It’s safe to say that Kehinde Wiley is the LeBron James of the art world, turing the whole game on its head. So if you’re in NYC today and not doing anything, you have to check out his new exhibition, Black Light, over at Deitch Projects. Read More »

Similar to the Vegas/Orlando summer leagues, you don’t want to read too much into the FIBA Americas tournament as far as projecting how its standouts will do in the upcoming NBA season, especially when Team USA sat this one out. But it’s hard not to be impressed by Leandro Barbosa‘s recent work and predict big things for him this season. In leading Brazil to the tournament gold medal yesterday, as well as a spot in the 2010 World Championships, Barbosa averaged 21.1 points on 55% shooting from the field. It was a down year for Barbosa in ’08-09. Read More »

NBA training camp is still a few weeks away, so Saturday was all about college football. Some basketball-related notes from the day’s action: Greg Paulus lost his first game as Syracuse’s starting QB, racking up 167 yards on 19-of-31 attempts with one touchdown against Minnesota, but he threw a crucial pick in overtime (‘Cuse was also 1-for-12 in converting third downs); Javier Arenas (Gilbert’s cousin) had a handful of kick/punt returns in fifth-ranked Alabama’s win over No. 7 Virginia Tech, but didn’t break any for a long gain … With Ramon Sessions spoken for, the only two point guards anybody is looking out for in free agency are Allen Iverson and Ray Felton, and the former’s eventual destination likely has a big impact on the latter’s next move. As if the Raptors don’t have enough big expectations to live up to this year — what with bringing in high-priced free agent Hedo Turkoglu, high-profile rookie DeMar DeRozan, and Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani in “make or break”-type seasons — now Chris Bosh has put the franchise squarely under the gun … In a radio interview, Bosh was of course asked about his 2010 free agency plans: “I want to win a championship one day, plain and simple,” Bosh said. “I like the fact that we’ve revamped our team, we’ve addressed some weaknesses — but I think this year does play a key role in my decision next summer.” Read More »

Thanks to our boy Skeets, we just heard that former Celtic/Laker Rick Fox has been added to the cast of “Melrose Place.” Wow. Let that sink in for a minute. While the show premieres on The CW on September 8, Rick is only in one episode so far, the eighth of the season. Don’t worry though, according to the Hollywood Reporter, his role will be recurring.
This got me thinking: Read More »

If you ask me, NBA GMs are just trying to clear their desk before the long weekend. First we hear restricted free agent Ramon Sessions signs an offer sheet with the Timberwolves, then we hear that restricted free agent David Lee is expected to sign a one-year deal (somewhere in the $6 million-to-$8 million range) with the Knicks at some point after Labor Day. All I can say is it’s about time. Read More »

While earlier we reported that Ramon Sessions could sign an offer sheet with Minnesota, ESPN.com’s Chris Sheridan is now reporting that Sessions agreed to sign a four-year, $16 million offer sheet with the T-Wolves with the paperwork being processed this morning. Read More »

While I’m definitely a fan of the Nike Air Trainer 1, there is nothing that beats the original Nike Air Trainer SC from the “Bo Knows” days. Inspired by Bo Jackson‘s time at Auburn, this OG colorway is one you definitely don’t want to miss. Read More »

Yesterday, I wrote a post about the Nets and how they had one of the best young cores in the league. It got me thinking about all the other top young teams, so I decided to rank them. I know “young core” is kind of a vague term that technically could include CP and the Hornets, the Jazz and the Magic. So I set up a couple of parameters.
By young core, I mean players who have not accomplished much yet in their young NBA careers and are still paying dues. I’m talking about players and teams that are not quite ready to contribute anything big this upcoming season, but will be right there in the mix two or three years down the line. All of these players are relatively young, have no more than three years in the league and have not been all-stars or major contributors in the playoffs. Read More »
