EA NBA Live 10 - Gameplay Preview

As per usual, the haters were out in force when we posted the EA Sports NBA Live 10 preview video yesterday, and a lot of our readers were commenting about looking for improved gameplay. We have this video to run today to showcase some of that, in particular, the game’s player dribble moves.

If the defender would stumble/fall that would make it look even more impressive.

  2. spursfan says:

    nba2k
    period

  3. c-viz says:

2k is garbage!!! all the players move like they are on skates and their eyes look like they are PCP, haha. i’m surprised real ball players like that game, its so fugazi

  4. Jase says:

smh… lookin’ like another disaster in the makin’

  5. NTstateOFmind says:

sure those dribble moves look sick when we’re watching EAs demo
…but how do they control during regular gameplay???

  6. jay26th says:

All those moves have been in nba2k for the last couple years.

Live is just too arcadish of a game. It feels like you have no control over your player and just get stuck in animations. Plus the player models stink compared to nba2k.

  7. JA says:

    47 seconds in … I definitely saw a crab-dribble

  8. Amar says:

EA always goes for presentation over actual ballplay — which is sad, but it’s been true since the days of Lakers vs. Celtics, complete with the 1988 nba playoff rosters for the IMB PC or clone. (in 4 colors)

while I’ve felt like the individual ball control is better in live (using the right analog stick is better than trying to do everything on one stick, sorry 2k), why do all of those players have the same animations. does lebron really dribble the same way as CP3? nope . . .

  9. muwu says:

Agree with Amar, all those dribble moves looked exactly the same

  10. Kobeef says:

When I have free time I choose to play REAL LIFE 2K9 basketball.

I find it helps to keep my legs, back, stomach and arms in shape where EA only works my thumbs.

Dido, that has been a major problem with NBA Live/EA games. Showing highlights of Dirk crossing MF’s up is not what i’m looking for in a game. Show him post up on the elbow and shoot a high arching fadeaway (terrible shot BTW), or show him shooting 3’s. but please no crossovers. Same with Lebron

  12. asmaticasiatic says:

the euro step drose used was a nice touch….

  13. HackmanJones says:

I’m sorry, but I’ve been playing NBA games for years and this looks like some trash…everyone was doing the same dribble moves and after they made their move to the hoop, everyone was still standing around…At least 2K responds quicker…EA has fallen off over the years

  14. Dennis Castro says:

2k has been sh!tting all over Live for the past few years, and I expect this year to be no exception.

  15. Mr. Wang says:

That’s nice that Live ‘10 is coming out on Oct. 6th…….. it’ll prob be the same day i PURCHASE NBA 2k10.

  16. Skeez says:

    what happened to the vid?

  17. stephensonmc says:

Guys, we have tons of unique dribbling moves in our game this year specific to players.

I can assure you that LIVE feels like a new game. I get where your frustrations with LIVE are coming from, but DIME’s not kidding you when they say the game is alot better. It will look and feel like a different game to you when you play the demo.

We’re back guys, give it a chance with the demo, then let us know how you feel!

  18. JCARR says:

2K10!!! and its their 10th anniversary… DIme you dealt with the wrong basketball videogame because EA Sports is still years behind 2k Sports…

I cant wait for NBA 2k10 I’m getting the 10 anniversary edition with the locker and everything!!

  19. Bron42 aka Had Springs before Slamball says:

@Dime, Whens C.G.F comin back cuz lately all you guys have been doin is bitchin at the readers who disagree with anything you sputter out and call them haters. Live has been crappy for years but were haters for not talking your “got the game for free and can’t talk bad about EA” hype as gospel. Someone says lebron can’t shoot and suddenly its “oh the lebron haters” for writers you guys need to pick up a thesaurus and find another word for hater as much as you guys milk it these days jeez….and just cuz the pg can have some knock off isomotion and dribble flashy in place or “size up” their guy (which is gonna pretty much kill team-up games) Live 2010 will still suck.

  20. Amar says:

    @stephensonmc

don’t talk to me about “a whole new game”. aside from Lakers vs Celtics I own: NBA Live ‘95, ‘97, ‘98, ‘99, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and have bought the last two ones, played them for a bit, then sold them because I did not wish to own them — they were not good games. yet, I kept hearing “whole new game”, or some other market research driven buzz words.

You guys try a lot of stuff, and I appreciate it. I am, def. a live fan if you look at my support for your product over the years. Just look at last year’s version — if you were running your franchise and choose to practice a scrimmage, it would never end. your own choice was to exit it, and lose any benefit to playing it in the first place. very odd.

You guys have to bring it this year, or I wont buy your game. That includes giving copies of your game to reviewers (gamespot, ign, 1up.com, kotaku, etc) BEFORE the official release date so that they can actually review the product. (instead of EA mothballing it in the press so no one can honestly write about how poor it is)

As I said, I’m a Live fan. I greatly appreciated Live back when EA was making the game for the PC, where the modding community could add stuff to the game. (you know, like changing cosmetic issues, like back when EA Sports used to give Andrei Kirilenko brown hair — like they didn’t even scout the players or watch games before making a game about a sport) I think having more than one button for shooting is a great idea. I don’t shit when I want to take a piss. I don’t take a piss when I want to shit. Other gamers should be so trained not to hit the layup button when they want to shoot. It’s not hard.

I think the freestyle control has always been better. (even if in this video the animations appear very similar, regardless of ball handling ability and player size / physique)

Last year I think there were WAAAY too many player attributes. does it make for a better game? I don’t know, I could not get by the long-ass load times between screens. (even switching something that takes very little time in 2k took a long time in live, like switching which team’s roster you were looking at with the R1/L1 buttons)

There are flaws. Put out a good demo and you will get me interested. Put out a full game that can be reviewed before the official release date and I will be even more interested. Get glowing reviews and I may just buy it.

Yes, Live needs glowing reviews to earn me as a customer again. Especially after last year where the game looked pretty, but people were missing 2 foot jumpers and layups like it was a WNBA game. sorry, but Tim Duncan doesn’t miss a layup on a fast break. That’s not in the game, why is it in the EA game?

  21. stephensonmc says:

We think we have that game for you my man! Thanks for holding out hope.

  22. Fraz says:

The NBA Live isomotion has always been laid out better with the use of the right thumb stick. But gameplay was without question subpar to 2K. Its a team game and Lives gameplay was weak in that regard. Amar, I like you have bought Live every year since ‘95. Last year was the final straw. Not only was gameplay horrible but in many aspects it was completely broken. Fans know it and the Dev’s know it too.

Rebounding was completely broken. Shots off the backboard were an automatic miss. The 2K series has not had the same level of graphics but, its been much deeper gameplay wise and feature wise in terms of actual basketball. The Live365 stuff is cool and interesting but it didn’t translate to making the actual gameplay more fun or authentic. The ESPN streaming is great, amazing even, but it didnt make the actual basketball matches against the comp or my boys better at all.

I look forward to checking out the new demo stephensonmc but as a long time supporter and fan of your product, I dont think the guys at EA understand how far they have to go to restore credibility in their products and convince a fan like me to support your product again. Hope you guys really did step your game up this year. I’ll be watching.
