We Reminisce: White Chocolate’s Top 10 Plays
Jason Williams was out in Westchester, N.Y., yesterday to work out for the Knicks – a move that would have had multiple implications if they were to sign him. But according to Newsday this morning, even though J-Will “looked good,” he probably isn’t going to be lacing ‘em up in NYC any time soon.
It got us to thinking (and looking on YouTube) for the J-Will of yesteryear, and we found this. Seems like a lifetime ago when Jason Williams warranted appointment viewing status.

behind the back, off the elbow, in a NBA game…sick.

he can play in ORL. no one seems to be able to give Dwight the ball where he wants it.

the cynic says:
i might have missed it, but where was his infamous elbow pass?
August 5th, 2009 at 11:12 am
ShowKase says:
Yea, I gotta agree with gorilla and cynic. If the elbow pass aint on this list, then this top 10 aint valid.

Spliff 2 My Lou says:
Wasn’t that Mike Bibby at #5?
J-Will definitely had the behind the back pass down pat.
I agree, where’s the elbow pass?
August 5th, 2009 at 11:17 am
Spliff 2 My Lou says:
My fault it wasn’t Mike Bibby at #5. It looked like him though right down to the bowleggedness and headband.

the_don_mega says:
the elbow pass was from the rookie game right? i think the recipient of the pass was Raef Lafrentz… white chocolate was the ish… he made the Kings fun to watch back then… the whip pass to big nasty was also awesome…
August 5th, 2009 at 11:27 am
Patrick Cassidy says:
the elbow pass and the killing GP are both glaring omissions. his move on GP signaled his arrival to the mainstream basketball fan…

Plus, probably the worst music for a highlight reel, ever.

Definitely wasnt his top 10 plays. And that music was just GAY

I can’t believe his faomos bowling ball pass(es) isn’t on here!
August 5th, 2009 at 11:41 am
Steve A says:
Ya this list is pretty much of J will with the shaved head in sac town.
August 5th, 2009 at 11:43 am
Steve A says:
Since he showed up in the league, I can’t recall any player being able to do the things he could with the ball in his early years. He was never as good as Chris Paul or someone like that obviously, but he was defnitely one of a kind.

Ya Boy was nice…so was my Kings squad back then. What about that Nike commercial he was in bouncing the basketballs to the beat…that was tight.

kings back then were so much fun to watch.
they never recovered from that robert horry shot…

jzsmoove says:
With his erratic shooting aside, White Chocolate was damn so good. Good treat. With respect to Mitch Ritch who had to carry a severely flawed team yearly, this crew from Sacto put the kings on the NBA map.
August 5th, 2009 at 12:21 pm
Michorizo says:
Raef LaFrentz missed the dunk/layup off the elbow pass cuz he was fouled…whoever fouled him in the rookie game, took a little away from a great highlight
August 5th, 2009 at 12:22 pm
BRUCE says:
3 years of ass-whooping by the Lakers put the Sacramento Queens on the map. There was never a LA/Sacramento rivalry. It is not a rivalry until you win one, that is playoffs series!
August 5th, 2009 at 12:26 pm
BRUCE says:
It was James Posey that committed the freaking foul.
August 5th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
JoeCozi says:
J Dubb by FAR has the best highlight package of any nba player not named Michael Jordan…This wasn’t even his best plays and he still killin….nobody since Jdubb has come in with as much style and flair as he brought while still getting the job done!!
August 5th, 2009 at 12:51 pm
Austin Burton says:
@JoeCozi — I have to disagree with you there. Vince, Dominique, LeBron, Kobe, Wade, Kidd, Iverson, Drexler and Kemp could all be in that discussion, so I wouldn’t say JW has the 2nd-best “by far.” It all depends on what you like, though.

smity far away says:
that elbow pass was the greatest pass i’ve ever seen live. good for him that he got his ring as a main contributor.

