Clip Of The Day: “Death of Autotune”
This just in, LeBron James and Jay-Z are good friends! Ok, maybe that isn’t exactly news worthy, but King James does make a nice lil’ cameo in Hov’s new video for his single “Death of Autotune”. Mr. James and Mr. Carter share a moment on the court together, although neither one really seems to do much. LeBron isn’t the only one who gets some shine in the vid though, Harvey Keitel and Jay faceoff in a game of cards.
“Death of Autotune” is the first single off of Blueprint 3, Jay’s 11th solo record expected to come out on September 11th. The single bashes the current onslaught of autotune based songs and artists that have been taking over the airwaves for the past year or so.
While some are sick of the autotune craze and are thankful “real” hip-hop artists like Jay-Z are taking a stand, others just see it as progression of musical styles and feel that artists with Jay’s perspective are old and out of touch with the tastes of the masses.

Nuthin against autotone except for the fact that every artist that uses it just spit or sing hot air. And it is used in lieu of actually trying to create music instead of enhancing it now.

yeah, not so much. i’m one of those real hip hop heads and the autotune thing was OKAY to mess around w/ if you wanted to do a song differently or even just to mess around, but its ridiculous now w/ the way its become the format now. not a fan. dudes like lupe, mos, talib, com, the roots crew, immortal technique, nas, outkast, little brother, big L, dilla… even mf doom!, thats what i love and appreciate. hip hop’s gone so commercial now its crazy.

@ RJC, if you’re asking me my favorites are in no particular order: Mos, Kweli, Nas(though IMO he’s fading), Rakim, black thought, Common, Wyclef, Jada, slaughterhouse, and a bunch of underground Christian MCs u probably never heard of. Not that i’m an authority on hip hop but I know since I am an MC and spent some time studying the craft. If JayZ was really going against autotune and the new fads i’d love it but it sounds like he’s taking advantage of our furstration and just saying the same thing. Nas’ hip hop is dead said it even better couple years ago. What saves Jayz on this track is the beat.

Shawn Carter is one of the richest persons in the whole entertainment industry. he is a record executive, record producer, fashion designer, media mogul and a big businessman in general. Beyoncé is his wife for Gods sake!
at age 38 and being absurdly rich, Jay-Z definitely doesent NEED to rap or promote his own record.
With D.O.A, he just speaks from the heart, having fun mocking all those wannabe singer clowns.
Kanye co-produced this btw, so you know he wouldnt front Jay on that one.
It´s like Funk Flex and Mister Cee said it on the Hot 97 show when D.O.A. was first aired:
