The Face of Frustration

Kobe Bryant

By now, you should know that when NBA announcers keep saying, “Kobe is really frustrated,” it’s actually code for, “Kobe’s shot isn’t falling and he’s battling with the refs.” … That was the case during Lakers/Mavericks last night, as L.A. got smoked on its homecourt and Kobe (20 pts, 6-19 FG) struggled between breaking out his best whiny faces. Reebok Still Talkin’ Quote of the Day – 10.30

Reebok Still Talkin'

If you were 6-7, 277 pounds and had a 7-3 wing span, you would probably believe you had a chance to be drafted in the first round. If you were 6-7, 277 pounds, had a 7-3 wing span AND were the Big East Player of the Year, that averaged a double-double and brutalized the eventual second pick in the draft – you’d definitely be a first round pick….right? Not if your name is DeJuan Blair. Read More »

Don’t believe the hype: 6 hopefuls who won’t be All-Stars

Josh Smith

Every NBA season begins with a bloated numbers of players dreaming All-Star dreams. Over the summer and in the preseason, you hear guys with All-Star talent promising this will be the year they break through, or guys who are barely impact players vowing to make the leap to All-Star status. Or more often than not, it’s a coach or a teammate who runs the campaign for them. Either way, each October there’s 50 “potential” All-Stars, some of whom won’t even be mentioned in the All-Star discussion come January, and some who will fall just a bit short. Who’s on that list this year? Read More »

Jerry Sloan Has A Job Forever With The Jazz

Jerry Sloan

In a sports world where a coach can endure a couple of bad weeks and lose his job, Jerry Sloan has job security like Steve Jobs. Sometime in the next week or two, NBA.com is reporting that the Jazz will once again extend the legendary coach’s contract for at least one more season. This annual or bi-annual tradition between Sloan and the Jazz organization has been going for the past decade. Read More »

We Reminisce: Mateen Cleaves and the 1999-2000 Michigan State Spartans

Mateen Cleaves

Tom Izzo has built himself nothing short of a dynasty in his time at Michigan State. It’s no secret, but the Spartans are built top to bottom again this year. From reigning Big Ten POY, Kalin Lucas, to future NBA check collectors Delvon Roe and Durrell Summers, Sparty is looking good. Read More »

Buy Low, Sell High: Fantasy Week 1

Richard Jefferson

After the first few days of NBA action, it’s time to take a gander at players who might have already frustrated impatient fantasy owners enough to make them amenable to low-ball offers, and those that have performed especially well and will get you more than they deserve in return.

It’s a bit early to even discuss this, but there are very impatient owners out there and so long as they’re flustered or overly optimistic, there are opportunities for you to jump on. Read More »

Where Are They Now: Nick Van Exel

Nick Van Exel

“Soprano the rock, handle like Van Exel” – Jay-Z

There was a reason why Hova would name drop Nick Van Exel’s name in a verse. Nick the Quick was everything you wanted out of a small guard: a smooth south paw stroke, crafty dribble moves, great court vision and money in the clutch. And best of all, everything he did, he did it with style. Read More »

The Hottest Cheerleader on Every NBA Team

cheerleaders

The Bleacher Report comes through again today with their definitive ranking of the hottest cheerleader on every team in the NBA (a solid follow up to the Top NBA Dance Teams post from the other day).

We love the breakdown offered on their site: “After hours of thorough evaluation and research I have come up with the most accurate and in depth preview of the up coming NBA season. I evaluated every individual dancer/cheerleader in the League and I have selected the MVP, or in this case, MVC, for this season.”

League Pushes Deadline; Still Time For Rajon, Rudy & Tyrus

Rajon Rondo

Last week I was writing about the possible contract extensions for guys in the 2006 NBA Draft class, and how to-date only Andrea Bargnani, LaMarcus Aldridge and Brandon Roy had received them. Then the other day word broke that Thabo Sefolosha signed a four-year, around $14 million extension with the Thunder, leaving guys like Rajon Rondo, Rudy Gay and Tyrus Thomas waiting for an offer. Good news though: the league has pushed back the deadline from Saturday to Monday. Read More »