Lol, i miss the old sactown. Vlade, a Bald white chocolate, and Chris Webber-mean-mugs.
Who decided that music was fitting for his highlight reel?
August 5th, 2009 at 1:10 pm
Kudabeen says:
JoeCozi:
Huh?!?
Best Highlight package than Isiah, Iverson, Pistol??
I love J Will game, but that is a very tough claim to prove.
Isiah Thomas’ in game Alley Opp of a bounce pass behind the three point line is one of these best BBall highlights I’ve seen. That was never duplicated in the NBA. The confidence and the execution. Wow.

Dayoungsta31 says:
JWill was just as flashy and better in Memphis and had mad highlights to Pau,Posey,Swift and Bonzi
But man those Kings days made me fall in love with basketball all over again.
Who can forget
Wrap around dribble n layup against Philly
Full court oops to Abdul Wahad
jump dribble against Bibby
Runnin one hand reverse layup under the backboard against the Suns
Faked screen n crossover on Stockton and hittin the 3
Behind the back in traffic to Webber against the Jazz 99 playoffs
Fake wraparound behind the back pass n layups against Brian Grant n Detlef.
3s from 2 steps inside half court
Fake pass n reverse layup against mo taylor
All Rookie year crazy
I want JWill back in the L nobody can pass like him he makes the game easy for scorers and damn fun to watch.

karizmatic says:
Despite the criticism this was nice anyway…Ricky Rubio can only hope to be this good. Watch what I say.
August 5th, 2009 at 1:25 pm
Austin Burton says:
@Kudabeen — Why have I never seen that Isiah ‘oop before? WOW! I had to watch it like 10 times. I don’t understand why that isn’t on every NBA highlight package. If Chris Paul did that today, it’d be called the greatest play of all-time.
August 5th, 2009 at 1:48 pm
Dayoungsta31 says:
Ricky Rubio maybe the closest thing to JWill we will see ina long time.
But for me Im excited to see how Brandon Jennings pans out dude is like the new Nick Van Excell not as good a shooter but his game is flashy I hope Skiles dont lock him down n lets his game shine.
The NBA needs guys like JWill because there game sells itself back in 99 his Jersey was top not from advertising and national tv games but from sportscenter the fans loved him instantly.
Im lucky to have over 300 games of JWill in Sacto and Memphis and watch them all the time he made the game so much fun his game is timeless he can do things with a ball I never seen he inspired me and my game and that will never leave me.
Great memorys
August 5th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
Chicagorilla says:
I’ve been watching the NBA home videos on NBATv and JWill was on a few of them. His rookie year was sick and filled with highlights (thanks GP). the 3/4 court alley oop to Tariq Abdul Wahad was on f^king point from that far away!
will there be another… yes, his name is Brandon Jennings. If he focus’s on passing (and Skiles doesn’t kill him), he’ll be sick for years to come. Handles the ball better than JWill, but can’t pass as well. But they are both willing to try anything on the court.

did gary payton post these, because something is missing hmmmmmm
August 5th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
gmoney says:
Yeah this top 10 is garbage considering what was left out and the music. The crossover on payton is an alltime ankle breaker and it wasn’t on here? Proposterous, ludacris, and a down right slap in the face to any “top 10″ ever made…
August 5th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Kudabeen says:
Austin:
Man I’ve always wondered why that pass by Isiah, Marbury’s Reverse one hand alley opp going away from the basket, and Iverson’s climbing up Camby’s back for a dunk put back is not giving more press, but then I looked at the persona behind the players. It made me understand how selective media and the NBA PR guys can be.
None of these electric guards sustained positive star images. We can see the most obscure Mickael Pietrus or Ronnie Brewer highlight before seeing any of those plays in an all-time great moment package…
August 5th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
Kudabeen says:
IamRich:
LOL!
That GP highlight was made even greater, by Gary’s expression…”He did to me??” as well as the fact that J Will looked like a prep player sans tats and “low-boy” cut.
