Personally many of us in the office didn’t think that Nike could top the Zoom Kobe IV, but then we saw this: the Nike Zoom Kobe V. Following up on the huge success last year, the Zoom Kobe V seems like the logical place that the sneaker could evolve. Check after the jump for some more pics and colorways. Read More »
One person most people didn’t expected to be donning a Knicks uniform this season is David Lee. The 6-10 rebounding specialist was supposed to be a hot commodity in this summer’s free agent market. But due to the recession, he was not able to secure the long-term, big money deal he was seeking. Right on the eve of training camp, Lee re-upped with the Knicks and is ready to prove he can help make a team a winner. We caught up with David at the EA Sports NBA Live 10 release party at the NBA Store in Manhattan. Read More »
Every year, I can’t wait to read the results of NBA.com’s annual GM Survey to get an insider look into what the people running the League are thinking. And with GMs not permitted to vote for their own team or personnel, you know they have to be objective in their responses. So after reading through the 60 questions that were asked, it seemed LeBron was going to take a clean sweep: MVP, most athletic and best finisher to name a few. LBJ even got 78.6% of the vote when asked, “If you were starting a franchise today and could sign any player in the NBA, who would it be?” But there was one question that kind of surprised me, with the reigning MVP not even receiving one vote: Read More »
A good sign that things are getting busier and crazier around here: A couple years ago, if the first televised NBA preseason game was on during the workday, you would’ve found at least 2-3 members of the Dime crew parked on the office couch in front of the TV, workload be damned. This year, the best we could do was catch some of Jazz/Bulls (from London) on a side-glance … No Derrick Rose for this one, as he reportedly hurt his ankle the day before in practice. (Funny how that coincided with his 21st birthday on Sunday. Not that we’re accusing anybody of anything.) Read More »
While everyone talks about Kenny Anderson, Stephon Marbury and Mark Price when they discuss Georgia Tech point guards, they shouldn’t leave out Travis Best. The McDonald’s All-American nicknamed “The Springfield Rifle” was a high school phenom and beast at G-Tech, finishing as one of only two ACC players to score over 2,000 points and tally over 600 assists in a career. While his success never quite translated to the next level, Best found his niche as one of the best backup point guards in the League. Still playing overseas, I’d take him as my backup PG any day.
If you are reading this, you are the first to see the home and away colorways of Brandon Jennings‘ latest shoe that he will be wearing to kick off the season for the Bucks. Jennings will be rocking this, the Under Armour BB Proto 3 “Young Buck” version, up until the midway point of the season. Check after the jump for some more pics. Read More »
The Lakers and the Spurs are the heavy favorites to lock down the top spots in the Western Conference. Even though the third spot is up for grabs, I think the most likely candidates will be either Portland or Denver. The Nuggets last year gave the Lakers a run for their money in the Western Conference Finals, but the Blazers continually get better every season. Both teams had 54-28 records last season. The question is: Which of these two teams will have a better record after 82 games? Read More »
Every NBA team has a go-to guy, and there’s really only room for one. And it’s not strictly who takes the last-second shot. It’s the guy who regularly gets the ball when things are getting tense in the fourth; the guy expected to calm things down when teammates are getting sloppy; the guy called upon to snuff out an opponent’s rally, or spark a rally of his own; the guy who’s not just supposed to make shots, but make the right decisions. Bottom line: Who do you want the offense to run through when everything is on the line? From #30 to #1 (one per team), these are the League’s best go-to guys…Read More »
