If Ricky Rubio Really Wanted to Screw Minnesota

Ricky Rubio

We met Ricky Rubio and his family in the Dime/Levi’s Draft suite. Though it was a brief interaction, they didn’t seem like the type of people who would throw a giant temper tantrum until they got exactly what they wanted.

By fretting about going to Minneapolis, Rubio’s team has inspired virtually every NBA squad to make an offer for him. But David Kahn is holding the line. If Rubio really wants to screw the T-Wolves, he does have one option though. Read More »

Trevor Ariza Is This Year’s James Posey

Trevor Ariza

When I read last night that Trevor Ariza might be leaving the World Champion Los Angeles Lakers, I didn’t know what to think. But then it hit me: Trevor Ariza is this year’s James Posey. And just like I told James last year: Don’t do it! Read More »

Detroit makes first free agent splash, and Z-Bo finds a home

Ben Gordon

They say it’s not really free agent season until somebody gets at least $50 million richer — meaning we’re officially underway now that Ben Gordon cashed in with the Pistons for 50 mil over five years. Detroit also reached an agreement with Charlie Villanueva for $35M over five years, giving the team almost an entirely different core from the one that played in the conference finals just 13 months ago. This isn’t going to be the defense-first, everybody-gets-equal-shots squad we’ve gotten used to … Two questions that popped up as soon as the Gordon news broke: Read More »

Breaking News: Clippers Trade Zach Randolph to Grizzlies for Quentin Richardson

Breaking news: Pistons sign Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva

Ben Gordon

The Pistons have dominated the headlines this week: first when Joe Dumars fired head coach Michael Curry on Tuesday, and now with the news that the team has agreed to contracts with free agents Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva.

Gordon’s deal is reported to be for five years, $50 million, while Charlie V is getting broke off for $35 million over five years. Read More »

Rudy Fernandez not cool with Hedo-to-Portland rumors

Rudy Fernandez

The Blazers were supposed to have a logjam at small forward last year, when Travis Outlaw and Martell Webster were expected to battle with rookies Rudy Fernandez and Nic Batum for minutes. But then Webster — the one initially penciled in to start — suffered a broken foot that pretty much forced him to miss the entire season, and everything somehow worked out fine.

This offseason, it’s about to get even more congested. Read More »

Yi Jianlian vs. New York’s playground elite

Yi Jianlian

Yi Jianlian originally registered on the international basketball radar as the un-Yao Ming. Instead of a genetic breeding experiment who was more relatable to Iron Giant than Hoop Dreams, Yi was billed as China’s answer to Allen Iverson; a city kid who mostly honed his game on the playground before getting tied up in China’s notoriously rigid sports academies.

It really shouldn’t come as a surprise that Yi can get busy in a streetball setting; especially when you throw in the fact that he’s 6-11, pretty athletic and has a soaking wet jumper. Read More »

Jason Kidd’s Dallas offer: $9M a year for three years

Jason Kidd

“If [Jason] Kidd is truly willing to play a lesser role and/or take a big pay cut — which everything about him as a player says he would be — he immediately improves a contender’s chances. He knows his place and limitations offensively, and Kidd’s basketball IQ is high enough that he could adapt to any system … Everything is in place for Kidd to find the right match this summer. His entire career he’s played a winning style of basketball, and it’ll pay off for him next year.” Read More »

World’s Biggest Goth Kid joining the Celtics

Robert Swift (photo. NBA)

Meet the Celtics’ newest Summer League roster addition, Robert Swift. After the Patrick O’Bryant project didn’t work, Danny Ainge is taking another crack at resurrecting a once-promising career. If you remember, Ainge was very high on Swift going into the ’04 Draft, but the Sonics grabbed him first and Ainge was stuck with Al Jefferson. Read More »

Clip Of The Day: “Death of Autotune”

This just in, LeBron James and Jay-Z are good friends! Ok, maybe that isn’t exactly news worthy, but King James does make a nice lil’ cameo in Hov’s new video for his single “Death of Autotune”. Mr. James and Mr. Carter share a moment on the court together, although neither one really seems to do much. LeBron isn’t the only one who gets some shine in the vid though, Harvey Keitel and Jay faceoff in a game of cards. Read More »
