The Gangs of NBA Fantasyland

Caron Butler

As we anticipate the commencement of the brand spanking new 2009-10 NBA season, let’s take a look at a handful of fantasy “gangs.” To be more specific, let’s give fun names to certain groups of players who have similar attributes — for fantasy purposes, of course. Hopefully, this post will do two things: offer you some helpful glimpses into what you should expect from these players heading into the regular season, and present you with an amusing read to help you rediscover your smile (especially if you drafted Blake Griffin) and regular breathing patterns amid all the tense eagerness for tonight. Friends Forever: My Favorite NBA Bromances

The first bromance moment caught on national television was when Zeke and Magic met on court before Game 6 of the 1988 Finals and exchanged a kiss showing their deep friendship. In memory of that relationship, which effectively ended last week, I have compiled a list of bromances from the NBA. For those of you unfamiliar with the term the definition is as follows. Bromance (n.) is a close but non-sexual relationship between two men; see also: Man-Crush; related words: Pause. Read More »

The Celtics Won’t Extend Rajon Rondo…For Now

Rajon Rondo (photo. Christian Kozowyck)

Add one more big name to the list of free agents for the summer of 2010. Rajon Rondo will not sign an extension with the Celtics before the October 31st deadline. Over the offseason, three members of the draft class of ’06 (Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, Andrea Bargnani) signed long-term, big money extensions with their teams. For months, Rondo and management have been going back and forth on trying to agree on a figure. Rondo’s agent Bill Duffy announced last night that the two sides will resume contract talks at the end of the season. Read More »

Top 5 Second Units In The NBA

Rasheed Wallace

Some of the benches on NBA squads are just nasty. It used to be teams would go just seven or eight deep in their rotation. Now some of these teams have benches so stacked that they could probably handle Milwaukee or Sacramento’s starting fives. I ranked my top five second units in the league. Keep in mind, starting lineups haven’t been set in stone and some of these guys might start come opening night (tonight for some). Read More »

Nike Huarache 09 – N7 Special Edition

photo3

Last Thursday, a few of us were lucky enough to be on hand at the Los Angeles Nike House of Hoops by Foot Locker for the unveiling of the Nike Huarache 09 – N7 Special Edition shoe.

The concept for the N7 line is very cool; all profits from the sale of N7 products go to support sports in Native American communities. Read More »

Pass The Mic: Two Sophomores Ready to Lead

Ed Davis

When we posted about our intern search, we heard from all sorts of people. But one person that stood out from the pack was Lucas Shapiro. An avid Dime reader and basketball fanatic who even has his own NBA blog, while Lucas would love to intern, he is only 16 years old and lives in Boston. Last week the young buck put the rest of the world on to Virginia’s Sylven Landesberg. Back by popular demand, here are two sophomores ready to lead. Read More »

Charles Barkley Gives Up On Golf

While he was on the Late Show with David Letterman last night, Charles Barkley was asked if he was pumped to get back to work. “Not really,” said Barkley. “If I could just stay on vacation all the time I would.” Can’t wait for NBA on TNT tonight!
