@chicagrilla, first of all if you were next to me, you would get you ass beat even thinking you know me to play like dat bitch, I’m from the D and I dont like chi town anyway. Second of all learn your numbers punk, I was number 19. Thirdly, what I am saying is Mike was good for his era but he is not the greatest. That is an argument that cant be won, by your assessment Kobe is the greatest right now because the players say he is includeing your beloved Dwade and LBJ. But that does nto matter, everyone has their idea of what makes the greatest player, like The logo, he was great for his time, the best, but how much did he win? Not really alot but he was always in the running. but he became the logo because during his time he saved the league and what I say is Bird and magic had more impact tothe league than MJ. MJ had impact in commercializing the league but I cant really say thats a good thing because the end result of that is less men playing and more brats playing.

Give the man what he is due. Like I said Jerry West gets the NBA logo so give the number 23 to MJ. Who cares if MJ was and still is a asshole, the man earned the right to be who he wants to be. Everyone thinks that these players need to live up to what society wants them to be, I say forget that and just be you. Yeah I would like MJ to give back to miniority communities a bit more, but shit I don’t want him to give his entire income just to satisfy me or others who grew up in a inequality environment, I would rather go out there and get mine by myself.

Someone should start a petition to get MJ’s number retired so other cats won’t be allowed to use it in the NBA. What if some benchwarmer came into the league and donned number 23, that would be sad to see because all of us grew up watching GOAT do his thang.

There are several flawed arguements in the above comments. 1 was that Russel only won so many champs cause of being under the best coach of all time. Ummm, is Phil not a great coach, and also Russel won several chips as a player/coach. Pretty impressive. That’s why the championship trophy is named after him, he has the most. I don’t think you can retire Jordans number just cause he’s the most exciting/popular player ever. He’s an a-hole, and anly played for the league, and has contributed nothing but negativity since his bulls days. I say they should pick something more reasonable to honor him with, as if his own hall in the HOF isn’t enough, or the millions he’s made. I thinkthe most appropriate recognition of him would be naming the MVP, or better yet, the finals MVP trophy after him.

agree with ldawg….Jackie Robinson wasn’t retired for being a great player but for breaking the color barrier. That is so much bigger than being the best athlete ever in your sport. Not that is not important, but I think the league has it right with leaving it up to the teams.

I think its a good move by Lebron. Jordan is the greatest player to ever play and right now Lebron is that player so he wants to make a tribute to who inspired him. Some poster asked who cares about Jordan? A lot of people he still has the most successful show line even though he hasn’t played in 5 years and his brand is one of Nike’s biggest sellers. No one capture the amagination of the nation like Jordan. He made the NBA a lot of money and they should retire his jersey because of what he did for the league.

I agree with Lebron, I think the league should retire number 23 because their should only be one player worthy of wearing that number and that player is Mike Jordan. If the league can give the logo image to Jerry West, they can atleast retire number 23.
