The 9-Year-Old Basketball Prodigy

We’re always skeptical when someone throws around the term “prodigy,” but no doubt about it Jaylin Fleming can hoop.

Give it a couple of year till some 13 y/o gold digger gets her calws into him !!!

  • BRUCE

    I like the reporter!

  • JCarr

For Gods sake this kid is 9 years old and he is already getting interest from colleges! Just because he can dribble extremely well and can shoot like the matrix. in few years the tag of “prodigy” will disappear.

  • n32g

jillian jesk is mad finneeee lol, only good part of da video

  • http://www.dimemag.com bullet380

    Let the exploitation begin!

  • timmy D

terrible parents and coach. Let these kids just play and stop swelling their heads up sooner than they already will

  • Kevin K

you see 1 or 2 kids like these in every 4th or 5th grade rec leagues. wait till the other “normal” kids grow up.

  • lakers

they are just brainwashing him..ive seen kids as good or better than him at a smaller age…

  • karizmatic

I like him…the kid is good.

  • marcus the great

jumpshot looked pretty ugly to me

  • edub

this kid is messed up already, he’s talking like Lebron

  • weezy f

the kid is gonna have attitude problems..but damn the reporter is baaad.

  • Kudabeen

Just recognize the love of the game…why hate on the kid.

He is healthy, he is getting his grades, he already has better interview skills and presence than 50% of pro ballers and 90% of the wanna be pro ballers…

I like seeing a kid that loves the game. I was like that with football as a youngin. I just love to make people miss, run the field, the challenge of being the fastest to the ball, intercepting passes…no one even taught me how to play or introduced me to the game. I just loved to play…

Kids play, so why are we so black hearted when these stories come about kids loving to play the game rather than being impressed by the skill level and ability to pay attention.

go rag on the kids running around on Ritalin or shooting up schools, not on a kid with good grades and found something he loves…

    eHaters…

  • Kudabeen

So if he talked like Bill Gates, Bob johnson, Steve Jobs, Mark Cuban, John Boogle, Warren Buffet, Lawrence Ellison, Michael Bloomberg, etc he would be wrong too…

    Grow up.

Let the child emulate something positive.

I’d rather him talk like LeBron and spend his free time in a basketball gym with older teaching him skills, then have him talking like Lil Wayne and spending his spare time on the corner with older boys teaching him ills…

  • Yoooo

YO kudabeen I feel you 100%… If he would have came out talking like that moron wayne, i would have broke my computer.

The only thing I see wrong with this is that his dad mentioned the word “career” already… He’s looking at his sons gift as a business already.

  • that’s whats up

What about Ed Pubic-Skin, the President of The National Basketball Shooters Association?

NBSA??? Is that real???? ..and how do I get a job there?

“Aww Honey, I had a tough day…. I had to shoot like 400 jumpers and then I had to go scout some six year olds. I think I’m gonna turn in early…”

  • http://www.nukedasouth.net Chicagorilla

“I’d rather him talk like LeBron and spend his free time in a basketball gym with older teaching him skills, then have him talking like Lil Wayne and spending his spare time on the corner with older boys teaching him ills…”

Kudabeen is spitting hot fiya. he’ll eat yo ass up on the MIC.

As for the child prodigy. I coach basketball for an AAU program here in IL and we see kids like this all the time. There was rumors of one kid having an agent and he was only in the 6th grade. Now obviously that’s impossible and would ruin his amateur status, but that’s how parents talk. Later on when I was watching the kid dominate one game, some parent out the crowd got pissed off at him and was talking about running on the court and beating him up because he pushed her son down. The kid was only 12, the parent in her 30′s-40′s.

so this is nothing new, just hope the kid doesn’t turn into a Felipe Lopez(cant live up to the hype) or worse a Lenny Cooke (didn’t get the grades).

  • Simon

This kid is well on his way to being a supreme baller. Get him the Leroy Smith Motivizational DVD’s from http://www.getyourbasketballon.com and he’ll be set!

  • M Intellect

Damn it must be a slow day at the Dime office.

  • Bron42 aka Had Springs before Slamball

the down side is most kids like this are burnt out by 16…and the shooting coach sounds like the guy from the waterboy

  • timj

Ice Cream over Derrick Rose anyday of the week

  • TheQuestion03

Prodigy? Pshh, I would DESTROY him one on one…u can spread ur fingers out all u want kid but imma swat that shit into the parking lot….then im gonna back ur ass down till u cry

  • KT

Forget the prodigy…that reporter is a nice prospect.

