Sources: Nate Robinson To Stay In New York

Nate Robinson

Nate Robinson decided he didn’t want eat souvlaki every day and rejected a two-year, $10 million offer from the Greek basketball club Olympiakos. Instead of playing overseas, many media outlets are confirming that Nate The Great will stay in New York by signing a one-year contract for about $5 million. Read More »

Tony Parker Injured In France

Tony Parker

The San Antonio Spurs have arguably had the best offseason of anyone in the League. They added Richard Jefferson for nothing, signed free agent Antonio McDyess, somehow managed to pick up DaJuan Blair in the Draft, and maybe know something no one else does about this guy, officially re-stocking a roster that can clearly contend for a title during the few years that Tim Duncan has left in the tank.

None of that means anything though with Tony Parker in the mix, which is why this report this morning has undoubtedly led to legions of Spurs fans collectively throwing up in their mouths: Read More »

Top 50 Sneaker Stores: No Boys Allowed (#40)

No Boys Allowed

Just like an art collector scouring the globe for a masterpiece, sole searching sneaker fiends will go to great lengths to find an exclusive pair of kicks. Back in Dime #25 (August 2006), we put together a list of the Top 25 Sneaker Stores when the kick game had never been bigger. But while that list was limited to mostly US spots, we decided in our 50th issue to take it worldwide. Read More »

Dallas signs Drew Gooden, and the latest on Iverson and Odom

Drew Gooden

Once upon a time, Drew Gooden would be considered a big-time offseason pickup. And even though he’s technically still a guy who can get you close to a double-double every night (11.9 points, 7.1 boards last season), nobody seems to consider it a big deal that Gooden signed with the Mavs yesterday. Dallas needed depth in the frontcourt after losing Brandon Bass and just missing out on Marcin Gortat (plus Ryan Hollins could leave as a free agent), and Gooden’s one-year deal for $4.5 million isn’t a bad risk. Team USA wraps up camp, and Stephon Marbury has issues

Eric Gordon & O.J. Mayo

The summer league re-runs were fine, but nobody would’ve complained if NBA TV sent some cameras down to Vegas last night and aired the Team USA mini-camp exhibition game. Rudy Gay (27 pts) and Kevin Durant (20 pts, 8 rebs) were the stars of the show, with Brook Lopez (18 pts, 5 rebs) also turning in an impressive performance … There could be three or four spots open for the 2010 World Championship: We can see Boozer and Tayshaun being gently asked to step aside, Jason Kidd calling it an international career, and Kobe even taking a break after another long playoff run and finally getting that pinky fixed. Blazers sign Andre Miller, and the dumbest story of the week

Andre Miller

Everybody’s still waiting on Lamar Odom and the Lakers to reconcile — it’s like sitting through three seasons of “Flavor of Love” when you know Flavor Flav is just gonna stay with his baby’s mother in the end — but in the meantime, perhaps the second-biggest free agent left on the board is now off. Andre Miller agreed to a deal with the Blazers that is rumored to be worth $22 million over three years … Depending on what you think of Jerryd Bayless‘ game, point guard was one of the few weaker areas on a deep Portland roster. Miller allows Steve Blake to go from one of the lower-tier starting PG’s in the League to one of the best backups, and Bayless can step into that role of off-the-bench scoring combo guard that every team seems to need these days. Breaking: Blazers to sign Andre Miller to 2-3 year deal

Andre Miller

According to sources in Philadelphia and Portland, Andre Miller has agreed to a contract with the Blazers believed to be for 2-3 years.

“It’s a perfect fit, I have always felt that way,” agent Andy Miller told the Oregonian, adding that the Blazers are using almost all of their remaining cap space, around $7.7 million. “I think he can take the Blazers to the next level in their quest for a championship.”

‘Dre Miller averaged 16.3 points and 6.5 assists for the Sixers this past season, then bumped is scoring to 21.2 ppg in the postseason (5.3 apg, 6.3 rpg). We’ve already been over how this move makes the Blazers better, but the flip side if Philly gets a lot worse. Losing Miller means Lou Williams has the inside track to start at point guard, with rookie Jrue Holiday behind him on the depth chart.

Lowering the rim: Only the worst idea ever

Candace Parker

It’s starting to become a spring/summer tradition: One DimeMag.com writer takes his shot at defending/promoting the WNBA, while trying to get to the bottom of why the particularly vocal WNBA haters hate the league so much. Since most of the Dime crew pretends like they’re allergic to women’s basketball, I figured it would have to be me doing the dirty work every year, until Ben York stepped to the plate yesterday.

So I’m not here for that. I just want to address one of the “solutions” critics (sometimes seriously, sometimes jokingly) often propose to raise the WNBA’s profile: Lowering the rim. Read More »
