Jamal Crawford Will Dunk On Your Face

I remember watching Jamal Crawford back in the 2002 Rocky Mountain Revue Summer League in Utah. On one play Crawford – then a member of the Bulls – rose up and tried to smash one on Portland rookie Zach Randolph. Although he missed the dunk, the effort drew a lot of oohhs and ahhs from the crowd. Because he’s always shooting threes and crossing people over, Crawford displayed hops that day that I didn’t know he had.

Based on this video, it looks like ‘Mal is ready to unleash the beast in Atlanta this season. He looks bulkier and hopefully he’ll attack the basket as hard as he did against the victim in this video (although catching Dwight or Shaq might be a little tougher).

    haha COOL

he STILL is a huge underachiever.

  2. chebs says:

didnt he go off the glass n dunk it wen he was in chicago

  3. fan says:

He’s not an underachiever. His teams have been horrible. He’s going to thrive in Atlanta and prove his worth. Skill always looks better winning. Take Ginobli for instance would he be considered as good on another team. Let’s go w/ Derek Fisher. Him starting for a losing would mean what for his game. Fall back and embrace game. He’s young & talented and has a chance to win. Scores with the best in the league. He’s practically unguardable when he takes good shots. He fills the Flip Murray void and more. He has to pick up his defense at least try. That’s his biggest hole. If he could defend he’d be an All Star.

  4. Scott says:

The dunk really wasn’t THAT impressive, he didn’t get that high, and dude who went for it didn’t really get there in time to do much but get in the video.

Still, I’d love to see Jamal bust out this season with ATL, and help them continue to improve. They’ve got a hell of a core, if Horford can really break out this season, that’s a team not many want to mess with.

  5. thedoc says:

He traveled…shuffle step right before take off.

  6. Kobeef says:

I really hope Atlanta can find a way to make Jamal a starter. He’s got the skill to push them to the next level if they use him. JJ could play SF which would open a spot for Jamal at the 2 and make the Hawks a scoring machine.

  7. Promoman says:

    Jamal’s problems are:

    1) he ballhogs

    2) doesn’t defend outside of intercepting passing lanes and he tends to bullshit even in that category.

  8. Kudabeen says:

His 08-09 highlights were really impressive after this dunk video ends.

Ronnie Price, Rip and Ray Allen got the worst of it from Jamal. Especially Ray (damn)…

I wouldn’t say he is an under achiever condsidering no one expected him to be Kobe or anything special. He has never really been given the opportunity to do his thing. It is always a restriction of demand on him to do more than what he is great at. His handle and scoring are incredible. He is a longer ben gordon with better handle and finishing.

He and Flip Murray are straight Ball players. They are swiss army players that need flexibility. Handle, play making, mid range scoring, attacking the basket and even a little D no and again are within their skill set, but who were their coaches.

Crawford has had poor coaches and teams his whole career. And a poor coach doesn’t just mean X and Os or anything. For instance Nellie is a great coach for a certain style and team. He wasn’t a good coach for Crawford, because he needs to have a man crush on a player to allow the player to play his game…What he did with Jamal last year was ridiculous.

  9. Diego says:

Great write-up by Kudabeen. Jamal will get to play and have plenty of minutes this year. Reality is (and no one in ATL is noting this) that Hawks only have 4 guards on the roster this year (so far), period: JJ, Bibby, Teague (a rookie), and Crawford. (Also Mo Evans who is alright, but can’t exactly handle the ball.) And Bibby is bound to miss games due to injury–so then just 2 vet. guards, plus rookie, plus Mo.

Flip got the big green light last year and look for Crawford to have same this year.

Bobcats signing Flip is huge for them (although they may not know it yet). Flip can ball and now I actually am just a bit concerned about Bobcat threat.

  10. fan says:

Flip Murray is stupid. Streetball at it purest form working in the league. If he could just knock down that 3 more. He’d be a Starter. I wish he came to N.Y. He was TERRORIZING Lebron/Wade/Hinrich in the rookie/sophmore game. He scores when he wants. Very good acquisition. Denver missed one with this.

  11. Bizz says:

@5, Um, that wasn’t a travel. Looks like you definitely wouldn’t make the cut for NBA replacement refs.

  12. fan says:

Kudabeen….I second the seriousness of that write-up. You made me more of a fan of Flip. LOL.

  13. SLAM SUCKS says:

THATS NOT BIG DEAL. THAT SHIT HAPPENS ON EVERY PLAYGROUND IN AMERICA EVERYDAY. AND IT WAS A TRAVEL, BIZZ. THAT LITTLE STEP BEFORE THE PLANT COUNTS.

  14. SLAM SUCKS says:

FLIP CAN KNOCK DOWN ALL THE THREES HE WANTS AND STILL NOT START. HES NOT CONSISTENT ENOUGH TO START.

  15. POPPI GEE says:

Kudabeen I gotta chime in and say you what you wrote was 100!

  16. POPPI GEE says:

Kid in the background is hilarious at the end
    “ohhh SHI&!”

    to funny!

  17. bill says:

do you remember when Crawford entered the league and wanted to lead the league in assists and steals……………He really did not play that way :)

  18. james p says:

    @chebs
Yeah He dunked it off the glass twice during the season during the game when he played for chicago. Who else did that? not any 1 I can think of. Thats when I realized he got some decent dunking skills.

  19. doc says:

Bulkier my ass.He just playing against little dudes.

  20. Ike with the Iverson Jersey says:

Crawford doesnt get payed like a back up.

    M.Bibby
    J.Crawford
    J.Johnson
    J.Smith
    A.Horford

  21. Kudabeen says:

    Ike:

That is a playoff Lineup! But they will probably start Marvin at the 3 and have JJ at the 2 and bring Jamal off the bench to spell Bibby and/or JJ…That might be more effective.

I don’t know what Teague is going to bring to the team. I do think he has potential to be much better than Bibby, because he is a better athlete and his shooting isn’t that far behind. Mo Evans can rotate at the 2/3 and ZaZa is a functional big not afraid to mix it up.

Only if their organization wasn’t constantly in some sort of perplexing situtation. Woodson going to make it all work??

I like their team though. Better than my Sixers unfortunately…

I can’t wait to see how Sixer’s young guys look this year. Thad, Jason Smith and Speights. Also I think Lou will work out better than people think, because Dre I is the play maker on the team most times. Elton has to show something…

Has the season started yet?? its taking forever…

  22. fan says:

Sixers are not that good. It’s going to be a long year. The Eastern Conference has gotten mightily better. They also got worse.
