Allen Iverson to the Bulls?

The Detroit Free Press, via cbssportsline, mentions a far fetched scenario where Ben Gordon and Allen Iverson are actually dealt for one another in a sign in trade (rather than a straight BG signing by the Pistons).
It’s the first we’ve heard of the Bulls strong interest in AI. Good fit? We can’t decide. Marketing wise, most definitely. The city will love Iverson. Scoring wise, the Bulls could use Iverson, but would probably rather Loul Deng step up his game. Speak up Chicago (and everywhere else):
Do you want to see Iverson in a Bulls uniform?

AI sure can replace Gordon’s scoring, but AI needs the ball in his hands to be effective… i don’t see that possible with D-Rose on the same squad…

How does this work if both players are out of contract and not counting against cap space? Just curious.
AI should just sign somewhere that’s lets him do what he wants, or be happy to sign for a team thats wants him a 6th man explosive scorer.

Great call on Turk. Though I don’t think that happens.
Weng Santos - I really don’t see the Iverson to the Spurs thing happening. I’ll take that bet.

That Billups/AI trade really fucked up the Pistons and AI. AI was a productive, STAR when he left Denver, now he’s being treated like he’s washed up and has barely anything left. I bet he could still drop 20+ for a season if given the chance.
Sad sad state for AI these days. I only hope he can find his footing and prove that he isn’t in his GP on the Lakers days.

I like how this looks:
PG - Derrick Rose
SG - John Salmons (A.I.)
SF - Luol Deng
PF - Tyrus Thomas
C - Joahkim Noah
Not as quite “sexy” as:
PG - Tony Parker
SG - Roger Mason, Jr. (A.I.)
SF - Richard Jefferson
PF - Tim Duncan
C - Drew Gooden (Rasheed Wallace)

Salmons don’t want AI on the Bulls team.
It’s not that Iverson needs the ball all the time to be effective. Like Rip Iverson has been the recipient of many catch and shoot mid range Js and diving lay on the cut pass. The issue is Iverson needs the rock in the 4th to do what he do as far as getting to the line and all. Bulls have a lead guard they are developing for that.
I still think AI can play in any system with any back court mate (offensively). IT is all about strong coaching and front office direction. Detroit was a total mess and that is blamed on Iverson. Also those who are actual Sixer’s fans and not just Iverson Groupies are Haters know for a fact that after Pat Croce left Sixers front office was a mess and Cheeks was lame as hell in game. He just sat with a constipated look on his face most of the game.
If AI wants to play we will see him make the necessary concessions to prove he deserves to finish his career on his terms.
That spurs mention would be crazy. He just needs guys around him that know how to play off the ball as well as how to set him up. Spurs is a smart team with a great coach and front office. Not many of those in the L.

Arrogant says:
If Ai takes a 1 year deal to prove he can fit , i would take that…
he gets to provee he can play, and falls into the 2010 draft sweepstakes and bulls get a good player, ready to prove himself, and it doesnt disrupt 2010 cap…

bigger_daddy says:
why is not AI thinking of playing for the rockets instead given that their two main men are potentially out of the season. obviously he will took a MAJOR pay-cut but hey it’s his chance to become the face of that franchise (for at least a season):
lowry/brooks
iverson/wafer
battier/ariza
hayes/landry/scola/dorsey
now if they only could get a complimentary athletic center (productive 10-15 minutes a night) then this might be an 8th seeded playoff team.
at the very least, iverson will have flashes of his 01 sixers with arguably better individual players.

We wouldn’t be talking about this if Iverson would just accept his role as the sixth man! No doubt he can still play… and play for a number of years, but he needs to realize that he cannot be the star of the team and win a championship.
If Iverson came off the bench, he could play for any of the front runners right now:
Boston
Cleavland
Orlando
Phoenix
San Antonio
Portland
BUT, he still wants starter minutes and starter money… and no one needs that.

Why not take a chance if you are a team like Chicago that is going to have a hard time scoring? Give him a one year deal for the mid-level, if he is a cancer, just release him during the season, and it’s not a long-term killer.
I actually think the Spurs would be a good fit. Manu can’t start at SG and last the entire year. Who else is there? Mike Finley? George Hill? Come on.

