Allen Iverson Wants to Play Where??

This hurts my heart. Here I am, sitting here in my office every day like a sucker, hoping that at some point I’m eventually going to see breaking news that tells me that the Sixers have figured out a way (peace, Andre Miller) to sign Allen Iverson so that he can finish his career in Philly while he still has something left.
And then I come across this:
Several NBA sources have confirmed to me that controversial and wildly popular guard Allen Iverson - through representatives - has made the Grizzlies aware that he would like to play in Memphis.
The veteran, prolific scorer is a free agent for the first time in his professional career. While no deal is imminent and conversations have been only cursory, Griz brass are said to be internally weighing the pros and cons of possibly adding Iverson to the team’s youth movement.
Iverson would certainly have to take a major pay cut from the $21 million he earned last season with Detroit. The Griz would only entertain Iverson with what they’d deem a reasonable price, and if the 34-year-old agreed to play off the bench.
Ugh. The Sixers are going to stink for the next few years - honestly, the very, very best they can probably hope to do is finish fourth in the East. And as long as LeBron and Dwight are still in the East, there’s pretty much zero chance of them ever seeing the Finals. Give Philly fans some sort of basketball enjoyment watching Allen do his thing in a Sixers uni instead of just fading away in some place like Memphis. Yes, I’m serious.
Just bring Allen home, please.

Dang sorry PC.
Memphis though? MEMPHIS?
That came out of nowhere? For real I had A.I. a lot of places but Memphis wasn’t one.
I would love to see A.I. at Philly, Houston or Atl. Anywhere where dude can be somewhat successful

Heat contacted both Iverson and Artest. Unlikely, but interesting nonetheless.

AI should go to Cleveland where he has chance for ring and join Lebron.

!!!??!?!?!! says:
But I think him returning to Philly makes sense as well. But I just want him to have shot at ring. He won’t get a ring in Charlotte or Memphis or LA (kings).

POPPI GEE says:
Awww A.I. running with Cleveland would be sick but he would have to take a MAJOR pay cut. He might as well play for free compared to what he is used to getting.
That would be crazy and his best chance.

AI, Shaq and LeBron, they’d need a couple more balls on the court.

Kudabeen says:
If the heat team is a real option that would be his best bet. I’d like to see him in Philly, but none of these teams make sense for him to come off the bench. He is better than the starter. I think we under estimate the fact that he is a good passer, but hasn’t played with a big time go to guy like that. Carmelo and AI worked fine until they ran against better teams in the Lakers and Spurs.
Put him with D-Wade or back on a Philly squad with Elton, young guns like Thad, Speights, and a more confident Dre I (Iguodala), and rookie Jrue Holiday backing him up for a year or so I think he can still be impactful.
AI + Dre + Elton equal many open looks for that 4th and 5th options on the floor who would typically be between Thad, Speights, Jrue and Kapono…not a bad thing to get these guys open/good looks.

Not to rub salt into a fresh wound, but I heard Minny just lost a point guard lol. For real tho, AI would be a perfect fit in Minny. They need a point guard AND scoring. Heads sayin they should have drafted Steph Curry, well AI the original. He’s like Curry XL (and I ain’t talkin Eddy)

AI to NY…I like that idea. Knicks got nobody; AI could be the one man show in the big apple until free agency next year.

memphis isn’t going anywhere near iverson unless they are trying to destroy OJ Mayo (a very real possibility). At least the Z-Bo move makes sense on the court; iverson makes no sense anywhere unless he is willing to be dynamite off the bench

I would love for AI to come home and finish his career here in Philly! Realistically will management go for that? Also, what’s more important to AI at the moment? Being in the best possible position to win a ring or returning to his NBA roots?

He should shut his career down in Philly.. I mean the Memphis thing would be interesting to watch.. Not sure at all what him going to my former rockets team (yes I quit them)would do. No Yao, no Artest (according to him), and TMAC, AI, Battier, Landry and Brooks ain’t gonna get it done!!!!

I’m betting that Iverson’s agent is just putting this out there so that it will up the ante some for Iverson and pressure some teams to try and contact him out of fear of possibly missing out on him if they dont get Jason Kidd. If Iverson honestly wants to play there, then I would lose alot of respect for him because that would mean he is more interested in money then a ring.

