Derrick Rose Smashes One Down On Greg Oden’s Face
Derrick Rose answered any questions about whether his ankle was still bothering him. At the start of the third quarter of last night’s game between the Blazers and Bulls, 6-3 Derrick Rose went baseline and dunked it hard on 7-1 Greg Oden. You can bet Greg stayed away from any TVs after the game.

Pretty weak dunk if you ask me. Also, I completely disagree that Oden ’stayed away from the tv.’ He had one of his best games ever as a pro, beasted Noah all night and finished one point shy of his career high in points. Oden and Aldridge manhandled the Bulls front line. Watch the whole game next time, or at least watch the entire highlight real so that you can make accurate comments.

The guy screamning? Yeah thats Noah in the background lol!
This is what sets Rose apart from basically every other PG in the league; size, strength and hops. Its even a two footed takeoff! Can any other PG do this? Cant think of anyone…
But of any young star in the NBA doesnt Rose have the least amount of personality? Think he can ever be a true leader? Im having a hard time seeing Rose giving someone “The Stare” as MJ could. Can you win a chip with Rose as your best player?

I was more impressed with the body control by Rose in how he came from one side and then went around Oden’s arms so he couldn’t block it.

Meanwhile, Oden had 24 and 12 and the Blazers won by 24. But you guys are right, Oden probably stayed up all night thinking about this dunk. (sigh)
Remember guys, there’s more to life — and to this game — than “dunking on someone.”

It’s his 2nd season in the NBA. He killed in his first ever playoff series. He’s been clutch from his first pre-season game of his rookie year and on.
I’m not saying chicago is on the way to the East finals, but you have no Reason to say some bullshit like “can you win a chip with Rose as the best player?”. Rose has done everything you want your best player to do.
Oh yeah, and the dunk is sic.

Im not doubting Rose’s abilities on the court, they speak for themselves and i agree that at this point, in his 2nd year, he has done everything you could expect (putting up consistent numbers and winning games for the Bulls) and then some.
Im just doubting that he has the extra something something which can make his teammates work harder, more confident. Thats not found in his basketball skills. Its in the person and Rose’s demeanor isnt making me think that he has “it”. Sorry.

Hey, give Oden some credit. Derrick Rose is one of the most athletic players in the league. At least Oden went up for the block although he failed pretty damn bad. 95% of the players would have just watched or ducked to avoid getting posterized. If Oden had knees, he would have swatted that shit.
When it’s all said and done, Oden will have more chips than Rose.

LMAO!!!!! based on what?
@soopa,
You may be right about his lack of personality, but not everyone has to be a charles barkley, or Magic Johnson.
Rose has Killer instinct. He knew he was in for a battle with Rondo, so he went at his head in the first game to let him know it wasn’t going to be a cakewalk.
Rose also grew up in one of the most drug infested/gang infested hoods in Chicago. He made it out and became a pro ball player. His toughness should never be questioned.
Rose also has a little killer in him if you pay close attention. When someone scores on him, or makes a play on him, he takes it personal and comes back at them the very next play down. He may not scream and holla, but he has his moments. Lets just say Derrick Rose is the Tim Duncan of Point guards when it comes to personalities.

Really? based on what? Do I really have to type it out for you? Your ignorance is bliss. Just look at the Blazer’s and the Bull’s current teams, and look at all the previous Champions. When was the last time a team won the chip with their PG as their franchise player? Isaiah Thomas. And I promise you Derrick Rose is not Isaiah Thomas nor will he ever will be.
To even go further, other than the Jordan led Bulls, every team that won the Chip in last 30 years had either a dominating Center or a dominant, defensive big man. (TD, Shaq, KG, Pau Gasol, Hakeem, Kareem, Robert Parish.)
Even Isaiah’s Pistons had Dennis Rodman and Bill Lainbeer. You should know damn well how good Rodman is if you are from the Chi-town. Last time I checked, the Bulls had Noah, Aaron Gray, Taj Gibson, and Brad Miller at the front court and all of them combined don’t even equal to a toenail of Dennis Rodman.
LMAO!!! Based on WHAT??!!!

