Every day, more signs are popping up to tell us we’re getting closer and closer to the actual NBA season. Over the last week or so, we’ve watched guys going through the motions in practice (the “Real Training Camp” cameras never lie); Shaq throwing his old teams under the bus to hype up his new team; a valuable Kings player getting hurt; Vince Carter‘s critics blasting him for shooting (and missing) too many jumpers; Gerald Wallace dunking on cats; some decent preseason games; a couple of fights and suspensions; and further proof that the Warriors are officially the Oakland Raiders of the NBA. Last night was another milestone, with the first nationally televised game of the year: Suns/Warriors on TNT. Read More »
Friday was supposed to be the glorious return of “Showtime” for one night only as the Lakers returned to The Forum, but the Warriors turned it into a Run-TMC flashback instead. Coming off an ankle injury he suffered in the preseason opener, Monta Ellis dropped 24 points and eight assists in the GS 20-piecing, while Kelenna Azubuike scored 18 and Anthony Randolph added 18 points and eight boards. (OK, so maybe it was more like Hardaway, Spree and Billy Owens.) … You think Stephen Jackson might be trying to get himself traded? He picked up five fouls and a technical in NINE minutes. When I was 12, I got the video NBA Superstars 2 as part of my Sports Illustarted subscription. It was a great highlight tape and I kept it until my VCR gave out. This Chris Mullin/Tim Hardaway mix was one of my favorite music videos on the tape. Aside from this tight Wrecks N Effects track in the background, it’s got some great footage of Hardaway crossing people up and Mullin actually dunking.
Now that I’m a little older and less athletic, I’ve patterned my playground game after Bruce Bowen. But back in the day, I was all about Muggsy Bogues. You can’t name one current PG in the NBA who is more of an effective pest on defense.
Marcus Landry wasn’t drafted, nor was he invited to any training camp. But that’s not stopping the former University of Wisconsin forward from playing in the NBA. Marcus, whose brother Carl plays for the Rockets, is on his hustle like a hungry rapper showing up uninvited to record lables’ offices. He (or Carl) reportedly paid for his own plane and hotel fares to NYC to try out for the Knicks. Read More »
Last year we debuted the “Highs and Lows” system — previewing the NBA season by predicting the respective ceiling and basement for each team. Same theme, different season…

Greetings fellow fantasy fiends. My name is Jason Hahn and I’ll be your new Fantasy Doctor here on Dimemag.com.
On top of being a huge fan of the NBA, I’m also a colossal enthusiast of fantasy basketball who has seen some success in recent years. I’ve won three league championships since 2005 and have finished outside of the top three only once (fifth place in a 20-team league during the 2008-09 season). I hope I’ll be able to share some helpful insights with you all this season and eagerly look forward to learning from you guys as well.
So, without further ado, I thought it would be fitting for me to discuss the five most intriguing players with new teams this season. Read More »
Perhaps it’s just me, but I don’t think we’ve fully discussed Dirk Nowitzki’s hair situation. On Wednesday, we were saying that Dirk must be in a worst-hair contest with Andrei Kirilenko sporting his Brorn Borg/Thor look, while AK-47 ditched the spiked ‘do and went with some weird Zack Morris-type thing. From who you’ve seen, who do you think has the worst hair in the League this season?
I’ve always been a fan of old stadiums and arenas. To me, nothing beats seeing a game at the Garden or sitting in the sun watching the Cubs at Wrigley Field. I think sports venues with history and tradition have more character and makes attending games more meaningful. Nowadays, it’s all about luxury boxes, waterslides in the outfield and Hard Rock Cafe’s inside the arenas. I know it’s business, but I’m kind of indifferent to new arenas. Read More »
