Jonny Flynn’s Impressive Summer League Opener
Jonny Flynn’s 11-point, 7-assist performance isn’t one of the best stat lines of the summer league thus far. (Rodrigue Beaubois‘ 34-point outing, and the Tyler Hansbrough/Roy Hibbert domination a la Duncan/Robinson both trump Flynn’s night.) But he looked really good as a playmaker, getting rave reviews from David Thorpe’s twitter-analysis.

The criticism of Flynn going into this draft was that he’d be unable to finish over the 7-footers in the League. For a story we’re working on, I asked a Timberwolves scout about the validity of that analysis. He was adamant that Jonny will be fine finishing in the lane, as he loves to “cut the length out” from a big guy by drawing contact. That couldn’t have been better demonstrated in the middle of his highlight reel.

Johnny Flynn=Stud (Rick’s wolves are in the playoffs.) The next coming of a healthy Baron Davis watchout. Triple double machine. He’s just as good as Chris Paul coming out of college w/ a better shot well just have to see how it translates to the league. He’ll be fine if given the green light.

Ok Dime, I know you have man love for Johnny and you have a relationship with him from the draft diary, but this post is pretty transparent on the heels of Marcus William’s 17 assist, one turnover game last night – AGAINST Russell Wesbrook – which was wayy better than anything Johnny has done so far.
Johnny loves you for this, though.

This man is the future of the NBA. He has the humbleness of Lebron James and shoots over 40% in summer league. Curry is shooting well below 40%. Maybe if Curry took steroids he could step to this…but Curry is afraid of the potentially dangerous side effects and will not take said product.
