After putting together the modified Top-50 list of players from the ’08-09 season, I had about 50 leftovers who just missed the cut. And from that, there could’ve been a whole sub-category titled “Wait ‘Til Next Year.”
Going position-by-position again, here are five centers who look the most ready to crack the 2010 Top-10 with their performances next season: Read More »

The amount of kicks that I come across on a daily basis is crazy, so it really takes something special for me to get excited. That’s why when I saw the Jordan Moments Collection, which brings together three legendary Jordan Brand sneakers to honor MJ’s ongoing contribution to the game, I started calling in favors across the country. Yesterday’s “Where are they now?” post on Troy Bell generated a lot of discussion of our favorite has-beens. We saw all sorts of names: Dajuan Wagner, Scotty Thurman, Harold Miner and even David Benoit. So we’re going to do what we can to dig up information and catch you up to speed on everyone.
One name I saw come up that really struck a chord with me was Omar Cook. Read More »

Perhaps I’m just the only one, but I feel betrayed. It’s like when you go to a party and a girl tells you that she’ll meet you there and either a) doesn’t show up or b) is making out with some other dude in the corner. The point being, you set your sights on someone, made the effort, laid the ground work, and then you’re left high and dry and with no Plan B. I imagine that’s how the Timberwolves feel right about now. Read More »

Last time I checked, the only “stars” on the Grizzlies were O.J. Mayo and Rudy Gay. But apparently after he did a little work two weeks ago helping Iran win the FIBA Asia Championship, Hamed Haddadi thinks he deserves to be on that level. Read More »

A little while back, we were invited to kicked it with Dwight Howard at the EA Studios in Vancouver, Canada. While going head-to-head in NBA Live 10 in a private room, we were able to fire away some questions at this season’s cover athlete about critics of his offensive skills, the time he beat Vince Carter in a dunk contest and the “100 Pushup Rule.”
Dime: When did you find out you were going to be on the cover of NBA Live?
Dwight Howard: This past year. At first I was like, “Are they lying about being on the cover?” And once I found out, I was like, “Oh, this is tight, I have to do it.’

Here we were, glad to see Isiah Thomas handling everything perfectly so far in his tenure at Florida International — even going above and beyond in recruiting — and then the reminder comes along that scandal (even if it’s silly) just seems to follow Isiah around like that jheri curl aroma followed A.C. Green for so many years … Here’s the story: FIU was scheduled to play in the early-season Coaches vs. Cancer tournament, and initially believed their first opponent would be Ohio State. But then they found out the tourney schedule had been changed, and OSU was replaced with North Carolina. Now FIU is pissed, and threatening to pull out of the tourney. Read More »

In just his first season, Mario Chalmers proved he could make the transition from March Madness hero to a solid NBA player. The former Kansas Jayhawk put together a very nice rookie campaign. He started all 82 games for the Heat and averaged 10 ppg, 4.9 assists and 2.0 steals – which was fourth best in the NBA. In the playoffs, Chalmers bumped up that steals average to nearly three a game and was a key contributer to a Miami squad that pushed the Hawks to seven games.
Just an hour ago, I hit up Mario, who was chilling at home in Alaska.

Just like an art collector scouring the globe for a masterpiece, sole searching sneaker fiends will go to great lengths to find an exclusive pair of kicks. Back in Dime #25 (August 2006), we put together a list of the Top 25 Sneaker Stores when the kick game had never been bigger.
