Ron Artest: “Kobe’s Probably The Closest Person To Michael Jordan”

Ron Artest

While all the internet chatter lately has centered over which team has had the best offseason, Ron Artest must believe the Lakers are head and shoulders above the rest, comparing the Lake Show to the Bulls of the late 90s. Read More »

Does anybody want David Lee?

David Lee

Thank Oscar that the program directors at NBA TV decided to start showing some of the best games from the ’08-09 season in neat little one-hour increments this week, otherwise the general inactivity these days would draw a basketball fan stir crazy … The NBA free agent landscape is like combing through the used CD rack at a store that’s already been raided by the broke college students: There’s still some interesting, slightly attractive product, but nothing too great. Case in point: The most intense “bidding war” lately has been over C.J. Watson — a second or third-string PG on most teams — and that just ended since the Magic pulled out of negotiations and it’s looking like C.J. is headed back to the Warriors … Meanwhile, David Lee is the biggest name left on the board that anybody seems to want (sorry, A.I.). Andre Iguodala and Thad Young Open New House of Hoops

house-of-hoops-cherry hill-andre iguodala

Yesterday afternoon, a bunch of the crew was at the Cherry Hill (N.J.) Mall (about 20 minutes outside of Philly) to celebrate the opening of the country’s fourth House of Hoops by Foot Locker (the other locations are Harlem, Chicago and Los Angeles).

The celebration was done right, as Andre Iguodala, aka “Chief Blocka,” and Thad Young came through to talk about the Nike Hyperize shoe, The Hyperizers, and to answer questions from more than 100 local kids who, after taking part in basketball skills clinics in the morning, were brought in for the event. As you can see, ‘Dre was in his full Hyperizer getup. Read More »

New “Rip City” Blazers Uniforms?

rip-city

This image just popped up on our Twitter feed from @blazeoflove with the question, “New uniforms?”

Blazers uniforms with the words “Rip City” on the chest is either the best thing or the worst thing ever. We can’t decide how we feel about it. And if these are official, are we looking at “Motor City” Pistons and “Clutch City” Rockets unis (among others) shortly? (click on the headline for a larger look)

What do you think?

NBA trade rumor: Amir Johnson to Toronto

Amir Johnson

A few days after Amir Johnson got some votes in our unofficial “Who is the worst starter in the NBA?” poll, his stint in Milwaukee might be over before it begins.

According to the Toronto Star, Johnson is part of a rumored trade that would send him and a so-far unknown Bucks player to the Raptors for Carlos Delfino and Roko Ukic. Read More »

NBA Trade Rumor: Knicks Pursuing Ricky Rubio

Ricky Rubio

Ricky Rubio on the Knicks almost makes too much sense, for so many reasons. And talk about a lure for potential free agents next summer? Not only would a big time free agent get to play in New York, but he would also get to run with a pass-first playmaker who would only want to get said star open looks.

Here is what our friends at RealGM are reporting: Read More »

D-Wade finds his politician side

Dwyane Wade

Seeing as LeBron has given 15,000 “I’m cool where I’m at/I love Cleveland” interviews and yet you’ve still got dudes in New York City hawking homemade LBJ #23 Knicks jerseys on the street, there’s really no point in superstar free-agents-to-be saying anything about their situation in the months before they hit the market. Especially when they have a chance to sign a contract extension and don’t do it. Dwyane Wade probably gave Miami fans a lift with some recent quotes in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel: “Next year will be a big year for myself and for the team, but the plan has always been to stay with the Heat, and that’s still the plan,” Wade said. Agent Zero, playground hero

Gilbert Arenas, Dime #29

Back during his peak, one of the things we loved about Gilbert Arenas was that he’d randomly show up at D.C.’s famous Barry Farms court to play in the Goodman League, putting in work against the D.C./Maryland area’s best playground ballplayers with the same attitude that he’d go at Deron Williams or D-Wade on an NBA court. But then the injuries started to pile up, and even when he was healthy here and there, Gilbert understandably wasn’t as much of a presence on any concrete court while Kevin Durant took over the mantle as the NBA’s Barry Farms regular. On his way back from this latest injury, though, Arenas has not only looked like his old self indoors, he’s also back on the playground. Read More »

The experts pick LeBron & Shaq to win the East; Starbury is done

LeBron James

This will get the LeBron haters’ blood pressure up. The Orlando Sentinel polled 11 “NBA experts” (a.k.a. media) to handicap the Eastern Conference for next season, and the Cavs were given the No. 1 spot. The Celtics ranked second, and Orlando third. Apparently replacing Hedo Turkoglu and Courtney Lee with Vince Carter and Matt Barnes was seen as a step backwards for the Magic, while a healthy Kevin Garnett and the addition of Shaq helped pushed Boston and Cleveland to the top … Read More »
