Celtics A-Team Headed to See Rasheed Wallace Right Now

CelticsBlog just posted that a whole crew is headed to Michigan right now to meet with Rasheed Wallace to continue the hard free agent sell.
Reportedly among the group headed to court ‘Sheed: Celtics Managing Partner Wyc Grousbeck, Danny Ainge, Doc Rivers, and KG. Paul Pierce and Ray Allen may also be on the trip as well but that has yet to be confirmed.
Gotta think it’s going to be tough for ‘Sheed to say no to that show of love, even if Pierce and Ray aren’t with the Wyc/Ainge/Doc/KG crew. Although, personally, I think the whole things is a bad idea …
We will keep you up on what we hear later on today.

As bad as this sounds for the Celts… my real question is why is all the love needed, who else is really trying to sign Sheed??? I mean… really… who??

A perfect match – a classless player being pursued by a classless organization.

If Sheed ends up with the Celtics could you imagine the amount of trash talk goin’ on in the paint with him and KG there?

y do they want sheed so bad?

@QQ – sounds like sour grapes tht this “classless team” did what you couldn’t and beat the Lakers. Didn’t one of your guys slap someone during the Playoffs? Yup, real classy…
@Jeff – our backup bigs last year were: Mikki Moore, Patrick O’Bryant, Scal, Big Baby (may be gone,) Powe (is hurt and gone.) Notice the lack of a legit 5 there with any sort of skill. Sheed either comes in and moves Perk to the bench or becomes our best backup big in years

A perfect match, just like Vince Carter in Orlando – a loser player joining a loser organization.

Josh says:
He’s a perfect match for the rest of the jawing, smack talking, technical foul loving Celtics.
Sheed is 35 yrs old, has a bad knee, and is disinterested the majority of the time. Also, unless the Celts can get him to take the Vet min, he’s going to push them even further over the cap. Does he even make enough of a difference? He looked terrible in Detroit last year. 12pts and 7.5 boards?
Another band-aid for the problem that is their cap situation.
July 2nd, 2009 at 12:59 pm
Celts Fan says:
@Josh – our cap will be fine when the Big 3 leave. In the meantime, band-aids (and not trading Rondo) is all we need. Also, look at the list of backup bigs we had last year (post #6.) We DESPERATELY need someone like him off the bench (or to move Perk to the bench. Either way, a legit 5 w/ some ability somewhere on the court…)

Diego says:
Can’t see him starting, BUT the Celtics have a long history of waving their magic pixie dust on players on the downside of their career–Walton, DJ–(or doing nothing up to then with their career–Parish, Ainge) and making them stars (or at least relevant again).

The Celtics hate is a daily event on dime.
I don’t like that DA did not offer Powe a contract, but I think picking up Rasheed will only improve our team. Boston have no length at the 4/5 spot after KG and Perks. Even a 35 year old Sheed is better than letting players like Mikki Moore, Patrick O’Bryant, and Scalabrine get major burn. If we lose out on Rasheed I hope we go after McDycee.
@Scott
There are several teams beside Boston trying to get Rasheed and are willing to offer the mid-level. So far I heard the Spurs and Cavs want to sign Sheed while the Mavs are showing some interest.

cool, I hadn’t heard thus the surprise of the a-team trying so hard to woo him.
Still, with an aging team already, you’d think the Celts would want to bring in some youth or you know, guys under 30. Someone to combine with Rondo for their future after the big 3, otherwise Rondo is going to be talking to Pierce about how he handled it when the Celts were lotto bound annually.
I wonder what Artest would do if all those guys showed up at his doorstep?

@6 & 8 – Please don’t be salty as hell that your wack ass, classless, hooligan antic team (AKA the Celtics) got SERVED up by the Magic. Y’all had your time, and now its long gone. Filling up the roster with thugs and hustlers (Garnett, Rondo AKA Dirtiest player in NBA, Steph, Tony Allen, now Sheed if it happens) ain’t the way to build a top to bottom classy winner. You want the blueprint? Look at the Magic. We lost this year, but our future is MUCH brighter than that of the trashy Celtics. So prepare for another season of disappointment. Has beens!

Celts Fan says:
@QQ. Why would I be salty? KG was hurt so it was obvious we weren’t winning shit last year anyway (not an excuse, just saying we all knew there was no parade in our future) so who we ended up losing to didn’t really matter. We’re not dumb; we know there’s a VERY SMALL window left to win a title, but guess what? My team already took one. If we go back to the pack in a couple years, that’s fine, cuz we got that chip. (After a dozen yrs of season tix to mostly taverage-at-best teams, nothings getting me salty about these last few years.)
You do understand that losing your point forward/crunchtime guy Hedo (and Lee, who I really like) to get a VC isn’t an upgrade, right? If you keep Hedo too, then you’re the favorites, but if not, I think your best run just happened.
Btw. I have no problem w the Magic. I’d MUCH rather see them get a chip instead Cleveland or LA…

QQ-I’d hate us too. Especially if my team had won…1..yes 1 Finals game in franchise history. Ouch. Do you guys hear that..?? “Glug, glug..*gulp*.glug”. It’s QQ choking back a big glass of Green HaterAide..lol..And your team did beat us in the playoffs, but “served”..? You beat our team when it was depleted by injury in the 7th game of 7. If you have half a brain you know that “served” is not quite accurate. I feel ya’ though.

Damn. This QQ dude got a lot of hate for Sheed. What? Because your Magic lost out in getting Sheed? Hahaha. And what MUCH bright future? Without Hedo, your offense is shit. Tell you what though, it’s gonna be less embarrassing for the Magic next year because Orlando will be doing all the choking just until the Eastern Playoffs and not in front of the whole world during the finals. HAHAHA.

You can’t hype the magic as long as you have rashard (casper) lewis on your team. And my Blazers are gonna end up with Turk at this rate. So the magic are a 2 and a half man team with Vince, DHow and Casper..
I hope my man Sheed goes to the C’s and he, KG and Ray of Hope go out like old dudes together with another ring..