  • The Real Deal

i wonder if the reporter would like to play two balls.

  • karizmatic

I think the fact that he “talks like Lebron” is a double edged sword. On the one hand the kid sounds articulate on the other hand it reflects how early handlers are getting to these kids. He’s obviously coached in all the right things to say. But saying the right thing and doing the right thing is very different. As we have seen from Kobe, LBJ, D-Wade, etc. Let’s hope he’s got someone in his corner teaching him that he needs actions to follow up those big words.

  • Swedish Mooze

This sucks… he’s not even half way to NBA eligibility and he’s got people counting (and counting on) his money… Dime, you should leave this crap on outlets like mouthpiecesports.com.

  • WizFan301

did anyone else think this was a joke????? …. i could stand to hear him speak

  • zmafuel

Love it. My favorite: “I’ve just living a blessed life right now…” This kid at 9 yrs old has perspective better than half the NBA…

  • Marci

    LOL @ comment 24

  • http://www.worldstarhiphop.com c-viz

crazy, if he doesnt grow to be 6’4″ he’ll never be a pro. theres a million good shooters out there. good work ethic and swagger but all the elite talent has that. NOW Jordan Montgomery, he is NBA for sure!! google him. BTW i wanna see game footage of this kid. ima 6’6″ shooting guard and if you watched me workout you might think im i the league, but that dont mean ish!!! everyon look nice in an empty gym, lol

  • weezy f

Yea its not hard to get good grades in elementary school

  • razzle

    The chick can get it…

Back to the topic… The kid is 9, and people treating him like an NBA superstar. Get the fuck out of here.

  • 45%

this shit made me flat out laugh my ass off.

  • KWAME

this sux for the kid…mad agents and gold diggers are gonna be on his meatsack…he is very eloquent though for a nine year old…i def didnt talk like that…

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Powerslave

He’s gay, doesn’t even look at the reporter when talking to her.

  • jryu

    his grammar is terrible…

  • Paul

STUPID. How many players don’t even start until their teens? I’m talking HoF guys. LOTS.

Michael Jordan said it best – grow your love of the game young, and you’ll build your skills as you’re older. These kids are being ruined by parents that don’t make them study as hard as they hoop. ALSO, who knows if this kid will actually, you know, GROW any?

  • http://www.espn.com Sho-Nuff

Agreed with #11….He has a wierd jump shot. All that teaching from the pros at NBSA and his guide hand is still off.

You can find kids like this at every court in every city. There’s always one kid who can play a little better than the rest, have that “prodigy” submit his video when he’s 13 and reaching that little equalizer called “puberty”.

And how many 9 year olds “feel blessed”…..c’mon man…

How you going to put your son on the news and he not have at least an edge up? Damn!

  • Saku 39

Jashaun Agosto could take him. Look him up.

  • Mikey F Baby

    damn jillian is lookin good

  • http://allthatjazzbasketball.blogspot.com/ Amar

when the reporter was going all: “now show me that one thing you really like” I was waiting for him to drop the basketball and go for a full-on 9 yr old tittie grab on a 20 something young lady, who, btw, would have been totally asking for it.

  • http://allthatjazzbasketball.blogspot.com/ Amar Acharya

    with TWO hands!

  • john fleming

    GET OFF THE DEVILS PAYROLL

  • john fleming

We have kids killing each other here in Chicago, selling dope and dropping out of school.Kid’s should have dreams regardless of how young they are and what impossible obstacles may exist. The NBA is not important. What’s important is to pursue a positive endevour. And even if not achieved you beat the percentage of those who didn’t have the heart to try because of the words of the naysayers.Martin Luther King taught us,Barak Obama proved to us, and Adidas coined the phrase “IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING

  • ronald guyton

it’s crazy that there are a bunch of people on here talking down about a nine year old child that will probably murder yall on a basketball court. O.J mayo was an nba prospect when he was in sixth grade and if he would have listened people like yall then he wouldn’t be in the league now. I know this kid and he is humble and acts like a child but when he is on the court he is all business. stop hatin and trying to discourage this young man because God has his hands on him and regardless of what you say he’ll will prosper.

  • joe

wowww u grown mother fuckers hatin on this little boy grow the fuck up and do somethingwith ur life the kid is good so fuck off

  • http://Gmail.com Ben

yea jaylin you doin good man keep working on your game and keep working hard.

  • aleks

his fathers parenting skills are more amazing to me….father of the century if you ask me….more parents should take lessons from Jaylins pops…..it would be a better world if they did….GREAT JOB POPS!!!!!
