In his effort to recruit Trevor Ariza away from a verbal commitment that he gave to the Rockets last Thursday, LeBron dropped a bomb on T.A.
“Trevor asked LeBron if he would be in Cleveland after next season,” the source said. “And LeBron said, ‘I’ll be there. Of course, I’ll be there.’”

Basketball is back. Kinda. If you don’t live in a playground hotbed like NYC or Chicago, and you’re not so desperate that you’re watching classic games on NBA TV and trying to pretend you haven’t seen them before, the Orlando Pro Summer League debuted yesterday to fill the NBA void … Since nobody really cares who wins the games, we’ll just look at the stats: The Celtics rolled out what could be both the worst and the slowest NBA frontline tandem ever, starting Robert Swift (20 mins, 4 pts) and Mike Sweetney (15 mins, 3 pts, 5 rebs) against Utah. Asked by the Miami Herald if he felt as though the Heat were falling behind in the free agent arms race compared to other Eastern Conference contenders, Dwyane Wade gave his honest opinion. “At this moment, yeah,” Wade said. “It’s a lot of teams that got better – real fast.”
News sources are picking up the story, presenting Wade as issuing something of an ultimatum to the Heat that they better bring in some talent, or he’s gone.
Well, no shit.

Joe Dumars did this once before. He added virtually every vital piece of Detroit’s championship team bit-by-bit through trades and the Draft. In 2000, he acquired Ben Wallace via trade. In ’02, he added Tayshaun Prince through the Draft and Rip Hamilton by dealing Jerry Stackhouse. In ’04, Joe D picked up Rasheed Wallace in a trade.
The biggest difference between building that championship-caliber squad and his task this offseason, is that he’s attempting to do all of this in one year.

Big Baby and Rasheed Wallace were polar opposites during the playoffs. Davis surprised a lot of people by filling in for an injured Kevin Garnett on the offensive end, accounting for about 16 points and 6 boards per game. On the other hand, ‘Sheed turned in one of the least inspired performances in recent memory, essentially quitting in Game 4 of the Detroit/Cleveland series.
So naturally, the Celtics go after Wallace with the mid-level exception – and reportedly won’t match a rumored offer that the Spurs are making to Davis.

My boy Jacoby wrote on his Twitter page the other day, “If the 2010 NBA off season is Wu-Tang, than this offseason [is] Boot Camp …not as impactful and celebrated but fun as hell none the less…”
Somehow that made perfect sense, plus I’m glad I’m not the only person who still appreciates Boot Camp. More importantly, what is it about the NBA’s offseason that makes it so popular, almost like another sport in itself? Why do people who hardly ever ask me actual basketball questions during the season hit me up all the time in the summer about trades, signings and the Draft? Read More »
