re apparently in chillin’ mode.) … And speaking of teams not doing anything, what does the Odom signing do to Dwyane Wade‘s psyche? Read More »
Last weekend’s Baseball Hall of Fame coverage was as much about Ricky Henderson (one of my all-time favorite athletes) and Jim Rice as it was about the old issue of steroids in baseball. Then, like always, the HOF coverage led to another round of Pete Rose debates. Then today, news broke of Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz failing steroid tests.
The concept of “cheating” in sports is one everybody is familiar with, because the ideal of fair play is one we’ve all had preached to us since the only games we knew were Tag and Catch. Read More »
ESPN is reporting that Lamar Odom and the Lakers have agreed on a reported potential four-year, $33 million deal.
According to ESPN, Miami had offered Odom as much as it can for a team well over the salary cap: $34 million over five years with an opt-out to return to free agency after the fourth season, according to sources.
What do you think? Good move for L.A.? Good decision by Lamar?
2007: “Toronto as a market won’t ever be New York, L.A., Boston or Miami. Playing in a small market while not being a flashy guy isn’t a kiss of death, but (Chris) Bosh‘s low profile might not resonate with H.O.F. voters if he doesn’t win big (like Reggie Miller) or put up amazing numbers (like Karl Malone and John Stockton).”
2009: “More than LeBron, Wade or any other superstar, Bosh seems most likely to change teams in the much-hyped 2010 offseason. The NBA’s resident self-marketing guru and undercover comedian is just waiting to break out in a bigger market, i.e. New York, Miami or L.A.”Read More »
One of my boys from Philly sent me this video earlier in the week with the message, “How have I not seen this yet?” That’s a great question – whether you love Allen Iverson, hate Allen Iverson, or are indifferent about Allen Iverson, you should watch this video. It was apparently shot last week, and it’s made the rounds on YouTube and Bill Simmons posted it the other day, but check it out if you haven’t seen it yet. Weird to see A.I. showing this kind of emotion…