So stick with what you got? Are you kidding me? i rather get A.I right now then wait on D Wade to say he’s staying in Miami. Less we all forget that a few years ago, we had a healthy tracy mcgrady singing songs at wrigley field only to go to orlando. Oh yeah we got Ron Mercer that year. Please.. we need a big man, but we are to cheap to go out and get one, so why not get A.I for one year, he’ll be playing for a bigger contract anyway. L.A is taking a chance on Artest, why not us on A.I. . Everybody wants something to move in Chicago but no one is willing to make the move.. Any MOVE!

^^^^^^^^^^^ I agree 100%! Everyone not giving AI the respect he is due. Just a year ago he was top 5 in the LEAGUE in scoring and fitting in quite well in Denver when Melo was messing up getting DUIs and what not. And they played the Lakers LATER THIS YEAR and what was the result with and without AI?!?! Yes, Lakers won the series both years!!! It was luck that they didn’t get the Lakers until Conf Finals! I hope AI goes to a contender, I have wanted to see AI & Lebron play together so I hope it happens. If not to a contender, AI should go to Philly and continue his legacy there.

Iverson has been my favorite player for a long time but sadly his career is taking that Patrick Ewing(Sonics), Shawn Kemp (orlando), Kenny Anderson (Boston), Gary Payton (Boston) type of a turn. So sad. I’ll always remember him braided up in Philly giving teams buckets while standing under 6 feet tall weighing 165lbs.

Colangelo should grow a set of balls and get Iverson to TO. Iverson, Rip and Laimbeer for Bosh and a bag of basketballs…Id love to see TO go Phillie circa 2001…Let Iverson do his thing and everyone else defend, rebound and stay the f&ck out of his way…now that, Id pay to see.

Yea…i would love to have A.I in illinois. That would more than compensate for having lost Ben Gordon. Could you imagine him and rose running a fast break? Those guys are like speed demons, even if Iverson has lost a step. But i wonder if he’s willing to come off the bench? Prob not. If not, then i’d take john salmons off the bench and have Luol start because he’s younger and still has a lot of upside.

Guys I personally think he should go to the heat where the coaches understand him and they need more scoring to help out d wade and if wade sees a promising improvment in the heat sorry bulls fan he might re sign but it’s all up to him hopefully iverson will show evryone that he’s not washed up and will realy help the heat
but I’m just 15 what do I know

Stephon says:
Ideal VS. Practical
Ideally, I want AI to play with King James and Big Aristotle. Cavs have a weak backcourt. West and Mo Will are both one dimensional players. Cavs do have a need for a backcourt player that can score and distribute with ease, someone that can create their own shot at will. LBJ will have no problem sharing the ball with AI because King James will get his by jus playing in the system.
Practically, AI could mostly be contained within the San Antonio system. You gota have a strong coaching staff and serious basketball players to make AI realize that he needs to use his scoring ability wisely and selectively now to win a championship. AI needs to realize that he can no longer be the number goto guy on the team, and he does not need to be. No matter he likes it or not, he needs to accept that. But he ain’t no payton on the lakers. AI is still capable of giving you 30 a night with ease. He needs to learn the Popovich system and leverage off of that. It will be much easier for AI to get buckets as well. He’ll need to come off the bench if he were to head to S.A. AI and TP will be too small.

Don says:
AI is still capable of doing his things, and why a lot of people are thinking of putting him as a 6th man or off the bench. I just want to remind you all that he still have his game and we all know that he is not fit in the Pistons style of play thats why his numbers all dropped, and 1 more thing is Michael Curry is not a good coach. Iverson can be suitable for Bulls or any fast teams and can help D.Rose become a more better player. And as off for Salmons, if he don’t like AI in the team, I don’t think that people will choose him rather than AI. He cannot do everything AI can? But AI can better than anythng he can…. So why he dont just keep his mouth shut and don’t act like he’s a big thing cos he is still not……
