NBA Trade Rumor: Marcus Banks To Dallas For Matt Carroll
I’m pretty sure that Mark Cuban could sell snow to eskimos, because that’s the only thing that makes sense in my mind when I read that Toronto might take Matt Carroll (and the $16,400,000 he’s owed over the next four seasons) off Dallas’ hands in exchange for Marcus Banks. Sure Banks is making almost $10 million over the next two years (which is crazy!), but at least the dude has shown that he can play in the NBA… or at least the NBA Summer League.
Would you want either of these guys on your squad?

Not a bad trade for Toronto. Matt is a respectible 3pt. shooter (career 40%). With Anthony Parker going to Cleveland, he may get 8-10 mins of burn at SG to relieve DeMar. The trade also gives them leverage in terms of cap space for 2010 (4M againist nearly 10M).
Smart move for Toronto.

Hilarious that the only highlights of a guy with a $10 Million contract are from summer league.
Carroll’s contract saves the raps about 1/2 a million dollars next year and truthfully the Raps are only trying to land one player – Bosh – in 2010 so they are not too worried about cap space.
Carroll is a good insurance policy on Bellinelli/DeRozan in case they don’t work out/need more time.
The Raps have no use for Banks with Jack and Douby on the roster already filling that “combo-guard” role.

Raps decided they needed another white guy on the team.

Two questions:
One, when has Banks shown he can play in the NBA? and two, who the hell signed Banks to his ridiculous contract? I can’t remember.

Banks is set to continue his streak of carefully holding Shawn Marion’s ‘hand’. They will finally be reunited!!!

@Spliff
If memory serves me correct – and you won’t be surprised – Steve Kerr and the Suns decided that Marcus Banks was the man to back-up Steve Nash and gave him a $20 million deal..or something close to it.
Since that time Banks has been traded twice – both times in package deals with Shawn Marion for Centers (Shaq, Jermaine). Ironically, this deal would re-unite him with Marion….

Aron Phillips – you obviously have no idea who Banks is or what his capabilities are… or shall we say, what he is incapable of doing… PLAYING BASKETBALL….
BC turned a full time suit on the bench to a potential 3rd option who can shoot 40% from the 3pt…
PLUS, with cap going down next year the RAPS actually SAVE money…. its a win win situation…

Aron,
I’m sorry to say this but it seems as though you have some issues with the city of Toronto or the just the raptors organization. It is clear that you are letting these emotions cloud your judgement. If you cant see that Toronto is clearly winning in this trade you should probably steer away from writting about anything that has to do with the Raptors alltogether. I know a lot of Toronto Fans are crazy and dont always have rational explinations for there feelings but that is not me. I cant believe that you think Marcus Banks has shown he can play in the NBA. He hasnt done anything, hense why he keeps getting traded…..the one summer league game was a fluke and when you can tell me what he has done besides that one blip in his so called career I’d be suprised. The dude is a worse version of smush parker…..lol
Thats all I have to say about that….Aron stop writting about stuff you dont know or are bias on.
PEACE!

I’ll take Carroll over Banks any day, this is not even a discussion.

Aron Phillips says:
Guys, clearly I’m kidding around about Banks’ game, hence the only highlight clip being from Summer League. Being a Celtics fan, I was pissed when we drafted him and he was a complete bust. At the same time, I have nothing against Raptors fans, but don’t kid yourselves about MC. Look at his game log from last year – embarassing. Sure he might shoot a good percentage on about the same amount of shots I took the other day at 96th and 1st, but don’t get it twisted – he’s not Kapono.

Marcus Banks can score and defend, he just can’t pass….that’s why he never gets his chance

Diego says:
Aron, you ever see Carroll play for Charlotte? Dallas apparently just didn’t have room for him.
Carroll is alright and can fill Kapono’s shoes. (What the hell did Kapono ever do?–Win a couple of contests at the All Star break and have 1 nice year with the Heat.)
Toronto gets a good-sized, hungry (he worked his way up from the D league–(But didn’t Banks too?)), sharp-shooting 2 guard.
Good move by Toronto.
August 20th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
Scott says:
Meh, Carroll really isn’t going to see any tick in Toronto. I for one am a Raps fan that gets the move is 100% salary driven, and I’m fine with that. If dude does something for us, great, but if not, its cool he’d be doing just as much as Banks would be, and saving us money to boot.

Brown says:
The Raps have depth at the 1 (Calderon, Jack, Douby, Banks) and needed depth at the 2/3 (Turkoglu, DeRozan, Bellinelli, Weems). Jack can play some 2, but Weems and DeRozan haven’t shown a consistent outside shot, which is what Carroll can do. He’s a one-trick pony, but he’ll at least give the Raps some insurance in case of injury.

Matthew says:
ARON,
You’re right he’s not kapono……Matt Carol realizes his strengths and tries to play within his specific skill set…..that was kapono’s problem he kept trying to do way more than he is capable of doing which got him into trouble…..kapono is garbage! I feel that just like in 06/07 as he did with the bobcats he can fill his role and come in and fill it up from 3 point land.
In regards to your comments on the trade I would much rather have Matt Carol than marcus banks sitting at the end of the bench.

utahJZZ says:
This is honestly a horrible trade for the T-Dot.
Matt Carroll is a good player, much better then Marcus Banks, but Carroll’s under contract until 2013, and Banks is on until 2011. The raps are loaded with guards; Calderon, Jack, Belinelli, Derozan, Wright, Douby. There is simply no place for Carroll on the Raptors. Marcus Banks is a good teammate, and a hard worker, so keep him until his contracts over instead of wasting valuable cap room on a Jason Kapono clone

FK says:
Carroll – who can play – is way more tradable than Banks if nothing else.
The Raps have some pretty mediocre guys, but at least they give Collangalo wiggle room in 2-for-1′s.
I wont be surprised when a mid-season deal packages any two of O’Bryant, Wright, Belinelli, Douby, Evans and Amir Johnson for a single player coming back…
