The NBA’s Best Kept Secret

Devin Harris

When talking about the NBA’s top young cores, it seems like everybody is riding Thunder’s bandwagon. And deservingly so. With Durant, Green, Westbrook and now Harden, the future is going to be scary. Memphis and Minnesota’s young talent is also generating a lot of buzz all over hoops blogs and websites. One young core that is not getting any love is the New Jersey Nets. Scanning the roster up and down, I can not only see then being relevant in the East a few years down the line, but I can also see them being relevant this year.

I think after they traded Vince Carter down to Orlando this offseason, a lot of people wrote them off for this upcoming year. Read More »

Russia’s Alexandre Shalygin Wins The Euro Dunk Contest

Euro Dunk Contest

After putting his mark on the Dunk planet to the point of becoming its international ambassador, Kadour Ziani passed the torch to a new generation of dunkers this past weekend in Bucharest, Romania. Among a ridiculous crop of talent, it was the Russian Alexandre Shalygin a.k.a. “Shal” who literally flew over the competition to run away with the title. Read More »

The Denver Nuggets Need To Make This Move Right Now

Bruce Bowen

Last year the Nuggets finished 54-28, won the Northwest Division and pushed the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals. What did they do this offseason? Lose Linas Kleiza to Europe, lose Dahntay Jones to Indiana and lose J.R. Smith to a seven-game suspension. So while the other elite teams in the West reloaded this summer, it’s about time Denver does the same. Read More »

How Minnesota can forget about Ricky Rubio (for now)

Jonny Flynn

On Wednesday, Ricky Rubio talked about his decision to put the Wolves on his waiting list and stay in Spain: “Going to Minnesota would have just complicated my life a lot. It was a risk,” Rubio told the Associated Press, adding that “the deal with Minnesota had too many obstacles.” (Stephon Marbury co-signed on that “complicated my life” part, sending his well wishes from Planet Lovetron.) Come 2011, though, the biggest obstacle standing between Rubio coming to the Wolves might not be his contract buyout, but Jonny Flynn. Now that he’s got the starting PG job, Flynn has as good a shot at anybody at winning Rookie of the Year. Read More »

The Ultimate NBA Training Workout

elite-24-hess

Yesterday on HighSchoolHoop.com we posted our recap and video of the next-level performance training session that the Boost Mobile Elite 24 athletes went through the day before the Elite 24 game. The 45-minute session was run by Denver Nuggets strength and condition coach/Under Armour TNP Performance Training Council member/Dime contributor Steve Hess (pictured here giving Montrose Christian’s Terrence Ross hell in one of the session’s drills). Random Question of the Day

Evander usually a good reason for every loss

What’s the biggest “asterisk” you’ve seen somebody use in a real-life situation?

The Fantasy Doctor has always suggested we do a regular column called “*Asterisk* of the Day,” calling out the best/worst excuses used by public figures. Because when you cover sports for a living, the old saying “Excuses are like a-holes; everybody’s got one” becomes more real than ever. Read More »

5 power forwards to watch for 2009-10

Kevin Garnett

After putting together the modified Top-50 list of players from ‘08-09, I had about 50 leftovers who just missed the cut. And from that, there could’ve been a whole sub-category titled “Wait ‘Til Next Year.”

We’ve gone over the point guards, centers, two-guards and small forwards. Now here are five power forwards who look the most ready to crack the 2010 Top-10 with their performances next season: Read More »

Jerry Sloan Has No Beef With Carlos Boozer

Carlos Boozer

Being a Jazz fan can be very dramatic. We hold Kevin Federline-sized grudges and we take everything personally. Karl Malone wants to leave us for the Lakers? We hate you and will boo you. Rony Seikaly and Derek Harper don’t want to play in Salt Lake because of the lack of nightlife? Ditto.

Right now, Carlos Boozer is comfortably holding down the top spot on Jazz fans’ sh*t list. Previous to this summer, Boozer was already skating on thin ice with Utah fans because they feel his play is inconsistent, he doesn’t play hurt and he always expresses his interest in playing for Miami. Boozer’s inability to keep his mouth shut this summer was the final straw for Jazz nation. Read More »