So you have the full grasp of a guys career in the 100 regular season games he’s played. Well Mr. Swami can you give me the powerball numbers so I can stop working for a living. Greg Oden has had 3 good games in his career and 2 of them were against the Bulls. As much as it pains me to say a lot of big guys have had monster games against the Bulls front line. They’re not that good. How is it different from the game Bynum had last week. This is just a sign that the bar has been lowered for Oden. He’s a former #1 pick that came in with as much fanfare as Ewing. And now we all celebrate because he scored 24. Wow! And that wins more championship comparison is a moot point right now considering Oden is not nearly the best player on his team. He’s not leading anyone to a title. Jack Haley has more titles than Karl Malone. If you’re not the GUY on a squad then why even make that means very little.

Portland is a good team, and they are better than the Bulls right now. But you are saying they will win more chips, while they really don’t have a chance this year, next year, or until Kobe and Duncan retire. Those guys have Chips.

When the fuck did I ever say Oden was a franchise player? When did I ever say Oden was going to lead them to a championship. For anything, it’s Brandon Roy who’s going to lead them. BUT for Blazers to win, the key player is Oden and everyone knows it. Everyone knows that Oden is not going to avg 30 and 15. Shit, the way the league is played these days, no Center will ever put stats the way Shaq, Ewing, Olajuwon, Mourning, and Robinson. They need Oden to be a force in D and be able to contribute on O when needed. Oden needs to do what KG did with the Celtics.
If you talk strictly on stats, all-stars, and popularity, yea I would give it to Rose hands down. But even Rose is playing like shit this year. You foos keep talking about how well he performed against the KG-less Celtics on the playoffs. Freaking Rondo avged a triple-double against him. And last meeting on the season with 1-kneed KG, the Celtics absolutely murdered the Bulls.
“Jack Haley has more titles than Karl Malone. If you’re not the GUY on a squad then why even make that means very little.”
That enough tells you what a fuckiing moron you are. You are comparing some scrub to arguably top 3 best PF that ever played. And if you are talking about the GUY, so i guess Kobe was nothing when the Lakers won with Shaq. Clyde was shit too. So was Pippen and every other HOFers that were not the GUY.

kevin k says:
@chicagorrila
you are a funny kid with that horrible comparison.
Blazers have a solid nucleus that can compete with the best NOW and will be one of the best teams for next decade or so if their core players stay intact and they stay healthy. Meanwhile, Bulls will struggle to even make the playoffs in a shitty Eastern Conference other than the top 3 teams. Unless they get someone like Wade, Bosh, or Amare, the Bulls will stay mediocre no matter how good Rose becomes.
When did I ever say they will win this year or next. Quit putting shit in my mouth with your retarded assumptions. Your short-sightedness is truly amazing.

Diego says:
@ keven k: One thing, Rodman was not all that. Come on. Guy was a rebounding machine–in part because that was his role on team, like David Lee with Knicks. It’s his role. Rodman also played tough D. He had no offense, which of course left him free just to crash boards.
And so far Noah (and also fellow Gator Horford, for that matter) has had a better NBA career than Oden, and Noah is improving as much (if not more) than Oden. (And injuries count. Otherwise, Sprite drinking guys like Grant Hill and Penny would be sure 1st vote Hall of Famers.)
Although I agree that usually point can’t be your best guy to win chip–although Chauncy (arguably Detroit’s best), Magic (probably Laker’s best–Kareem was heading over-the-hill) and Wade (who basically dominates ball like point) also are exceptions.

Go fuck yourself. And besides you’re killing your own point. Comparing Greg Oden to Pippen or Kobe is no different than comparing Haley to Malone…basically Oden hasn’t done anything in his career worthy of recognition. He is a scrub. Not saying it will be that way forever but as of right now he is the 5-6th best player on his own team. He’s a damn foul machine that has spent the majority of his career playing behind the legend Joel Pryzbilla. Regardless he got dunked on. Get over it.
