We Reminisce: Vintage Latrell Sprewell
With the last free agents still looking for teams, there’s one guy that always comes to mind: Latrell Sprewell. Walking away from the game at a time when he could have still held his own on any of the NBA’s 30 teams, Spree decided it was time to hang it up. I bet there are still teams that would sign the guy, even if he just turned 39.

Promoman says:
His prime years were wasted playing out of position while he was in New York. He should’ve been playing shooting guard instead of small forward. That bullshit he pulled with his “Feed my family” stance when he was about to get overpaid put the final nail in his NBA career.

Shrink This says:
The best 24th overall pick of all time.
Did take douchebaggery to a whole new level back in the day with that ‘feed my family’ line though.

Repo says:
As a Knick fan, this is the one player that i have to thank for giving us something to be proud about. Besides Michael Jordan, he is my second favorite player of all time. He had everything, always gave it all, there was never a moment of inconsistency. Always came to play. He had heart, passion, and skills that are unsurpassed.

sh!tfaced says:
Choked his coach, choked his bitch while he was banging her, fought his teammates, ran down 2 people, ran his yacht aground, was suspended for 68 games.
The man paved the way for players like Ron Artest and JR Smith.

Spree was the man on my Warriors back in the day. Who knows what would have happened if PJ would have known better.

Spree was filthy back in the day, but he did ruin it with the feed my family thing. And that shit about his dog sucked too because I have a pit and I can’t even get homeowners insurance on his ass. God dammit.

Spree in Golden State was just awesome … such a good player and exciting to watch.
Unfortunately he will be most remembered as one of the original trouble making head-cases.

Buffalo Brave says:
#1 got it right his prime years were wasted playing out of position in NY cause they HAD to service allan houston jock for some reason even though spreewell was better.
I just wish i could’ve seen what happened with his career if not for that whole incident with PJ punk ass. I will note that after YEARS of being froze out PJ fell flat on his face in OKC, a young team that could’ve used his championship pedigree with the spurs. Hmmmmmm….
Spree was a GREAT player though, probably truly the closest to jordan at that time period.
I also saw him give MJ the business on both ends of the court early in that video too lol!

Derik says:
I take Sam Cassell over Spree for the best 24th pick ever, but the r both nice, Sam Cassell is always wining though.

Jah says:
Spree was real. Started off a defensive stopper, showed offensive prowess and blossomed and had probably the 2nd-best post season of any NY Knick in the history of the team…

Heckler says:
spree was ill. hes still the first (and only?) player to make an allstar team and not even be on the damn ballot!
his years in nyc werent wasted. they made the playoffs each year. and spree played the sf slot good enough for ny. and some pg too when they went with the ‘big backcourt’.
that truly sad shit was when the pit attacked his daughter; she was only like 6yrs old.!! you know he was into dogfighting. alls he said was things like that happen. no remorse or sorry feeling.
and spree was a winner is what people forget. his teams won. dont forget in 2004 he teamed with sam cassell and kg and the wolves had the best record in the nba that year.

Spencers Mom says:
Great player! Too bad his head was’nt screwed on too tight. Someone asked why he hadn’t made a comeback by now. After checking the video I just visualized Spree running down the court with dozens of suit dummies chasing him waiving bills. I guess this was the only defence he could not avoid.

karizmatic says:
I used to love Sprewell. Too bad he eneded his career prematurely by turning down that contract. A good player though. Still one of my favorites.

let’s see….
Turn down a 3 year/27M contract and never get paid again…
Or play three years and get 9M a year.
Yeah, Option 1 was the right choice.
Spree, can I still buy some rims (at a playa discount)?
