I’m not going to lie – if you had told me when he was drafted in the 2006-07 Draft that three years later Adam Morrison would be in serious, serious danger of being out of the League, I would’ve said you were crazy. Did I think he was a lock to be an NBA star? Definitely not. But at the very least, I saw him as being a valuable scorer in some team’s rotation.

Guys like Tyreke Evans, Stephen Curry and Brandon Jennings are making headlines with standout stat lines, but one of the most consistently impressive rookies in the Vegas Summer League so far has been DeMar DeRozan. Four games in, he’s steadily improving — last night DeRozan put up 20 points on an efficient 9-for-16 from the field (56 percent) against the Suns — and is showing he’s got more to his game than running, jumping and dunking. (Not that he didn’t throw in a couple highlight-reel bangers.) With Anthony Parker headed to Cleveland, DeRozan should be Toronto’s opening day starting two-guard, and between Jose Calderon and Hedo Turkoglu‘s playmaking, and Chris Bosh drawing double-teams, DeRozan should have plenty of opportunities to succeed early. As I’m writing this, the final minutes of the Michigan/Seton Hall 1989 national championship game are playing on the Big Ten Network.
That game was special for me because it’s my first real cognizant memory of college basketball. Probably because the Final Four was in Seattle that year, I remember the game being on at my grandparents’ house even though neither one of them cared much for basketball.
