With the emergence of Danilo Gallinari, it looks like the New York Knicks’ highest paid player, Larry Hughes, will be odd man out in coach Mike D’Antoni’s rotation. Situation sound familiar? Last year, the team’s highest paid player and the former face of the franchise, Stephon Marbury, was basically blackballed by D’Antoni at this exact point in the preseason. While Steph bit his tongue at first, it wasn’t long until things started to spiral out of control and the Knicks’ season started to play out like an episode of the Hills. Read More »

Mars Blackmon was right: “It’s gotta be the shoes.” And for University of Central Florida freshman Marcus Jordan, wearing his father’s kicks could cost his school $3 million. With an exclusive $3 million, six-year contract with adidas – that requires all coaches and athletes to use the company’s shoes, apparel and game equipment – the other MJ is being forced to trade in the Jumpman for the three stripes. Light schedule of only four NBA preseason games on a day where the biggest (rumored) news was that the replacement refs probably won’t make it to the regular season due to the League being close to an agreement with the union guys. We hit on this a little bit yesterday, but it’s funny how so many media and fans are bashing the replacements as if they’ve been so much worse than the regulars. We even heard one TV talking head praise the return of the “real” refs, because the ones they’ve had in the preseason are obviously fake refs. How long will it take for NBA players to start complaining about every call again and for the rest of us to remember we thought the “real” refs stunk at their jobs, too? About 24 minutes into the first game? … Read More »

According to ESPN’s Chad Ford, LaMarcus Aldridge verbally agreed to a five-year, $65 million contract extension today. Fans in the Rose City are now assured they will have both Aldridge and Brandon Roy for the next five years. In August, Roy signed a five-year, $80 million extension.

With the season still a week away, two of Houston’s hottest stars found time this past weekend to get down. Rockin’ only the freshest gear, Trevor Ariza and Aaron Brooks were in the house along with hip-hop legend Bun B as House of Hoops opened not one, but two new locations in H-Town. Crazy considering so many cities would love to have one. Read More »

The Heineken Red Star Soul Tour passed through New York City last weekend. Dime was able to hit up the show, which was invitation only and closed off to the public. The Red Star Soul event was held right in the heart of midtown Manhattan at Gotham Hall. With its pillars and marble detailing, the venue is usually reserved for big corporate functions, parties and wedding, but on this Saturday night it hosted a hip-hop concert. Read More »

A couple of weeks ago, the Nuggets and Pacers flew halfway across the globe to play a pair of exhibition games in the Far East. The first game took in Taipei, Taiwan, and the second one went down in Beijing, China. The headliner for the two teams was undoubtedly Carmelo Anthony. On top of playing the two games, Carmelo was crazy busy promoting his new Jordan Melo M6 sneaker to his Asian fan base. Since we weren’t there to tell you about it, we had Melo pen his Asia experience… Read More »
