Austin Daye Channels Tayshaun Prince In Block On D-Wade

In Smack this morning, we talked about Austin Daye catching D-Wade from behind on a breakaway sending Flash’s layup out of bounds. Drawing all sorts of comparisons to Tayshaun’s infamous swat, what would you say is the best come from behind block you’ve ever seen?

Jordan on Ron Mercer. No doubt.

  2. anjoe says:

Jason Maxiell’s block on KG was pretty nasty

  3. RonNation says:

    definitely not

  4. Justin says:

Sasha Pavlovic on Jason Kidd during the 2007 NBA Playoffs

  5. aaron says:

love the heat bench jumping out of the seats for the Wade dunk…that didn’t happen.

  6. Davros says:

David Robinson had one against (I think) Kenny Smith when he ran from half court and made up ground to make the block and that was against a guy nicknamed ‘the Jet’ who was maybe 15 yards ahead. I think Hakeem had one like that as well, can’t remember against who (maybe Kevin Johnston?)

  7. richard from cleveland says:

wow dude do look like tayshaun

  8. control says:

Replacement refs making an impact already. If the regular refs were on the job, there’s no way they’d let that go without a foul. According to the regular refs, WADE can’t do no wrong, he doesn’t foul people, and he don’t get blocked.

  9. YOUNGFED says:

Tayshaun on Reggie Miller in the finals when Detroit won it all hands down best play ever not just best block ever.

  10. sweetv0mit says:

good for him to hustle back on dj after airballing. thats how you make nba rosters

  11. isotope says:

hakeem on KJ. Dude had to run to hard to catch dude and still get the clean block.

  12. isotope says:

ha! good point about the airball. Didnt even notice that.

  13. Mavfive says:

Both of D-Rose’s last year were SWEEEET!

Miller getting rejected was part 1 of 2 of him getting humiliated

And Scalabrine getting blocked from behind in the playoffs by D-Rose while trying the 2-handed jam…I jumped out of my seat for that one!

  14. singharaj says:

Lebron on Jason Richardson. Just because of the 360 attempt.

  15. ab_40 says:

MJ on ron mercer for me that was THE highlight of his career with the wizards.

  16. jzsmoove says:

D Wade will have a monster year just because of that blocked dunk, he dont want to get punked by other Austin Daye dudes. He will also learn to watch his back, thanks Austin.

  17. liukz says:

the hakeem block was on strickland

  18. dagwaller says:

Jordan on Mercer, or Prince on Miller (partially because it was the playoffs and because it was on Miller).

Control, hahahaha GOOD POINT! The Heat are going to lose 10 more games this year just because Wade won’t be going to the line like he usually does.

  19. Davros says:

The block MJ had on Pat Ewing was far better than his one on Mercer. He caught Pat at the top of his shot and just sent it right back in his face….hard

  20. isotope says:

    Nah, Hakeem was on KJ

and it was even sweeter cuz it was payback for KJ’s dunk on Dream.

  21. KCL says:

I always thought Jordan Farmers block from behind against Deron Williams was pretty sick, didn’t think he had it in him.

  22. bill hill says:

Can’t think of one, but Josh Smith has some pretty ridiculous ones.

  23. jryu says:

if you didn’t say anything, almost everyone would think that really is tayshaun. it’s crazy how much they resemble each other in that uniform

  24. Havana says:

Shannon Brown on Mario West is the sickest

  25. Dagomar says:

That was an insane block, damn!

  26. Davros says:

what about the LaPhonso Ellis block where he palmed the ball – that was one of the best

  27. Davros says:

Hey Dime, any chance of some love for D Rob? Been looking at some old stuff online and for a big guy he was athletic, maybe more so than Dwight. Dwight might be able to jump higher, maybe. No way he matches foot speed and overall athleticism

  28. Jake says:

The three from last year that are most notable to me are Lebron blocking Jason Richardson from behind when J-Rich tried a 360 dunk.

The second was Lebron blocking Baron Davis.

The third was Chris Anderson’s block on Lamar Odom in the Western Conference Finals.

Those are the 3 notables from last season that I can remember. (remember being the key word.) There have been so many fantastic blocks over the years its tough to pick one as the best ever. There were alot of great blocks just last season. Those are some notables. (note – I’m not showing Lebron favoritism, he just had some outstanding blocks last season since he added that part to his game.)

  29. Jake says:

This was also another notable, Kobe blocking Rasaul Butler.

  30. Tim says:

yeah its hard to not like tay’s block on Reggie…I mean he came from half court and got it a half second before it would of been goaltending…EPIC

  31. arisloco says:

    Alonzo Mourning!

  32. abpin says:

the kobe block on butler was pretty good. too bad he traveled right after & the refs didn’t call it.
