The 9-Year-Old Basketball Prodigy
We’re always skeptical when someone throws around the term “prodigy,” but no doubt about it Jaylin Fleming can hoop.

Kudabeen says:
Just recognize the love of the game…why hate on the kid.
He is healthy, he is getting his grades, he already has better interview skills and presence than 50% of pro ballers and 90% of the wanna be pro ballers…
I like seeing a kid that loves the game. I was like that with football as a youngin. I just love to make people miss, run the field, the challenge of being the fastest to the ball, intercepting passes…no one even taught me how to play or introduced me to the game. I just loved to play…
Kids play, so why are we so black hearted when these stories come about kids loving to play the game rather than being impressed by the skill level and ability to pay attention.
go rag on the kids running around on Ritalin or shooting up schools, not on a kid with good grades and found something he loves…
eHaters…

Kudabeen says:
So if he talked like Bill Gates, Bob johnson, Steve Jobs, Mark Cuban, John Boogle, Warren Buffet, Lawrence Ellison, Michael Bloomberg, etc he would be wrong too…
Grow up.
Let the child emulate something positive.
I’d rather him talk like LeBron and spend his free time in a basketball gym with older teaching him skills, then have him talking like Lil Wayne and spending his spare time on the corner with older boys teaching him ills…
August 5th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
Yoooo says:
YO kudabeen I feel you 100%… If he would have came out talking like that moron wayne, i would have broke my computer.
The only thing I see wrong with this is that his dad mentioned the word “career” already… He’s looking at his sons gift as a business already.

Kudabeen is spitting hot fiya. he’ll eat yo ass up on the MIC.
As for the child prodigy. I coach basketball for an AAU program here in IL and we see kids like this all the time. There was rumors of one kid having an agent and he was only in the 6th grade. Now obviously that’s impossible and would ruin his amateur status, but that’s how parents talk. Later on when I was watching the kid dominate one game, some parent out the crowd got pissed off at him and was talking about running on the court and beating him up because he pushed her son down. The kid was only 12, the parent in her 30’s-40’s.
so this is nothing new, just hope the kid doesn’t turn into a Felipe Lopez(cant live up to the hype) or worse a Lenny Cooke (didn’t get the grades).

karizmatic says:
I think the fact that he “talks like Lebron” is a double edged sword. On the one hand the kid sounds articulate on the other hand it reflects how early handlers are getting to these kids. He’s obviously coached in all the right things to say. But saying the right thing and doing the right thing is very different. As we have seen from Kobe, LBJ, D-Wade, etc. Let’s hope he’s got someone in his corner teaching him that he needs actions to follow up those big words.

STUPID. How many players don’t even start until their teens? I’m talking HoF guys. LOTS.
Michael Jordan said it best – grow your love of the game young, and you’ll build your skills as you’re older. These kids are being ruined by parents that don’t make them study as hard as they hoop. ALSO, who knows if this kid will actually, you know, GROW any?
August 6th, 2009 at 10:20 am
Sho-Nuff says:
Agreed with #11….He has a wierd jump shot. All that teaching from the pros at NBSA and his guide hand is still off.
You can find kids like this at every court in every city. There’s always one kid who can play a little better than the rest, have that “prodigy” submit his video when he’s 13 and reaching that little equalizer called “puberty”.
And how many 9 year olds “feel blessed”…..c’mon man…
How you going to put your son on the news and he not have at least an edge up? Damn!

We have kids killing each other here in Chicago, selling dope and dropping out of school.Kid’s should have dreams regardless of how young they are and what impossible obstacles may exist. The NBA is not important. What’s important is to pursue a positive endevour. And even if not achieved you beat the percentage of those who didn’t have the heart to try because of the words of the naysayers.Martin Luther King taught us,Barak Obama proved to us, and Adidas coined the phrase “IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING

it’s crazy that there are a bunch of people on here talking down about a nine year old child that will probably murder yall on a basketball court. O.J mayo was an nba prospect when he was in sixth grade and if he would have listened people like yall then he wouldn’t be in the league now. I know this kid and he is humble and acts like a child but when he is on the court he is all business. stop hatin and trying to discourage this young man because God has his hands on him and regardless of what you say he’ll will prosper.
