Looking at the Charlotte Bobcats’ roster is like looking at the cast of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air and not having Will Smith. The Bobcats have several solid supporting players, but are missing the one thing every team must have: a star.
By this I mean someone whose job is to get buckets night in and night out. Someone who can get his shot off at anytime and you can rely on to take the last shot. Someone who has star power and can attract media coverage, fan interest and NBA free agents. While the Bobcats made some noise last year and competed for the 8th seed, I seriously doubt they can build on their season without a prolific scorer. Read More »
While some of the Dime crew will be in Springfield this week for Michael Jordan‘s Hall of Fame induction, I don’t think any of us will have the loot to bid on this: the backboard and rim that received MJ’s last-second winning shot in the 1998 NBA Championship. Read More »
Fresh off his breakup with Khloe Kardashian and a solid outing at the UNC alumni game, it’s time Rashad McCants starts thinking about finding a job. Assuming McCants doesn’t want to play with his ex’s new boyfriend (Lamar Odom), that leaves 29 teams for him to choose from. But of those 29 teams the Nuggets, Bobcats and Heat have all expressed interest in signing the free agent guard. Read More »
On personal and professional level, not many professional athletes had a year as bad as Eddy Curry. Last season, the 6-11 Knicks center battled injuries and weight problems that sidelined him practically the entire season. His image took a huge hit after he was accused of sexual harassing his personal driver last January. He also had his $5.6 million Chicago house (the same one where he and his family were robbed at gunpoint in back in ‘07) foreclosed on. And worse of all, he tragically lost his ex-girlfriend and daughter to a horrible murder in Chicago.

With Bruce Bowen retiring last week and John Stockton headed for the Hall of Fame this week, the concept of the “dirty” basketball player has been in discussion around the Dime office.
Even the casual NBA fans knows about notorious thugs like Bowen, Bill Laimbeer and Ron Artest, who wind up on “SportsCenter” with every elbow, slide-under ankle-breaker, hip check and hard foul they deliver. But you really have to watch the games to point out the guys who are sneaky-dirty; the ones less like Bowen and more like Stockton, whose slight-of-hand acts don’t get as much attention as the guys with reputations that precede them. Here are 10 of the sneakiest/dirtiest, a.k.a. The Wood Harris All-Stars: Read More »
Summer is a good time to realize you’re getting old. The knees hurt a little more after outdoor pickup games; the beach abs take more than eight minutes to get in presentable shape; and the honeys your age start looking less and less like the ones who draw all the attention on the street.
Putting together Dime #51 during the hottest part of the summer, we found this issue to be alarmingly young. Our cover guy, Kevin Durant, turns all of 21 years old this month. Eric Gordon, who also has a prominent feature in the issue, doesn’t turn 21 until December. And the anchor of Dime #51 is our giant fashion photo spread with the ’09 NBA rookie class, whom we shot at the Dime/Levi’s Draft Suite during the biggest week of these players’ lives. Read More »
Not much happening basketball-wise on this side of the ocean for Labor Day, but in Europe it was all about the FIBA European Championships. And right away there was a huge upset, with Serbia knocking off Spain on the first day. It’s pool play, so Spain isn’t eliminated or anything, but it’s still and alarming loss for a squad that’s a favorite to win the whole thing. In Spain’s defense, Rudy Fernandez didn’t play, and Pau Gasol (9 pts, 7 rebs, 1-8 FT) is dealing with a broken finger on his left hand. (Ricky Rubio had six points and three assists.) Serbia made a big run at the end of the first half and led by 15 at the break, eventually winning by nine. Nenad Kristic led the winners with 17 points and six boards … Read More »
While the Air Jordan 1 Retro High paid tribute to the game when MJ dropped 63 on Larry Bird and the Celtics on April 20, 1986, the Jordan 60+ fuses all the past releases during Jordan’s 60+ point games. Read More »