If AI goes to Boston, NY, or LA that would suck salty donkey scrotum.
now that that’s settled, he needs to go to a place where they already have a big PG that can play defense. He needs to be a 2 guard. point blank he’s not going to be successful as a PG, especially if the other guard is smallish.
now, he could go back to Denver
Billups is perfect for him. He’ll have to split time with JR smith cause, and that would cut down on JR Smith’s minutes, which is a great thing.
Or he can go wherever Kidd goes. That’s about it. Assuming he wants to win…

I cosign on scott … more balls to have him go to cleveland … made me laugh. and im somewhat in on what drankin said … a man should never quit on his team … he needs an attitude check. i think AI to the sixers would be nice though … reminiscing on the Iverson i fell in love with. once he left there i just wasnt on the train all the way anymore.

I hope he dusnt go to Memphis because if those guys start bringin him off the bench thatll be rough if he goes there he should play the point but no i dont think he should not a good fit with those young guys especially Mayo. Yeah Miami dont do it A.I.!!!! Wade gets your number and your stats. Not like he gonna win a ring there anyways. We know A.I. wont go to the Lakers or Celtics or Spurs or PISTONS!!! or Cavs or Orlando because hell probably come off the bench. AI is one of the greatest scorers ever he sacraficed a lot of stats last year in that boring structured offence he took 14 shots a game and did not get used at all. Curry got fired so he is one of the guys to blame. So I SAY GO TO THE SIXERS OR RAPTORS A.I. Do your thing and Average 25 cas I know you can still and once they realize you still got it By Trade Deadline theyll get you a good player and you can make a run for the RING. Peaceeee.

Its obvious people - Memphis is about the only team out there with enough room to fit his XL sized ego!!!
If he wants to go out with a bang he should wait til mid season and sign for a contender, come off the bench and be the difference on a contender.

I would love for A.I. to be back in philly
He would do better then wat he did before.
When back in philly he would have fans tht love him and he will know he is home. A new coach wanting him to shoot off. and work on D. A line that can help support him. The Fans will be rooting him on and there will be more ticket buyers. With A.I. in philly he will want 2 play better and he will go to practice 2 b better. He learned the cost and knows what will happen. A.I. will also want to get the fans that lost there hearts 2 him back. He will play better to
In my oppion the way to go is for A.I. back in philly

YO0o0o0o!!!! A.I come back to philly man if u gotta call them like mike bibby did jus come back boul we need u here forreal if we get A.I back we would be goooood!!! we would actually be complete… A.I, Iggy, Thad, Elton, Sammy? what lineup in the eastern conference would have a more complete set of starters?? every aspect of the game will be covered no hole no gaps no bullshit jus go out compete and win games we got a good coach with a good scheme (princeton offense) new rookie Jrue Holiday and Mareese Speights (not a rookie) jason Kapono?? we would b da shit wit A.I man dat would be crazy and a good way to complete the A.I legacy to come back where it started and do it right dis time…. look he got the cut, we went back to the colors we had when we drafted him, and we actually have a team which is better than any other team we had before (including the finals run)…. He will be back he’s jus makin a story but philly is where his heart is he know where he’s loved and appreciated… A.I for MVP 2010??? maybe…
July 13th, 2009 at 10:31 pm
Zay Zillionz says:
one more thing how many players in the nba today has dealt with more criticism than A.I honestly?? and for people to say he’s a quitter and a punk i think that is pretty harsh man… how would u feel if u were traded to a team that nobody averaged more than 20 and they wanted to put you on the bench for a nigga name Rodney Stuckey??? this is what i can imagine A.I sayin to Michael Curry: “What Are you serious? i averaged 27 points last year and you gone bench me for a nigga named Rodney Stuckey?? what about R.I.P or Tayshaun? or even Maxiell? wtf you mean to tell me out of all these other MFer’s on this team i get benched i’d rather retire man!” then on top of all this bullshit Michael Curry was a “ROOKIE” coach u think Flip Saunders or Rick Carlisle wouldn’t have accommodated A.I’s skill as a scorer yea he take shots but he also scores nobody in detroit can score better.. But i see a sign-and-trade deal with detroit or even a three team deal…. A.I for Sammy and Lou Williams (if u watched the playoffs last year u would know y im sayin lou) detroit needs a bench player like Lou and a center like Sammy. or even Sammy and Andre miller for A.I… either way something’s gonna happen with this A.I situation….
