Red flags have been popping up left and right around Delonte West as of late. Obviously a few weeks back he was arrested near his native DC for weapons charges. Just one day after he faced the media for the first time since the incident, West has managed to once again be a distraction for the Cavs by not showing up for the first day of training camp. Every NBA team has a go-to guy, and there’s really only room for one. And it’s not strictly who takes the last-second shot. It’s the guy who regularly gets the ball when things are getting tense in the fourth; the guy expected to calm things down when teammates are getting sloppy; the guy called upon to snuff out an opponent’s rally, or spark a rally of his own; the guy who’s not just supposed to make shots, but make the right decisions. Bottom line: Who do you want the offense to run through when everything is on the line? From #30 to #1, these are the League’s best go-to guys…Read More »
I remember watching Jamal Crawford back in the 2002 Rocky Mountain Revue Summer League in Utah. On one play Crawford – then a member of the Bulls – rose up and tried to smash one on Portland rookie Zach Randolph. Although he missed the dunk, the effort drew a lot of oohhs and ahhs from the crowd. Because he’s always shooting threes and crossing people over, Crawford displayed hops that day that I didn’t know he had.
Based on this video, it looks like ‘Mal is ready to unleash the beast in Atlanta this season. He looks bulkier and hopefully he’ll attack the basket as hard as he did against the victim in this video (although catching Dwight or Shaq might be a little tougher).
I know what you’re thinking. You see that it’s an A.I./”Practice” remix and you tune it out because it’s been done to death. I did too, and didn’t watch it the first few times I saw it floating around online. But then one of my boys, a guy who is almost always on point with must-see web nonsense, sent it to me last night so I checked it out.
If you haven’t seen it yet (and a lot of you probably have – it has more than one million YouTube views), watch it now. Jim Mora is awesome and then T.O. at the end is the capper.
Unless your name is Monta Ellis, everybody comes to media day with a positive outlook. All the players and coaches say all the right things and deny any issues may lie beneath the surface. And that’s how it was yesterday between Baron Davis and Mike Dunleavy at the Clippers’ media day. Last year, the two had several mini falling outs – stemming on their disagreements on what offense to run. It was no secret Davis wanted Dunleavy out. Read More »
NBA training camps are underway, meaning it’s time again for Dime’s team-by-team season previews. Last year we debuted the “Highs and Lows” system — predicting the respective ceilings and basements for each team. In other words, what is the realistic best-case and worst-case scenario for the 2009-10 campaign?

Yesterday must have been unofficial Sh*t-Talking Day around the NBA. With most teams kicking off training camp this week — check out the first installment of Dime’s team-by-team season previews HERE — most teams are having their annual preseason Media Day, and a few guys have been talking reckless. Monta Ellis raised the most eyebrows in Golden State. Ever since the Warriors took Stephen Curry and didn’t trade him to Phoenix, the rookie has been penciled into the starting backcourt next to Monta. But apparently nobody ran that idea by Cold-Vicious. “Us together? No. Can’t. We just can’t,” Monta said, sounding like somebody had asked him to film a Brokeback Mountain scene. Read More »
One person who is not going to be fined for “tweeting” at halftime is Gilbert Arenas. The Washington Wizards star was once regarded as the Howard Stern of the basketball internet world. Before the Twitter craze started, Arenas had arguably the most popular athlete blog in the country. Agent Zero was extremely candid and humorous as he blogged about everything from pranks between his teammates to his thoughts on the NBA. But if you expect Arenas to entertain you online this year, it’s not happening. Read More »
